Famous Museum in (Mumbai),Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya,History of India
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) formerly Prince of Wales Museum of Western India, is the main museum in Mumbai, Maharashtra , It was founded in the early years of the 20th century by prominent citizens of Mumbai, with the help of the government, to commemorate the visit of Edward VIII, who was Prince of Wales at the time. It is located in the heart of South Mumbai near the Gateway of India. The museum was renamed in the 1990s or early 2000s after Shivaji, the founder of Maratha Empire. Prior to this, Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, formerly the Victoria and Albert Museum, was established in 1855, just opposite Byculla railway station, Mumbai. This museum is located in side the Victoria Garden, now called Jijamata Udyaan. This Gothic architecture building was revived a few years ago by the Mumbai municipal corporation authorities.
The building is built in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture, incorporating elements of other styles of architecture like the Mughal, Maratha and Jain. The museum building is surrounded by a garden of palm trees and formal flower beds.
The museum houses approximately 50,000 exhibits of ancient Indian history as well as objects from foreign lands, categorized primarily into three sections: Art, Archaeology and Natural History. The museum houses Indus Valley Civilization artefacts, and other relics from ancient India from the time of the Guptas, Mauryas, Chalukyas and Rashtrakuta.
In 1904, some leading citizens of Bombay decided to provide a museum to commemorate the visit of the Prince of Wales, the future King George V. On 14 August 1905, the committee passed a resolution saying:
'Statue of The Prince of Wales, who became the Emperor, George Vth, later
The museum building embodies the pomp and height at which the British raj was moving ahead with their ambitious plans, in building the great metropolis Bombay. In keeping pace with the best style of local architecture, many buildings were built, among which, Bombay High Court building, and later, Gateway of India buildings were the most notable ones
On two sides of the statue has mural type of stone carving depicting the POW inaugurating the museum
The foundation stone was laid by the Prince of Wales on the 11 November 1905 and the museum was formally named Prince of Wales Museum of Western India. [1] On 1 March 1907, the government of the Bombay Presidency granted the museum committee a piece of land called the Crescent Site, where the museum now stands. Following an open design competition, in 1909 the architect George Wittet was commissioned to design the Museum building. Wittet had already worked on the design of the General Post Office and in 1911 would design one of Mumbai's most famous landmarks, the Gateway of India. [5]
The museum was funded by the Royal Visit (1905) Memorial Funds. Additionally, the Government and the Municipality granted Rs. 300,000 and Rs. 250,000 respectively. Sir Currimbhoy Ibrahim (first Baronet) donated another Rs. 300,000 and Sir Cowasji Jehangir gave Rs. 50,000. The Museum was established under Bombay Act No. III of 1909. The museum is now maintained by annual grants from the Government and the Bombay Municipal Corporation. The latter pays for these grants from the interest accruing on the funds at the disposal of the Trust of the Museum.
The museum building was completed in 1915, but was used as a Children's Welfare Centre and a Military Hospital during the First World War, before being handed over to the committee in 1920. The Prince of Wales Museum was inaugurated on January 10, 1922, by Lady Lloyd, the wife of George Lloyd, Governor of Bombay.[6]
The museum building is a Grade I Heritage Building of the city and was awarded first prize (Urban Heritage Award) by the Bombay Chapter of the Indian Heritage Society for heritage building maintenance in 1990. In 1998 the Museum was renamed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya after the warrior king and founder of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.[7] The museum was renamed after the renaming of the city in 1995, when the colonial name Bombay was replaced by the native Mumbai

Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum (PUNE)-MAHARASHTRA
The Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum is in Pune, Maharashtra, India. It contains the collection of Dr Dinkar G. Kelkar (1896--1990), dedicated to the memory of his only son, Raja, who died an untimely tragic death. The three-storey building houses various sculptures dating back to the 14th century. There are also ornaments made of ivory, silver and gold, musical instruments (a particularly fine collection).[citation needed], war weapons and vessels, etc.
The collection was started around 1920 and by 1960 it contained around 15,000 objects. In 1962, Dr Kelkar handed his collection to the Department of Archaeology within the Government of Maharashtra.
The museum now holds over 20,000 objects of which 2,500 are on display. These consist of mainly Indian decorative items from everyday life and other art objects, mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum's collection depicts the skills of the Indian artists of the time. The door frames, vessels, ornaments, musical instruments, paintings and carvings represent outstanding examples of their art.
One part of particular interest is the Mastani Mahal. Raja Kelkar made a attempt at depicting the palace of Mastani, (wife of the Peshwa Baji Rao I) with its remnants. A beautiful piece in the collection is the carving of lord Ganesha on the seed; the idol of lord Ganesha is shown with his trunk towards the left, which is quite rare and difficult to build or draw.

