Church of Archangelos Michael
The Church of Archangelos Michail was built and adorned with frescoes in the mid-15th century. The coat of arms of the Lousingane dynasty, decorating the ancient iconostasis, is a reminder that at one time the Church belonged to the royal family. Above the south entrance - a fresco depicting the priest Vassilios Chamados with his wife and child- who made donations for the building of the Church. Their clothing reflects the traditional attire of the time. The name of the artist of the fascinating paintings - the famous artists Minas. Being a representative of the PreByzantine style, popular in Cyprus until the time of the Venetian rule, so there is no evident influencse of the Italian style in his work. All the imagery in the frescoes is fascinating, particularly emotive and even grandiose is the depiction of Archangel Michael in purple and armour.

Our Shared Heritage: Rebuilding Trust in Cyprus
Ali Tuncay and Takis Hadjidemetriou are two of ten (5 Greek Cypriot and 5 Turkish Cypriot) custodians of cultural heritage in Cyprus.
Appointed by their respective leaders in 2008 as representatives of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, their role is to watch over the proper safeguard and conservation of Cyprus’ rich historical and archaeological heritage. Not an easy task considered the more than 2300 immovable cultural heritage sites that Phoenicians, Venetians, Lusignans and Ottomans – among others - have left on the island as legacy of their presence.
UNDP’s assistance to the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage started in 2009 when it was requested by the European Commission to support a Study of Cultural Heritage in Cyprus. The study laid the foundation for a more active role of cultural heritage in the on-going peace and confidence building process on the island.
Thanks to the discrete work of people like Ali and Takis, who for their efforts were awarded in 2015 the European Citizens Prize, Cypriot cultural heritage has finally found in the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage a space where practical aspects of preservation are considered in a non-political manner.

UNDP in Cyprus: Messages from Agios Afksentios - Our Shared Heritage #3
Conservation projects across the island, led by the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, with EU and UNDP support, are not only re-establishing community links between villages and their former residents, but also encouraging cross-community exchanges. This is perhaps most evident in the journey of Ismail and Christina, whose stories has become linked following the restoration of the church of their village..
