Samara inside out - Sadovaya st.
Samara is the large city in The Russian Federation. Standing on the Volga river left bank in the middle part of Russia. Samara is a high - contrast town. A big city turns to a small town in center. Its historical center holds exclusive and authentic character.
The quarters of old town of Samara have the ideal geometry points. It helps to measure the distances and open spaces. It points to driving and walking directions – from south to north, from west to east, from Volga river to Samara river. The growth of the built-up area was created by strict town planning controls. Samara’s buildings are too diverse to be characterized by any particular architectural style. There are no the same buildings in the streets. Woody houses had deep groovy carving windows and doors. Brick and stone buildings had expensive exterior items. But getting cheap home care services today. And now some of the landscape has changing in so a little time.
Episode 4. Walking on Sadovaya street in Old town in Samara. Every russian town has the street named Sadovaya (Garden). A Samara street is a typical mix of all street stereotypes. In the beginning, there have been many poor houses at the golden land near Samara river bank. In the end there have been several houses and the most expensive flats. Along the street you can see ancient synagogue, the most unusual military commissariat, the most respectable kindergarten, Samara regional studies museum, one of the oldest russian pasta factories, Valerian Kuibyshev's flat and others.

Samara inside out - Lost in time

Episode 10. Walking on Vladimir Mayakovsky street and Korostelyov Brothers street. Time stands still here. Between modern buildings you can see 19th century woddy houses. Lost in time. And just modern reflections in old windows.
Future Yekaterinburg - Concert hall for Ural Philharmonic Orchestra by Zaha Hadid
Zaha Hadid Architects has won a competition to design the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Concert Hall in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Designed as a new home for the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra, the venue will contain a 1,600-seat concert hall and a smaller 400-seat chamber-music hall.
The two concert halls will be suspended within the steel structure of the building's roof, which takes its form from the shape of sound waves.
Echoing the physical aspects of sound waves, the design of the new philharmonic concert hall is based on the properties of musical sound resonance creating wave vibrations in a continuous smooth surface, said Zaha Hadid Architects.
The design re-interprets these physical acoustic properties to define spaces for the auditoria that are suspended within the canopy, appearing to float above the new civic plaza that is both the lobby of the Philharmonic Concert Hall and an enclosed urban square.
Below the concert halls, a publicly accessible lobby and atrium space will be shaped by the forms of the venues above.
The main features in this lobby are the volumes of the two auditorium, says Christos Passas, project director at Zaha Hadid Architects in a video released by the practice.
The grand auditorium and the smaller auditorium come together to create an inverted topography that signals and signifies the movement of visitors and other guests alike through the public spaces.
The new venue will be built alongside the existing Sverdlovsk Philharmonic building, which it will replace, and the Weiner Gardens. It has been designed to tie the buildings and green spaces on the block together.

Trailer SERGEI TCHOBAN: DREAMS OF FROZEN MUSIC
The exhibition 'Dreams of Frozen Music' at the Tokyo Art Museum presents 30 drawings by Sergei Tchoban. These works are not meant to be the typical drafts for architectural projects. No building is ever being built according to them, they rather can be seen as 'free architectural fantasies'. Tchoban’s aesthetic approach, his visual language and his artistic means seem not to be contemporary but rather timeless. Classical orders of columns, domes of baroque churches and e pre-modernist architecture are being blended into surreal vedutas. A technically brilliant draughtsman, Tchoban employs all kind of materials including ink, water color, red chalk, charcoal and pastel chalk.

Street Water Standpipe in Russia
In Russia, people who don't have a centralized water supply to their residential buildings, have to use the standpipes in the streets. Mostly, those are an old buildings built by very old standards.

Russia (Russian: Росси́я, tr. Rossiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijə]), officially the Russian Federation (Russian: Росси́йская Федера́ция, tr. Rossiyskaya Federatsiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijskəjə fʲɪdʲɪˈratsɨjə]), is a transcontinental country in Eastern Europe and North Asia. At 17,125,200 square kilometres (6,612,100 sq mi), Russia is by a considerable margin the largest country in the world by area, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area, and the ninth most populous, with about 146.77 million people as of 2019, including Crimea. About 77% of the population live in the western, European part of the country. Russia's capital, Moscow, is one of the largest cities in the world and the second largest city in Europe; other major cities include Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod. Extending across the entirety of Northern Asia and much of Eastern Europe, Russia spans eleven time zones and incorporates a wide range of environments and landforms. From northwest to southeast, Russia shares land borders with Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both with Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia and North Korea. It shares maritime borders with Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk and the U.S. state of Alaska across the Bering Strait. However, Russia recognises two more countries that border it, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, both of which are internationally recognized as parts of Georgia.
The East Slavs emerged as a recognizable group in Europe between the 3rd and 8th centuries AD. Founded and ruled by a Varangian warrior elite and their descendants, the medieval state of Rus arose in the 9th century. In 988 it adopted Orthodox Christianity from the Byzantine Empire, beginning the synthesis of Byzantine and Slavic cultures that defined Russian culture for the next millennium. Rus ultimately disintegrated into a number of smaller states; most of the Rus' lands were overrun by the Mongol invasion and became tributaries of the nomadic Golden Horde in the 13th century. The Grand Duchy of Moscow gradually reunified the surrounding Russian principalities and achieved independence from the Golden Horde. By the 18th century, the nation had greatly expanded through conquest, annexation, and exploration to become the Russian Empire, wh ...

