My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Syria: Aleppo museum reopens after years-long closure

The National Museum of Aleppo has reopened in the Syrian city on Thursday, following its closure in 2012 amid heavy clashes.
The museum was founded in 1931, occupying a small Ottoman palace. Following the Directorate of Antiquities' decision, the palace was dismantled and replaced with a modern structure some three decades later. The museum hosts items from many historical periods, including the Late Bronze Age, the Iron Age and the classical period. The museum also exhibits finds from numerous archaeological sites, including those from northern Syria.
Member of the Heritage Committee in the Engineers' Association of Aleppo, Mohammad Ismail Ahmad, said that it is a very nice occasion today that the museum is back to work after the destruction that took place in most important locations of Aleppo.
The museum is the place where civilisations in Syria meet, adding that it is a museum for the north of Syria entirely.
The Aleppo museum suffered significant structural damage, including a partial destruction of the concrete roof, after being targeted by numerous missiles and mortars, allegedly fired by militants.

A New Mosaic from Phillipoppolis, Syria
13th ICCM Conference Barcelona 2017 | Video Session
Special Mention to the video of Maher Jbaee & Moutaz Al Shaieb (DGAM Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums in Damascus, Syria) entitled A New Mosaic from Phillipoppolis, Syria
Our mosaic is from the ancient city of Phillipoppolis , modern days Shahba at Al Swieda province in the south of Syria
the flourished period of this city was during the time of the Syrian emperor Philippe the Arab who ruled Rome between 244-249 A.D.
he made this city as a mini version of Rome. It has a lot of unique and amazing mosaics many of them have been displayed in the museums and many others still in their original sites.
This mosaic detached from its original site in 1970s and put it in the storage.
in the beginning of 2014 we started to work on this cloudy mosaic, because we didn't have any documents talks about the scene or the details of this mosaic, just one paper where it was in the original site. in this video we highlighted the main steps of our project ( Restoration and Documentation ).
Thanks for the Team of our laboratory

Syrian historical sites
[Cantonese] Syria world heritage Site of Palmyra 叙利亚世界遗产 帕尔米拉古城遗址
[ An oasis in the Syrian desert, north-east of Damascus, Palmyra contains the monumental ruins of a great city that was one of the most important cultural centres of the ancient world. From the 1st to the 2nd century, the art and architecture of Palmyra, standing at the crossroads of several civilizations, married Graeco-Roman techniques with local traditions and Persian influences.

Syria: Restoration of Raqqa war-damaged historical sites begins
The restoration of historical sites destroyed during the Syrian civil war kicked off in Raqqa, with volunteers championing the civil movement, footage from Thursday reveals.
SOT, Talal Al-Khalil, Rou'yah organisation (Arabic): We started our work by conducting comprehensive research about the museum and what it needs. As I have mentioned before, the museum was in a dire state. We started cleaning its interior; we started scraping the walls as they had sustained serious damage and cracks. We also restored a hole in the ceiling. After finishing the first stage, the cleaning, we moved onto the steel doors, which were severely damaged. We replaced the damaged steel with designs that suite this old architecture along with fitting traditional ornaments.
SOT, Talal Al-Khalil, Rou'yah organisation (Arabic): As you see here, the paintings were also severely defaced. We consulted specialists so that they can restore these paintings and bring them back to life. This work definitely requires a specialist eye, who then put forward the plans needed. It's not a random job.
SOT, Yasser Al-Mehrab, Head of Antiquities and Museums Office in Raqqa's Civil Council (Arabic): We conducted several studies about historical sites, including the Raqqa Wall. We also conducted studies on the old mosque, the Baghdad Gate. Of course, we have developed multiple plans to restore these sites.
SOT, Yasser Al-Mehrab, Head of Antiquities and Museums Office in Raqqa's Civil Council (Arabic): We need a lot of time in order to be able to restore these sites. Rouy'yah organisation is the only organisation to have expressed the will to cooperate with us in restoring these historical sites. Oxygen organisation took on a project to clear the park adjacent to the Raqqa Wall. We urge others to support us in preserving the history of Raqqa, because the civilizations that belonged to Raqqa should belong to the entire world.