Archaeologists in India Unearthed 4, 500-Year-Old Skeletal Remains That Reveal Ancient Secrets
A group of archaeologists is excavating a cemetery in India. The people buried in the cemetery are from the Harappan era. There are dozens of graves in the area, which shouldn't come as a big surprise. What else would you expect when excavating a burial ground. It wasn't the bodies that they found astonishing. It was something else. Archaeologists in India unearthed 4, 500-year-old skeletal remains that reveal ancient secrets.
The team of archaeologists was excavating the Harappan site from 2013 to 2016. Some were from India's Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute, which is based in the city of Pune. The other team working at the site was a group of scientists from the Institute of Forensic Science at South Korea's Seoul National University College of Medicine.
The excavation was taking place at an area called Rakhigarhi. The people who lived there dated back to about 5,300 years ago, during the Bronze Age. Harappa was one of the largest cities in the Indus Valley Civilization. Some of the finds at the site included terracotta blocks, statues, and jewelry.
The Indus Valley Cities around Harappa was considered to be very advanced for its time. The cities were planned systematically. They had structured water supplies and drainage schemes set up. The houses were built with fired blocks. The people there were very skilled when it came to craftwork, such as jewelry. They typically worked with bronze, tine, copper, and semi-precious stones.
Archaeologists found proof that the Harappans had a writing system. They found evidence of up to 600 different symbols carved into artifacts. The etchings were found on ceramic seals and vessels. Unfortunately, nobody knew what the etchings meant, so nobody was able to decipher them. It seemed to be a lost language.
The city was advanced in its drainage system. The houses were connected to conceal the drains that ran along the city streets. They were also believed to have been used for protection against flooding. They were very smart when it came to defense, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to protect people from other things.
When the excavation team and the archaeologists dug up the bodies, they had an idea of how this civilization died off. Many of the skeletons had apparent injuries. It is unknown whether another group attacked the city, or if the violence was internal. Injuries were not the only cause of death that the researchers found. It appeared that disease killed many of residents. Tuberculosis was one disease, but leprosy seemed to be the more prevalent cause of death due to disease.
Scientists have been looking for the reason that the Indus River Civilization ended. There are a number of theories. One theory is that there was an invasion and a huge battle that took out many of the residents. Some experts believe that a change in the course of the Indus River may have had a drastic effect on the Harappan civilization. Some are sure that climate change caused a severe drought, that could have impacted agriculture, which could have resulted in food shortages and starvation. Finally, monsoon rains increased temperatures, and earthquakes are believed to have been to blame.
Many archaeologists are sure that earthquakes are the cause of so many deaths. The earthquakes would have been powerful enough to destroy city structures and alter river systems. Between this and the drought, there just wasn't' enough water for everyone.
In 2015, the dig in the area was shut down. One worker was found guilty of fashioning false invoices while working at Rakhigarhi. Secretly, the excavation continued. They found a male and a female lying facing each other, intimately, which led everyone to believe that they were lovers. They were buried with pots, which people believed were necessary for them to go to the afterlife. It is believed that they were buried together so that they could remain together after death. This is proof that thousands of years ago, romance existed. The archaeologists who found the grave began calling the two occupants, the Valdaro Lovers. The woman showed obvious signs of a head injury, but the cause of death for the male is unknown. There are some people who don't believe that the couple was even male and female. Due to the decay of the bones over time, some say that it is hard to tell. Those who are true romantics believe that the couple was a male and female based on the way that they were buried together. The woman appeared to be resting her head on the male's shoulder, close to his head. The archaeologists who believe that the two are male and female are sure that the couple was once in love.

9. Egypt’s Most Influential Pharaoh
Last year, in 2017, National Geographic reported that archaeologists from Egypt and Germany had discovered a huge eight-metre statue submerged in ground water in Cairo. The statue at first was believed to depict Pharaoh Ramses II, who ruled Egypt over 3,000 years ago and was one of the country’s most powerful leaders.
8. Elite Tombs in Luxor
The discovery of two ancient tombs in the southern city of Luxor surprised the world and brought new buzz to Egypt in 2017. Located in the the Draa Abul Naga necropolis, this area is famous for its temples and burial grounds. It is close to the Valley of the Kings where many of ancient Egypt's pharaohs were buried.
7. A Nubian King
In 2008, the remains of a mysterious 2,600-year-old statue were discovered in a temple at Dangeil, along the Nile River in Sudan.
However, archeologists found only parts of the statue, which meant they could not identify who it was until years later. The temple where the remains were found are believed to have once been dedicated to the Egyptian Amun.
6. The Ankhesenpepi Pyramid
Archaeologists have discovered the first evidence of a long-lost satellite pyramid for the ancient Egyptian Queen Ankhesenpepi II. She was considered the most important Egyptian queen of the 6th Dynasty around 2,350 BC. She and her sister Ankhesenpepi I were both married to Pharaoh Pepi I. While the names might seem like a huge coincidence, it is most likely that they both took on the same name when they married.
5. Remains of a Musician
In Timna, Israel, archaeologists discovered the mysterious remains of a pregnant woman from 3,200 years ago. This biblical-era site supposedly never had any female visitors and during the time of her the place was controlled by Egypt. This discovery last year challenged the historical understanding of experts.
4. The Statue of Ptah
In 2014, archaeologists discovered a pit full of ancient goodies! Among them, a statue of the Egyptian Ptah, alongside a beautiful carved cat, a sphinx, and a Baboon.
Ptah was the of craftsmen and sculptors and was worshipped in a temple at Karnak.
3. Tutankhamen’s Camping Bed
When famous archaeologist Howard Carter discovered King Tut’s tomb in 1922, he also discovered some furniture in his treasury. While this might not sound that exciting compared to everything that was found, it definitely deserves its own mention.
2. A Hidden Chamber
After years of analysis and exploration, researchers believed they had uncovered every secret hidden inside the pyramid of Giza, however in 2017 a new chamber was revealed! This 4500-year-old monument and wonder of the world has much more to share. Researchers used muon detectors, the by-product of cosmic rays to reveal the unidentified chamber.
1. The Two Brothers
In 1907, the findings of two mystery mummies left researchers perplexed for decades, but now, thanks to DNA sequencing, scientist have finally solved the mystery!! The pair’s burial site was discovered in, a village 250 miles south of Cairo. They were found by Egyptian workmen directed
