BEST Movie Theater Ever? Alamo Drafthouse Los Angeles Tour
We take a tour of the new Alamo Drafthouse Los Angeles location — is it the best movie theater in LA?
We take a look at Video Vortex, the company’s reimagined video store, bar and event space concept that allows free movie rentals of more than 40,000 blu-Ray and DVD movies, a lot of which are no longer in print or available on streaming. The space also has a cool retail component, a collection of awesome pop culture merchandise including collectibles, vinyls and screen-printed posters from Mondo. The event space is setup for regular tabletop gatherings (with a library of free to play board games) and trivia contests. The bar has over 45 beers on tap.
The hallways of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema are lined with oversized vintage movie posters that are just breathtaking to see in person.
The twelve theaters themselves are all equipped with Laser projectors (one cinema has a 35mm projector) and leather recliners — basically every screen is equivalent to an AMC prime cinema but with addition to food ordering. The food menu is expansive, including appetizers, salads, sandwiches, snacks, pizza, Texmex and more. And a selection of almost 50 beers and ciders on tap alongside cocktails, wine and more are also available.
It’s really a film lovers paradise. And the best news is that the ticket prices are not expensive, it’s about the same as seeing a normal movie at a chain theater but you get the upgraded experience. The only downside, for us at least, is the downtown Los Angeles location. Despite the fact that the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Los Angeles is located at a subway stop, it’s not easy to get there from where we live compared to Arclight or AMC. But it might be worth going to for some of the cinema’s special events like Weird Wednesday and Terror Tuesday.

USA: SAN DIEGO: PLANET HOLLYWOOD RESTAURANT OPENING
English/Nat
With Oscar fever mounting, Hollywood stars descended on San Diego, California, Saturday night for the opening of the latest Planet Hollywood restaurant.
Fans turned up in their thousands to catch a glimpse of the celebrity guests.
It looked like a dress rehearsal for Monday's Academy Awards Ceremony - but the venue wasn't the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion ... but a restaurant in San Diego.
For California's star-gazers though this wasn't just any restaurant opening - they thronged the street outside the new Planet Hollywood craning their necks for a glimpse of the celebrities.
The waiting paid off.
A host of stars filed past on their way to dinner.
This is the opening of the 19th Planet Hollywood - a chain of restaurants set up and owned by the actors Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis.
Crammed with film memorabilia and serving a range of Tex-Mex food, the venture has proved a runaway success throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
The San Diego opening was the stuff Hollywood premieres are made off - the stars smiled, waved and the crowds screamed.
And despite the media scrum, the cameras rolled on.
Most of the guests wore the regulation jackets with the Planet Hollywood logo emblazoned on the back.
The recently-married Roseanne Barr arrived with her new husband.
Also there was Baywatch star Yasmine Bleeth.
Bruce Willis, sporting a new haircut was accompanied by his wife, actress Demi Moore.
Luke Perry, star of the popular series Beverly Hills 90210, even had a few mementos to hand out to the waiting fans.
The guest list also included Hollywood veterans like James Coburn... ...and funny girl Whoopi Goldberg.
Arnold Schwarzenegger drew huge cheers from the crowds.
He brought his mother along to the event.
Last of the co-owners to arrive was Sylvester Stallone.
Hundreds of guests packed out the restaurant and only a lucky few were able to sit down to enjoy their Planet Hollywood meal!

