A Visit to Archer Park Railway Museum, Rockhampton
Built in 1899, Archer Park Railway Station in Rockhampton is now an excellent museum. The collection includes several ex QR locomotives as well as examples of historical coaching stock. Depending on the day, visitors have the opportunity of riding on the unique Purrey Steam Tram or a workman's trolley. Displays include the history of the station and the steam trams that used to serve Rochhampton, as well as signalling and the development of railways in this part of Queensland. Fitted with an amazing sound system and talking mannequins, the museum is well worth visiting. We called in during July 2017.

ARCHER PARK & PURREY STEAM TRAM
Purrey Steam Tram at Archer Park, Rockhampton, Qld. Australia. Built by Valentin Purrey, Bordeaux, France in 1902 and now the only survivor of 9 trams and 6 trailers used from 1909 to 1939 by Rockhampton Municipal Tramways.. The station at Archer Park was the original Rockhampton Railway Station until replaced by a newer one at Denison St. The station building was used by various businesses over the years including a road freight depot.
Australia: Rockhampton’s Steam Tram.
Rockhampton’s original steam tramway operated between 1909 & 1939, after which diesel buses replaced them. The system used French Purrey steam cars.
Today’s tram was reconstructed using some tram parts from the original system and completed in 1988. It is now the major attraction of the Archer Park Rail Museum & operates on some isolated track on Denison Street, adjacent to the North Coast Railway Line.
Archer Park Station was originally Rockhampton’s Central Railway Station.

Aurizon Loco 1733 shunts Rockhampton Marsh Yards
Aurizon 1720 class loco number 1733 shunts the Rockhampton Marsh yards. After pulling forward to set the points 1733 shunts back to catch onto another 12 container wagons and takes them to the Container depot (known to the local railwaymen as Bowls Yard after the street its on Bolsover Street). Unfortunately I couldn't capture the rest of the train being dragged up to Bowls yard because my iPhone was near capacity. 1733 entered service sometime in the mid 1960s (1966/67) and faces withdrawal.
