Olomouc - Saint Wenceslas Cathedral, Czechia - Czech Republic [4K] (videoturysta.eu)
[EN] Saint Wenceslas Cathedral in Olomouc is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Czechia. The interior and exterior of the cathedral is very historical and impressive. It was founded in 1107 so it was a Romanesque church, but after a fire in 1265 it was completely rebuilt in the Gothic style. At the end of the 19th century several Neogothic additions were made to make it look even more awesome. It is located at some distance from the town center (a 10-15 minute walk from the old town).

Olomouc (Czech Republic) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Olomouc in Czech Republic.
The city of Olomouc is located on the Czech Republic’s Hanna Plain on the March River and was one of the centres of the realm of Great Moravia and is one of the oldest seats of the Přemyslids. Today, modern fountains distract at historic Horni Náměsti, or Upper Ring where, in 1306, Václav The Third was murdered. In 1469, a Hungarian, Matthias Corvinius, was proclaimed King Of Bohemia and the Hussite armies were forced to withdraw. The Hauenschild Palace is a sixteenth century Renaissance building with a richly decorated portal and bay windows, as well having a musical history. In 1767 the eleven year old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived there and composed a symphony. Even today mighty Baroque buildings shape the old town. The House Of The Kurie Of The Archbishops is another splendid example of Catholic power. Its residents clearly had a special fondness for running water, as indicated by the Merkur Fountain. Olomouc is a remarkable work of Baroque art as well as being an historic gem!

Kroměříž (Czech Republic) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kromeriz in the Czech Republic.
The tranquil town of Kromĕříž in the southeast of today’s Czech Republic is a milestone of nineteenth century Habsburgian history. Kromĕříž Castle was the traditional summer residence of the bishops of Olomouc and became a key influence in the town’s cultural life. Typical statues and Baroque and Rococo figures adorn both the walls and niches of the arcades of the castle’s well-tended courtyard. An impressive staircase decorated with large figures leads to the second floor and the Picture Gallery which contains the Apollon And Marsyas by Tizian, one of the great masters of Venetian Renaissance. The Reichstag Hall is the castle’s largest room and is where the history of the nineteenth century comes to life. During the turmoil of the Bourgeois Revolution of 1848, Emperor Ferdinand The First fled from Vienna to Olomouc and the Austrian Reichstag met there and it was also where the first democratic constitution in Europe was discussed and the idea of All State power emanates from the people! Since 1998 the castle and its park and flower garden have been designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site. Kromĕříž Castle and gardens are among the most well preserved Baroque examples of a royal residence. Although architecturally in the Viennese style of the K & K monarchy they are notable as a fascinating symbol of democracy

European Heritage Label - Olomouc Premyslid Castle and Archdiocesan Museum
The European Heritage Label goes to cultural heritage sites important to the history of the EU as a whole. European Heritage Label sites are also recognised for highlighting this European context, ensuring access for the public and organising awareness-raising activities.
The Olomouc Premyslid Castle and Archdiocesan Museum in Czech Republic was selected for the European Heritage Label in 2016. The Olomouc Premyslid Castle and Archdiocesan Museum are a focal point of Moravian presence in European history.
My first stop in the region of Moravia is Kromeriz, a pretty town of about 30,000 inhabitants. Life here is very quiet. It is the ideal place to go for a walk and have a beer with friends. The city is organized around the Velke Square, where we find the neoclassical Cathedral of Saint Moritz and the church of Saint John the Baptist in Baroque style. But what has brought me to Kromeriz is this building. When you come to visit the Czech Republic, the city of Kromeriz is a mandatory visit because here is the Archbishop’s Palace, declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

