Places to see in ( Zaragoza - Spain ) Arco del Dean
The House of the Deán (Arco del Dean) is a building formed by two blocks of room - one of them annexed to the Cathedral or Seo of Saragossa -, united by a corridor on a pointed arch in the street of the Dean of Saragossa and constructed like residence of the prior or dean of the cathedral chapel in the thirteenth century.
Arco del Dean was renovated in the sixteenth century in Plateresque style - Mudéjar , although its graceful gazebo of arquillos was soon covered by ecclesiastical decision of the Cathedral. After the War of Independence and the Sites of Saragossa of 1808, property suffered serious damages, being located next to the General Headquarters of Palafox , with which after its abandonment in 1853, it arrived at the state of ruin. In 1951 it undertook its complete remodeling, that maintained the spirit of the state in which was in 1587.
The Gothic work was culminated in 1293. One of the spaces is attached to the Cathedral or Seo of Zaragoza and communicates by means of an arch with the space of the enlargement of the new house. Initially it was built with the usual Aragonese construction system to include an open market in the larger block. This was the aspect that maintained until the new reform of the XVI century.

The tower of the Zuda of Saragossa is the tower that is in standing of the old palace of the Zuda , Azuda or Sudda, Muslim alcázar located inside the city in which the government was. Its present form is of the second half of century XVI . It is located at the western end of the Plaza del Pilar , behind the Fuente de la Hispanidad and next to the church of San Juan de los Panetes . After the archaeological excavation and the restoration finished in 2001, it shelters a municipal office of tourism.
The tower is in the middle of an area of great archaeological wealth, on the remains of the Roman walls of the city. The walls, more than 7 m thick at some points, with more than 120 towers - some more than 8 m in diameter - and of a length of 3 km, protected a virtually square city. The Zuda was in the northwest corner, next to the river Ebro .
From 714 to 1118 , Saragossa was a Muslim city named Saraqusta . Of privileged position and with a defensive wall famous in the Muslim world; was an important border town, having its own kingdom, taifa de Saraqusta .
The Muslims built close to the wall of the city the stronghold that served as a residence to the governor of the city and was later used by the Taifa king as a winter residence. The tower of La Zuda, corresponds to the tower of the homage of the palace that was built on one of the towers of the wall.
After the Christian takeover of the city in 1118 by the troops of Alfonso I the Battaler , symbolized by the capture of the keep, the building became the royal palace and seat of the kings of Aragon . It was until the thirteenth century , when the palace of the Aljafería was begun .
In 1180 King Alfonso II of Aragon donated the building to the Hospital Order of San Juan de Jerusalén , although maintaining as its own the southern part of the building, next to the old door of Toledo. From that moment it will become a hospital, known as Zuda del Hospital, where the gentlemen welcomed the poor and the sick. Hospitallers would also build a church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist that is not preserved.
From the fourteenth century , the building, which until then was the center of the order in the region of Zaragoza, will become the headquarters of Castellán de Amposta , the highest authority of the order in Aragon . The building also served sporadically to shelter the kings of Aragon, as is the case of Jaime I and his wife Dona Leonor , who were arrested here in 1224 after an uprising of the Aragonese nobles.
In the following centuries the building would undergo several modifications most of which are not documented. The current church of San Juan de los Panetes, built by order of the great Castellán Vicente de Oña , was completed in 1725 and replaced the old medieval church. The tower, which is slightly inclined, is from the 16th century .