(Contemporaneity and con-temporary?)
- опакото на пространството;
- град и село;
- религия и бохема;
- идеология и форма;
- художници и бълдъзи;
- фотография и скулптура;

SUMMARY
=======
Russia (Russian: Росси́я, tr. Rossiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijə]), officially the Russian Federation (Russian: Росси́йская Федера́ция, tr. Rossiyskaya Federatsiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijskəjə fʲɪdʲɪˈratsɨjə]), is a country in Eurasia. At 17,125,200 square kilometres (6,612,100 sq mi), Russia is the largest country in the world by area, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area, and the ninth most populous, with about 144.5 million people as of 2018, excluding Crimea. About 77% of the population live in the western, European part of the country. Russia's capital, Moscow, is the largest metropolitan area in Europe proper and one of the largest cities in the world; other major cities include Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod.
Rus' ultimately disintegrated into a number of smaller states; most of the Rus' lands were overrun by the Mongol invasion and became tributaries of the nomadic Golden Horde in the 13th century. The Grand Duchy of Moscow gradually reunified the surrounding Russian principalities, achieved independence from the Golden Horde. By the 18th century, the nation had greatly expanded through conquest, annexation, and exploration to become the Russian Empire, which was the third largest empire in history, stretching from Poland on the west to Alaska on the east.Following the Russian Revolution, the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic became the largest and leading constituent of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the world's first constitutionally socialist state. The Soviet Union played a decisive role in the Allied victory in World War II, and emerged as a recognized superpower and rival to the United States during the Cold War. The Soviet era saw some of the most significant technological achievements of the 20th century, including the world's first human-made satellite and the launching of the first humans in space. By the end of 1990, the Soviet Union had the world's second largest economy, largest standing military in the world and the largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, twelve independent republics emerged from the USSR: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Baltic states regained independence: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania; the Russian SFSR reconstituted itself as the Russian Federation and is recognized as the continuing legal personality and a successor of the Soviet Union. It is governed as a federal semi-presidential republic.
Russia's economy ranks as the twelfth largest by nominal GDP and sixth largest by purchasing power parity in 2015. Russia's extensive mineral and energy resources are the largest such reserves in the world, making it one of the leading producers of oil and natural gas globally. The country is one of the five recognized nuclear weapons states and possesses the largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. Russia is a great power as well as a regional power and has b ...

A Renaissance theme park: the lost 'garden of marvels' at Pratolino - Prof Philip Steadman
18/01/2018
In the late 16th century, Grand Duke Francesco de Medici had a garden built in the hills near Florence to please his Venetian mistress Bianca Cappello. This park at Pratolino became hugely famous in its time and this lecture will recreate it - taking the audience on a tour of this strange and mythical place.
Midway Gardens, Lost Chicago Frank Lloyd Wright Entertainment Complex
& A Wright Murder Story (for those who read)
Washington Park on Chicago's southside. Located between 50th & 61st and seven blocks wide it serves as a large buffer. On the west is the Washington Park neighborhood which is racked with violence recording 55 murders since 2007 including six along the parks western boundary Martin Luther King Dr. Which is how many were recorded in the entire neighborhood to the east of the Hyde Park. Home of President Obama and the University of Chicago.
It is also the site of the 1893 Columbia Exposition that serves as the backdrop to the Devil In The White City. At the corner of 60th & Cottage Grove is the parks southeast corner where stands the massive sculpture Fountain Of Time which we showed in a previous video. Anyway right across the street once stood Midway Gardens. And by all accounts it was a fantastic piece of eye candy. A real gem that was designed & constructed by Frank Lloyd Wright . What few photos and surviving relics there are hint at the delights offered at this home for the arts that was a work of art.
It was a complex offering taverns, cigar stores, beer halls, dining, dancing, concerts, movies and more. This multi-level in and outdoor facility was built on the site of one of Chicago's first amusement parks. It opened on July 27th 1914 with a performance by the National Orchestra. For the first couple of years Wright booked the entertainment and over the years entertainers from Benny Goodman to Russian ballerina Ana Pavlova entertained there. For awhile the place was a success but the owner of the business Edward Waller fell into financial trouble. In 1916 the Midway Gardens was sold to the Edelweiss Brewery and was renamed the Edelweiss Gardens.
A combination of the first world war then prohibition kept the Gardens from succeeding and it was sold a couple of more times before being demolished in 1929 just fifteen years after opening. As testament to the sturdiness of Wrights construction two companies went out of business and a third took a huge loss destroying the concrete structure. It it's debris were taken to the lake to become break wall.
Not all though as some of the famous sprite statues were saved from destruction.
And a not part of the video bonus
A Frank Lloyd Wright Related Grisly Murder Story
At the same time as the Gardens opened Wright's life had been going through a series of personal setbacks that was capped less than a month after Midway gardens opened. While Wright was in Chicago working on the project an insane employee at Talisman Wright's Wisconsin retreat set fire to the house and slaughtered seven people with an ax when they tried to escape.
Julian Carlton was the name of the man who killed Wright's mistress Martha Mamah Borthwick Cheney her two children and four other Wright workers. Wright had created a huge scandal by having an affair with this married woman who was also a feminist intellectual. Once the affair became public in 1911 he had virtually stopped receiving commissions for new work. Midway gardens was Wright's first big project since he's been blackballed.
The true motive for the murder was never discovered Carlton tried to commit suicide, survived a near lynching only to die of self inflicted starvation after two months without revealing a motive.
Photos are from the National Archive. For more photos & map of the place check out this post.
