The Archbishop Palace is found on the street named Hatun Rumiyoc menaning great stone. Built during the viceroyal period and exhibiting definite Arabic influences, it is a one story building with a magnificent facade, solidly constructed wood balconies, and lovely Baroque columns.
The historic building was constructed on the palace foundations of one of the Incan Emperors, Inca Roca. Presently, it is headquarters of the Museum of Religious Art, where its ornate ceiling panels and many beautiful mosaics are a must see.

I NEED MORE DRINKS FOR THIS! (Lima, Peru)
American Airlines put this trip together to celebrate their inaugural flight from Dallas, TX to Lima, Peru. They gave us a Top 5 list of things to do in Lima--so on our second day we explored Downtown Lima and saw a show at Las Brisas Del Titicaca.
We went to Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayor), which is Lima's central square. Here we saw the Cathedral of Lima, the Archbishops Palace and the Government/Presidential Palace, as well as the Changing of the Guard. That night we went to Las Brisas Del Titicaca, a dinner show that showcases traditional Peruvian dances.

Peru - Lima - Cathedral of Lima 01
The Basilica Cathedral of Lima, otherwise Lima Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in the Plaza Mayor of downtown Lima, Peru. Construction began in 1535, and the building has undergone many reconstructions and transformations since. It retains its colonial structure and facade. It is dedicated to St John, Apostle and Evangelist.
In keeping with the majority of cathedrals the front facade has three large doorways. The main or central gateway is called the Portada del Perdón or the door of forgiveness. Above the doorway is the Peruvian seal and the phrase Plus Ultra rather than Lima's coat-of-arms. The two high towers with spire of slate, are neoclassical with stylistic influences of the school El Escorial and of northern Europe.
There are 14 side chapels, one of which opens on to Calle de Judíos (Street of the Jews) and another on to the Patio de los Naranjos (Square of the Orange Trees, connected to the Cathedral). At the rear are two more entrances: Santa Apolonia and San Cristóbal. Set on the front facade are sculptures of the Apostles and in the middle, the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Adjoining the Cathedral are the Parroquia del Sagrario (one of the oldest ones in Lima) and the Archbishop's Palace.
Inside, along the side aisles, are a sequence of large paintings of the Via Crucis, Way of the Cross. Pope John Paul II visited this cathedral on two occasions, in 1985 and 1988. This is commemorated with signs at the entrance.
In the left aisle, the first chapel holds the ancient baptistery. Here can be seen a beautiful image of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, who presides over the events during Cuaresm and Holy Week. During a recent restoration, ancient pictures were found in this chapel that have been restored and are displayed again for the public.
The next chapel is Capilla de la Sagrada Familia (chapel of the Holy Family), featuring figures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

STORYLINE:
The Vatican's Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, arrived in Lima on Thursday for an official visit that will include a tour of the area affected by last week's earthquake.
Upon his arrival in Lima's Jorge Chavez International airport, Cardinal Bertone delivered a message from Pope Benedict XVI.
It is a recommendation (from the Pope) to have confidence and to have hope, because everyone has solidarity towards the people of Peru, he said.
Last Sunday Pope Benedict XVI announced that Bertone would go to Peru to bring the witness of my sentiment and the concrete aid of the Holy See.
The Secretary of State emphasised his message of hope, adding that in the areas worst hit by the magnitude-8 earthquake there is a need for a new strength of reconstruction, moral reconstruction as well as material reconstruction.
The Pope's right hand man was expected to meet with Cardinal Priest and Archbishop of Lima Juan Luis Cipriani as well as the country's President Alan Garcia.
He is also expected to travel to Ica and Pisco - where over 540 people died and thousands remain homeless following the August 15 earthquake.
The Vatican said it has donated 200-thousand US dollars in aid for victims of the earthquake.

Peru: Cardinal Has Personal Investments in Large Companies
A journalist’s investigation has revealed how conservative Cardinal and Lima Archbishop Juan Luis Cipriani used his position in the Church to fight movements against abusive extractive companies, while the Archdiocese of Lima invested in stocks of one of the most controversial mining companies. This contrasts with the progressive policies promoted by the Pope. Rael Mora reports from Lima. teleSUR
