Kos Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kos in Greece.
Kos is an historic island oasis beneath the Greek sun. Not the largest of the Dodecanese Islands but certainly one of its most fascinating, with endless sandy beaches and an ancient heritage. The capital of the island is Chora Kos and for 2,000 years, it has been the nerve centre of the island. The city once suffered devastating earthquakes and the island was plagued by numerous invaders including the Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, the Knights of St. John and finally, the Turks. The Platia Eleftherìas is the main square of today’s Kos and contains the Archaeological Museum that is housed in a futuristic looking Italian building that dates back to the 1930s. Four kilometres from the city, high in the Dikeos Mountains, is one of the island’s most important sights, the Asclepion, an ancient hospital and sanctuary. A winding road leads to the village of Kefalos, that from below, looks like a small fortified complex. Its white houses and narrow alleys are free of traffic and it’s as though time has stood still. Formerly a village of fishermen, agriculture is now the main source of income for the local people. Kefalos has much historical significance, as it was built on the ruins of the first capital of the island and Hypocrates was born here in 460 B.C. Antimachia Castle was built in the 13th century by the Venetians and later expanded by the Knights of St. John. Its mighty external walls are most impressive but only a few cisterns and two small chapels remain. Fascinating landscapes and the historic monuments of many epoques make the Greek island of Kos a sparkling jewel of the Aegean.

Was WRITING Invented in GREECE 7300 Years Ago? - The Dispilio Tablet
An important finding was unearthed 20 years ago, in Dispilio, near the city of Kastoria, in Macedonia, a region of Northern Greece, by the archaeological team of George Chourmouziadis, a professor of prehistoric archaeology. The Dispilio Tablet is the oldest known engraved wooden tablet ever found. According to the professor, some symbols are similar to some letters of the Greek alphabet and some others to the Linear A script. If this proves to be the case with these findings, the whole history of writing should be reconsidered.

7:00 am Colonna harbor. I decided to leave for the island of Rhodes Island neighborhood. The port is where boats go coming to Turkey and Dodecanese Islands in the Aegean Sea Crab sauce. About one hour by boat from Rhodes Island head to take the course. Kos Island in the Greek myth of Hercules hear the shepherd antago that the island is famous duel with Lars. Where the island itself is intertwined with the history and current life enough to be called historic. Why Kos Island is more famous because it is home to the 'Hippocrates' called the father of medicine. He said to his disciples, he taught under the trees. Hippocratic Oath of doctors around the world have graduated from the School of Medicine Hippocrates when they made the belief that human beings must respect more than anything prior to the procedure's ability doctor. I have a prescription to help the patients according to my ability and judgment, I will not prescribe where the sun is absolute.