The Kroměříž Castle in Kroměříž, Czech Republic, used to be the principal residence of the bishops and (since 1777) archbishops of Olomouc.
The first residence on the site was founded by bishop Stanislas Thurzo in 1497.
The building was in a Late Gothic style, with a modicum of Renaissance detail.
During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was sacked by the Swedish army (1643).
It was not until 1664 that a bishop from the powerful Liechtenstein family charged architect Filiberto Lucchese with renovating the palace in a Baroque style.
The chief monument of Lucchese's work in Kroměříž is the Pleasure Garden in front of the castle.
Upon Lucchese's death in 1666, Giovanni Pietro Tencalla completed his work on the formal garden and had the palace rebuilt in a style reminiscent of the Turinese school to which he belonged.
After the castle was gutted by a major fire in March 1752, Bishop Hamilton commissioned two leading imperial artists, Franz Anton Maulbertsch and Josef Stern, arrived at the residence in order to decorate the halls of the palace with their works.
In addition to their paintings, the palace still houses an art collection, generally considered the second finest in the country, which includes Titian's last mythological painting, The Flaying of Marsyas.
The largest part of the collection was acquired by Bishop Karel in Cologne in 1673.
The palace also contains an outstanding musical archive and a library of 33,000 volumes.
UNESCO lists the palace and garden among the World Heritage Sites.
As the nomination dossier explains, the castle is a good but not outstanding example of a type of aristocratic or princely residence that has survived widely in Europe.
The Pleasure Garden, by contrast, is a very rare and largely intact example of a Baroque garden.
Apart from the formal parterres there is also a less formal nineteenth-century English garden, which sustained damage during floods in 1997.
Interiors of the palace were extensively used by Miloš Forman as a stand-in for Vienna's Hofburg Imperial Palace during filming of Amadeus (1984), based on the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who actually never visited Kroměříž.
The main audience chamber was also used in the film Immortal Beloved (1994), in the piano concerto scene.

Kromeriz UNESCO
The settlement, inhabited by Slavs since at least the 7th century, was founded in 1260 by Bruno von Schauenburg, bishop of Olomouc. Bruno chose Kroměříž to become his see and he also made his castle the centre of his dominion, which consisted of more than 60 vassals from all over Moravia. Kroměříž is referred to as a market village in a document by Přemysl Otakar II from 1256, but by 1266 it was already referred to as a town. Bruno established what was to become the famous Archbishop's Palace. The town was badly damaged in the Thirty Years' War, was plundered twice by Swedish troops (1643 and 1645), and after this the Black Death took its toll on the population. Bishop Karl II von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn rebuilt the city and the palace after that war. The Constitutive Imperial Congress sat in Kroměříž in 1848.

Kromeriz - Moravia, Czech Republic
Kromeriz, in southern Moravia, about 60 km from Brno and 270 km from Prague is a quiet town with a beautiful center and a relaxing place to visit.
The Kromeriz Castle, it's parks and the Kromeriz Flower Gardens are listed as Unesco World Heritage monuments but there are many other parts of the town of Kromeriz which are worth visiting and will make your stay even more complete and worthwile.
Kroměříž stands on the site of an earlier ford across the River Morava, at the foot of the Chriby mountain range which dominates the central part of Moravia. The gardens and castle of Kroměříž are an exceptionally complete and well-preserved example of a European Baroque princely residence and its gardens.

It's known that people from the Czech region of our country are not regular church goers, however people who do visit church are real believers. In Morava people go to church much more because that's the part of community culture, otherwise they would be socially excluded.

I think there are more religious people in our country than what we think. People have mostly lost their trust in religious institutions rather than in God.
9. SOUNDBITE (Czech) Klara Kucerova, from Brno:
I am sure that some public opinion research would prove that Czechs are getting less religious every year. They are more interested in horoscopes or other kind of magical predictions.

Our claim is not 270 (b) billion Czech Koruna (10.08 (b) billion Euro), that information is simply not correct. We are asking 83 (b) billion Czech Koruna (3.10 (b) billion Euro). A few years ago the special parliamentary commission supported by experts team made the query and came up with the conclusion that we ask only one third of what we could claim.

STORYLINE
Pope Benedict XVI is going to the heart of central Europe 20 years after the fall of communism ended restrictions on religion but what he will find in the Czech Republic is a land where nearly half the population professes to be non-believers.
Like an ancient missionary on his three-day pilgrimage starting on Saturday, Benedict will try to reinvigorate the faith with a series of religious services, a side trip to the traditional Catholic heartland in Moravia and repeated reminders of the country's Christian roots.
Even after communism fell in 1989, the Catholic church is still battling for the return of St. Vitus Cathedral, the Gothic centrepiece of Prague's Hradcany Castle that the Communists gave to the state along with other church property.
The 82-year-old pope is making the 13th foreign trip of his papacy, many of them centered around the warning that modern culture is pushing God out of people's lives and making religion irrelevant in public life.
The Czech Republic is not alone, other countries such as Sweden and Germany count large numbers, but it not only has a high percentage of non-believers but the numbers of church members are dropping, surveys show.
According to the 2001 census, some 3.3 (m) million people in the nation of 10 (m) million said they belonged to a church, down from 4.5 (m) million in 1991.
A poll on the issue conducted by the STEM agency showed some 48 percent of Czechs saying they do not believe in God, while 28 percent are believers and 24 percent don't know.
