Wat Pho - Thai Massage & the Temple of the Reclining Buddha
Wat Pho is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand. It is the highest grade of first class royal temples in Thailand. Thai massage is still taught and practiced at the temple and although we didn’t have time during our visit to partake.
It's been expanded and consistently renovated since the 1700s and gained importance by King Rama I. The architecture was fascinating and understanding the history and culture made it a special place to visit.
Injured German in Thai hospital, Italian comments
(12 Aug 2016) Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul on Friday visited a German teenager and an Italian man who were amongst those injured in Thursday's string of bomb attacks in Thailand.
The 17-year-old German, who said she was in the country as part of a group working with kids, suffered injuries to her leg.
51-year-old Andrea Tazzioli was fetching his own birthday cake an hour before midnight, looking forward to celebrating with friends in this balmy beach resort town, a world away from his stressful military work in Afghanistan, when the bomb went off.
Tazzioli said he was lucky to be alive as he had been standing just a metre away from the street vendor who was killed in the Thursday night blast that also wounded 20 other people.
Overnight and into Friday, bombs also went off on Phuket's Loma Beach in southern Thailand and the southern provinces of Trang, Surat Thani and Phang Nga.
One person was killed in the Trang blast, which occurred on Thursday, and another was killed in the Surat Thani attack on Friday morning.
Police said it was too soon to say who was behind the attacks, but added that they have ruled out international terrorism or a long-running insurgency in the country's Islamic south.

One of the great things about living in Thailand is the Thai food. The Thai cuisine is some of the best in the world. Thai pizza isn't some of the best in the world though. And although I feel a Thai fusion of western food and Thai inspiration sometimes creates some magical blends of flavors, what I tried today wasn't one of those times!

So as a Farang (foreigner) I am an aberration when it comes to loving the pungent Thai durian. When it comes to combining Thailand's famed fruit, durian, with other flavors sometimes in my opinion, it just doesn't work. Today was one of those times. And views to Doy Suthep Mountain. This room is mostly open to the elements. There is a teak tile roof which although around 50 years old protects in rainy season. 95% of the building is recycled teak. The little villa is fun and quirky. You do need to have a bit of a sense of adventure to stay in this particular room at BaanBooLOo. Although there are nice luxury touches Baan Khao successfully adheres to its Thai farmer charm and chilled living style. It has a very romantic and homey feel at the same time and is ideal for afternoon napping in the summer heat or for having an at home Thai massage under the stilts. Evenings are best spent watching the glorious sunsets over Doy Suthep Mountain. The bathroom is boldy open yet still private enough. It's a kind of rustic paradice just a stone's throw from Wat Pra Singh and in an unbelievably central city location with all the charm and peace of a country village.

If the FBI want to get involved, we will do our best to cooperate, considering that they make a request through the right channel. Also, the request has to comply with the international treaty and to be approved by the Office of Attorney General. There is nothing we need to hide. This case is not difficult, not complicated. This is a very straightforward and easy case.