Archaeological Discoveries of the Ancient Spartans
The Spartans were a warrior society in ancient Greece that conquered many of the surrounding kingdoms, even going so far as to take down Athens during the Peloponnesian War. They are often depicted as fearlessly loyal and ruthless fighters but, historically, they were quite the refined culture. Here are six interesting archaeological discoveries from the time of the Spartans.
6. The Lost Palace
In early 2015, archaeologists discovered a ten room complex in Greece full of cultic objects and lost language texts that very well may be the long last Spartan palace of Mycenaean Sparta. The badly damaged building had been burned to the ground in the fourteenth century but still left behind a selection of incredible artifacts including bronze swords, a nautilus emblazoned seal, bits and pieces of ornate murals, and a cultic cup depicting a bull’s head. Several tablets written in a lost script that was the first form of Greek written language that was known as Linear B were also found in the rubble.
5. A Rare Fresco
The story of Leda and Zeus is incredibly bizarre and, to those who exist in modern times, a bit elicit and disturbing. The tale paints Leda as the incredibly beautiful queen of Sparta. Her sheer beauty enamored the god, Zeus, who took the form of a swan to pursue her. When Leda procreated with her husband later that night, swan-Zeus also took part, impregnating the queen and causing her to produce two eggs, from which two sons and two daughters hatched, one of each from each of the fathers. The two daughters, Helen and Clytemnestra would go on to play vital roles in the history of Greece, with Helen’s doomed romance with the prince of Troy, Paris, sparking the Trojan war and Clytemnestra marrying the mycenaean king Agamemnon and subsequently murdering him some time later.
4. The Ancient Theater
Built between 30 and 20 BC, the ancient theater of Sparta now sits as nothing more than a set of ruins embedded in the sun baked earth. Holding a capacity of up to sixteen thousand spectators, the massive theater was once the peaque of Spartan entertainment. It drew countless visitors and held many popular theatrical ventures year round.
3. The Tomb of Leonidas
With the first excavation being carried out in 1892 by famed archaeologist Charles Waldstein, the Tomb of Leonidas was a significant find that happened by pure luck. Though it has not been officially confirmed, the tomb, which was once thought by Waldstein to have been nothing more than a temple before he began his investigation, is believed to have been the final resting place of Leonidas, the Spartan king who rallied an army of unified Greek warriors from numerous city states to fight back against Xerxes invading Persian army.
2. The Hippocratic School of Medicine
Hippocrates of Kos is one of the most famed figures in all of Ancient Greece. The physician lived during the 4th and 5th centuries and is credited with forging medicine as a separate profession from philosophy and theurgy. Hippocrates was so thorough with his work that for the next two thousand years there was almost no progress made in the Greek medical field; there was simply no work to be improved upon until greater technologies became available. Hippocrates’s ideas are still used to this day through the Hippocratic Oath that doctors and other medical professionals take upon being approved to work in their chosen field; he was a man of great honor and professionalism, two qualities that are required of all medical professionals in the developed world. One of the great doctor’s greatest achievements was the formation of the Hippocratic School of Medicine, a school located on the island of Kos that helped to revolutionize the field within Greek culture and created a force of knowledgeable, well prepared doctors to work in the country. The medical school sparked other similar establishments to be built in other countries, improving the quality of medical care worldwide.
1. A 3500 Year Old Tomb
In May of 2015, a pair of archaeologists rounded out several days of digging in a nearly constant onslaught of rain with an absolutely stunning find. While picking through the stones under a manmade shade, the duo soon noticed a well arranged rock rectangle. Removing a large slab of stone, one of the two noticed something flash in the sunlight. They had hit bronze! Sweeping the dust aside, the researchers uncovered what would be the first in a string of artifact recoveries from the site. Over the next six months, a team of archaeologists uncovered basins, weapons, and armor made of bronze along with gold and silver cups, hundreds of carnelian, amethyst, amber, and gold beads, hand carved stone seals, and a selection of golden rings.
Dodecanese Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Dodecanese in Turkey.
Dodecanese is the name of a group of Greek islands that is located in the southeast of the Aegean Sea just off the Turkish coast. It warrants more than its name of ‘Twelve Islands’, as it contains more than 19 inhabited and around 50 small uninhabited islands.Kos is the green pearl of the Aegean, a historic oasis beneath the Greek sun. Not the largest of the Dodecanese Islands but certainly one of its most fascinating. The capital of the island is Chora Kos. Following their arrival from Jerusalem in the 14th century, the Order of the Knights of Malta built a huge fortified complex in the town. The city’s spacious square is surrounded by numerous buildings plus a museum. There are stone busts and statues of the Roman and Hellenistic eras that offer a good insight into the imaginative culture of a golden age. In the square, a number of steps lead up to the city’s cathedral, the Agia Paraskevi. Not a large structure but extremely modern and well located in the centre of the town.Only four kilometres from the city, high in the Dikeos Mountains is one of the island’s most important sights, the asklepieion, an ancient hospital and sanctuary. It was here that the Greeks worshipped the god of medicine who was later named Askulap by the Romans.Rhodes was one of the most important cities in antiquity and fended off attack due to its impressively tall defensive walls. The mighty-looking fortification was in reality a deception, as it was far from sturdy but its many defensive towers and pinnacles had their desired effect.Lindos is the most beautiful village in Rhodes with Paulus Bay and an acropolis that is located high above the sea.It was here that the sun was born and where the gods, knights and tourists have always sought good fortune and been captivated with the enchanting islands of the Dodecanese.

An asclepeion was a healing temple in ancient Greece (and Rome), sacred to the god Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine. These healing temples were a place where patients would visit to receive either treatment or some sort of healing, whether it was spiritual or physical. The Asclepeion of Kos is one of the most impressive sanctuaries consacrated to Asclepius, the greek god of medicine.
