Driving the Independence Dr to the Arch 22 / Banjul - Gambia
Another episode of driving the roads in the Gambia, this time the Independence Dr towards the Arch 22. Starting at City Council & the hospital, on the right, halfway this video, you can see the large Banjul Mosque on the left, followed by the ridiculously large special green stands where the presidents pass the annual parade. Only used for shadow during the rest of the year. Ending at the Arch 22 the best known monument & museum in the Gambia, when you're around, you should visit this. THE GAMBIA GRTS ARCH 22 INDEPENDENCE DAY 1999: SENOR
Today I came across an old tape I made during my stay in The Gambia in 1999. It was a show on GRTS (The Gambian TV)a festival for Independence Day. I went to Banjul to see it live but at home I put the taperecorder on . So I am glad to share some wonderful music with you all but especially with you my Gambian friends . Enjoy !

Gambia Arch22, Banjul 25th july
Arch 22 was built in 1996 to celebrate the coup`d`tat of 22 july 1994 of Yahya Jammeh who overthrew the elected government. he is now in exile after committing alleged atrocities in his country. its an impressive structure of 35m tall and great views of Banjul. the arch is a little run down with no lift but stairs, so a good climb. the ferry is very busy and the market also did not film a lot in the market as to busy ! a view of the large christian burial site at the start it is a very welcoming place ! cheers all please comment ?

Arch 22 is a commemorative arch on the road into Banjul in the Gambia. It was built in 1996 to mark the military coup d'état of July 22, 1994, through which Yahya Jammeh and his Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council overthrew the democratically elected Gambian government.[1]
The Arch stands on the Banjul-Serrekunda Highway, near the traffic island at the intersection with Box Bar Road, Independence Drive, and Marina Parade. A statue of the unknown soldier can be seen near the base of the arch: the soldier has a rifle strapped to his back and carries a baby in one hand while signaling victory (making a V-sign) with the other.
Arch 22 is depicted on the back of the 100-dalasis banknote.