STORYLINE
THAI POLICE SAY FBI CAN OBSERVE CARRADINE PROBE
Thai police said Monday (08JUN09) that they would welcome the FBI's assistance in investigating the death of American actor David Carradine, but only as observers in the high-profile case.
Carradine's naked body was discovered last Thursday morning in his luxury suite at Bangkok's Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel.
Police initially suspected his death was a suicide, but have since said it may have been accidental suffocation or heart failure after revealing he was found with a rope tied around his wrist, neck and genitals.
The circumstances suggested he might have died as a result of a dangerous sex game, Pornthip Rojanasunand, a prominent Thai forensic pathologist, said last week.
With the uncertainty and conflicting information surrounding the death, Carradine's family in the U.S. went to the FBI last Friday asking for its help investigating the case.
If the FBI wants to get involved, we will do our best to cooperate, Thai police Maj. Gen. Amnuay Nimmano told reporters, adding that it would have to be in an observer role as mandated by Thai law. We have nothing to hide.
Sirisak Tiyapan, director-general for International Affairs of Thailand's Attorney General's Office, which would handle any cooperation with U.S. law enforcement agencies, said his agency had not yet received a request from the FBI to assist in the Carradine case.
U.S. Embassy Spokesman Michael Turner said he couldn't comment on the investigation but did acknowledge that FBI agents attached to the embassy were talking informally about the case with their Thai police counterparts.
FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said earlier that the agency generally only gets involved in death investigations overseas if a crime is suspected.
After numerous leaks about the crime scene and cause of death, Maj. Gen. Amnuay at Monday's press conference sought to quash further speculation.
He refused to comment on the condition Carradine's body was found in or the reports that he died from the dangerous form of sex play known as auto-erotic asphyxiation.
The previous conclusions on the cause of death were made by people who know nothing about the case, Amnuay told reporters, adding that he had to protect the privacy of Carradine's family.
The actor's family has said they hoped his body would arrive in Los Angeles by Monday, said their attorney, Mark Geragos, but he did not give specifics.
The family will also seek an independent autopsy by famed forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden to determine whether another person could have been involved in causing Carradine's death, Geragos said.
Results of an autopsy performed Friday in Bangkok were not expected for at least three weeks.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

5 of Thailand's Beautiful Temples
5 of Thailand's Beautiful Temples
Wat Pha Sorn Kaew
About five hours north of Bangkok is Wat Pha Sorn Kaew, or the ‘Temple on a high glass cliff’. This temple is typically not part of the shoestring itinerary many travelers follow because of its obscure location. If you have the time, however, this is one of the most striking temples in Thailand. Construction began in 2004 but it was only recently opened and still sparkles like new, with millions of colorful mosaic tiles decorating the main pagoda and surrounding buildings. The temple overlooks the surrounding mountainous area, which makes for one incredible backdrop. The five white Buddha statues sit in stark contrast against the colorful surrounding buildings.
Wat Phra Sri Sanphet
One must-do day trip from Bangkok is Ayutthaya. The city was named a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1991, and is home to some of Thailand’s most spectacular temples. One of these temples is the stellar Wat Phra Sri Sanphet. This monastery is said to be one of the most important temples in Ayutthaya, and it’s located within the royal palace grounds. One of it’s most striking and well known features are the large, bell-shaped pagodas that sit at the heart of the ruins on a rectangular platform. Small ruins surround these three pagodas, which were believed to have been the base of royal houses during the Ayutthaya period.
Wat Pho
Wat Pho, or the ‘Temple of the reclining Buddha’, is the largest and oldest temple in the City of Angels. Wat Pho is most famously known for the reclining Buddha it houses in the compound’s main sanctuary, which sits at 46 meters long and 15 meters high. After being wonderstruck by its enormous Buddha, explore the grounds of Wat Pho in its entirety to see the stupas, all towering high and glistening with color. A traditional Thai massage school calls the grounds of this temple home, so visitors can relax and de-stress after a long day exploring Wat Pho and the surrounding area.
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is extremely popular and for good reason. You’ll find it in the north of Thailand, just outside the main gates of Chiang Mai. This temple attracts packs of visitors every day, so we suggest visiting early to beat some of the crowds. Visiting this temple takes some gumption, as you first have to scale a spiraling, winding road then tackle a fleet of stairs before finally arriving at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.
Wat Rong Khun
Wat Rong Khun, or the ‘White Temple,’ is somewhat of a trek to reach in comparison to the other temples on our list. That being said, this spectacular, dazzling white temple surely deserves every ounce of effort taken to reach it. The temple sits outside the northern city of Chiang Rai, starkly contrasting against surrounding green foliage with its dazzling white exterior. The white plaster signifies the purity of the Buddha, while the glass that covers these walls represent Buddha’s wisdom. The temple is still undergoing additional construction which was delayed after an earthquake hit Chiang Rai in 2014, and the temple was in need of structural repairs. Admission into the temple is free.
