The tour begins on Avenue des Champs-Élysées, then travels along an underground tunnel that brings us up to the Arc de Triomphe, which stands on a roundabout at the western end of the Champs-Élysées at the centre of Place Charles de Gaulle (formerly named Place de l’Étoile), the étoile or ‘star’ of the juncture formed by its twelve radiating avenues.
Sights seen along the tour include the stunning Arc de Triomphe, with its pillars and sculptural elements, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and visited by many tourists.
Footage recorded August 2017.

Arc de Triomphe - Paris, France | Place Charles de Gaulle Etoile
Arc de Triomphe - Paris, France. The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile is one of the most famous monuments in Paris. It stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle (originally named Place de l'Étoile), at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. It should not be confused with a smaller arch, the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, which stands west of the Louvre. The Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.
The Arc de Triomphe is the linchpin of the Axe historique (historic axis) – a sequence of monuments and grand thoroughfares on a route which runs from the courtyard of the Louvre to the Grande Arche de la Défense. The monument was designed by Jean Chalgrin in 1806 and its iconographic program pits heroically nude French youths against bearded Germanic warriors in chain mail. It set the tone for public monuments with triumphant patriotic messages.
The monument stands 50 metres (164 ft) in height, 45 m (148 ft) wide and 22 m (72 ft) deep. The large vault is 29.19 m (95.8 ft) high and 14.62 m (48.0 ft) wide. The small vault is 18.68 m (61.3 ft) high and 8.44 m (27.7 ft) wide. Its design was inspired by the Roman Arch of Titus. The Arc de Triomphe is built on such a large scale that, three weeks after the Paris victory parade in 1919 (marking the end of hostilities in World War I), Charles Godefroy flew his Nieuport biplane through it, with the event captured on newsreel.

Arc de Triomphe – A unique viewpoint. From the top of the panoramic terrace, your eyes sweep over the whole of Paris.
Standing at the western end of the world’s most beautiful avenue Champs-Élysées, at the center of Place Charles de Gaulle, formerly named Place de l’Étoile — the étoile or “star” of the juncture formed by its twelve radiating avenues.
The construction of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris was ordered in 1806 by Napoleon I, the French Emperor, to honour the victories of his Grande Armée.
The Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces.
Following its construction, the Arc de Triomphe became the rallying point of French troops parading after successful military campaigns and for the annual Bastille Day Military Parade.
A ceremony is held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier every 11 November on the anniversary of the armistice signed by the Entente Powers and Germany in 1918.
The flame of remembrance is rekindled every evening, the flame is lit on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the Great War.

Arc de Triomphe by drone [4K]
The Arc de Triomphe Paris, the most monumental of all triumphal arches, was built between 1806 and 1836. Even though there were many modifications from the original plans, reflecting political changes and power struggles, the Arch still retains the essence of the original concept which was a powerful, unified ensemble.
The construction of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris was ordered in 1806 by Napoleon, the French Emperor. Napoleon wanted to honor the Grande Armee, the name of the French army at that time. ... After his Austerlitz victory in 1805, Napoleon said to his soldiers : You will return home through archs of triumph.

Elevator in the Arc de Triomphe - Places to Visit in Paris, France
On a recent trip to Paris, we did an Arc de Triopmhe visit to see climb the arc de triomphe and see the view from the top over the whole of the surrounding area.
In this video you will see:
- Views of the Arc de Triomf exterior
- The underground subway / tunnel walkway beneath the Arc Triomphe where you queue up / line up to buy tickets - This could give an idea of queue size (incidentally the ticket price / cost - or as they say in French, the prix / tarif, to go up was 12 euros when we were there in November 2017)
- A tip of how to avoid lining up & queuing by purchasing arc du triomphe tickets online.
- Close-up details of the Arc du Triomphe
- Passing through security in the Arc after entry past the line
- The stairs entrance
- The little-known elevator lift in the Arc de Triomphe: what it looks like, and how far up it takes you (you still need to walk up a small number of stairs even if you take the elevator up)
- The viewing deck at the top of the Arc de Triomphe - what it looks like up there
- view from arc de triomphe on a blue sky sunny November day, including seeing the views across Paris in all directions; north, south, east and west, looking down the Champs Elysees towards Place de la Concorde, seeing the Eiffel tower, Montmartre, Sacre Coeur Basilica and more.
- Going back down via lift / elevator.