Starting Point: Ocean Avenue .
Santa Monica is a beachfront city in western Los Angeles County, California, United States. Situated on Santa Monica Bay, it is bordered on three sides by the city of Los Angeles – Pacific Palisades to the north, Brentwood on the northeast, Sawtelle on the east, Mar Vista on the southeast, and Venice on the south.
Due in part to an agreeable climate, Santa Monica became a famed resort town by the early 20th century. The city has experienced a boom since the late 1980s through the revitalization of its downtown core, significant job growth and increased tourism. The Santa Monica Pier remains a popular destination.
Los Angeles, officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the second-most populous city (over 18 million) in the United States (after New York City), the most populous city in California. Situated in Southern California, Los Angeles is known for its Mediterranean climate, ethnic diversity, sprawling metropolis, and as a major center of the American entertainment industry. Los Angeles lies in a large coastal basin surrounded on three sides by mountains reaching up to and over 10,000 feet.
Nicknamed the City of Angels, Los Angeles is a global city with a diverse economy in entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, sports, technology, education, medicine and research. The city is one of the most substantial economic engines within the United States. The area economy is the third-largest in the world, after the Greater Tokyo and New York metropolitan areas.

It's very hard for me to say, you know, to answer a question: what do you hope the audience comes away with. I hope they go home thinking that they didn't waste their money when they bought the ticket. That their time has been improved that they have some worth while things to think about and they had fun and they have something to talk about when they have dinner that night. I hope they all have dinner together and I hope they go back and see the movie and take grandma and the neighbours so they can all talk about it again.

STORYLINE:
TOMMY LEE JONES SUES PARAMOUNT PICTURES
Tommy Lee Jones is suing the makers of No Country for Old Men for more than 10 (m) million US dollars that the actor claims he is owed for starring in the 2007 Oscar-winning crime thriller.
The lawsuit against Paramount Pictures claims that Jones was promised significant box-office bonuses and other compensation depending on the success of the film, which went on to take in more than 160 (m) million US dollars at the box office.
The movie, which is set in Texas and is based on a critically acclaimed Cormac McCarthy novel, garnered four Academy awards, including best picture.
A message left for Paramount Pictures on Saturday (06SEP) was not immediately returned. Jones declined comment through his publicist, Jennifer Allen, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
The lawsuit was filed on Thursday (04SEP) in Bexar County in San Antonio. Netherlands-based N.M. Classics, Inc., a Paramount subsidiary, is also named in the lawsuit.
Jones, who played Sheriff Ed Tom Bell in the film, claims he was not paid promised bonuses and had expenses wrongly deducted.
The lawsuit says Jones was paid a reduced upfront fee in joining the film, and that his contract had known errors not corrected before the movie was made.
Jones, 61, is asking that an auditor be named to review financial records to determine how much he should be paid.

Starting Point: Wilshire Boulevard .
Wilshire Boulevard is a densely developed street throughout most of its span, connecting five of Los Angeles's major business districts to each other, as well as Beverly Hills. Many of the post-1956 skyscrapers in Los Angeles are located along Wilshire; for example, One Wilshire, built in 1966 at the junction of Wilshire and Grand, is said to be ...the main hub of the internet for the entire Pacific Rim due to the large concentration of telecommunications companies renting space there. Aon Center, at one point Los Angeles' largest (and presently second-largest) tower, is at 707 Wilshire Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles.
Wilshire Boulevard is one of the principal east-west roads in Los Angeles, California, extending from Santa Monica to Grand Avenue in the Financial District of downtown Los Angeles.
One particularly famous stretch of the boulevard between Fairfax and Highland Avenues is known as the Miracle Mile. Many of Los Angeles' largest museums are located there. The area just to the east of that, between Highland Avenue and Wilton Place, is referred to as the Park Mile. Between Westwood and Holmby Hills, several tall glitzy condominium buildings overlook this part of Wilshire, giving it the title of Millionaire's Mile. This section is also known as the Wilshire Corridor and Condo Canyon.
The Wilshire Corridor, located next to Century City, is one of Los Angeles' busiest districts, and contains many high-rise residential towers. The Fox and MGM studios are located in a series of skyscrapers, along with many historic Los Angeles hotels.
Wilshire Boulevard is also the principal street of Koreatown, the site of many of Los Angeles' oldest buildings, as well as skyscrapers. Koreatown and Mid-Wilshire are among Los Angeles' most densely populated districts.
