Ardent Hot Spring in Mambajao, Camiguin, Philippines
We toured the Camiguin Island on a windy and cloudy day as you can see in the video. What we anticipated before the start of this tour has now really happened. The Philippines is now in the middle of the “habagat” season or the Summer Monsoon with winds coming from the southwest that bring heavy rains and strong winds. The strong winds produce rough seas and crashing waves that the Philippines Coast Guard do not allow sea vessels to travel from the ports.
The Ardent Hot Spring is located in Barangay Tagdo, Mambajao, Camiguin, Philippines. The temperature of the waters in this hot spring has been changing over the years. There are times when the temperature rises and there are times that the spring water is not hot anymore. The temperature of the water during our visit at the spring is not hot anymore, it can now be described as lukewarm. Years before, it used to be very hot that at first dip you feel like immediately emerging out of the water because it’s like being boiled in hot water. The resort consists of a series of small shallow swimming pools (around 3 to 4 of them?) that stretch out along the linear area that used to be a creek. Along these pools are a series of hot water springs coming out from underneath the rocks. At the time of this video, the relatively hot pool in the area was the one at the lowermost part of the resort.
The hot spring is produced when hot magma from underneath this active volcanic island comes in contact with groundwater and the water is heated and comes unto the surface as spring water. The changing temperature of this particular spring could be due to changes in location of the magma and the amount of groundwater being heated which could probably be dwindling. This area is just a few kilometers at the foot of the active Hibok-hibok Volcano.
We are an Overseas Filipino Worker Family (OFW) living in Canada. It is our first time to come home to the Philippines after leaving the country six years ago. We are touring the beautiful places in the Visayas and Mindanao areas together with our families. This is part of the documentary of our travels.

mindanao diaries; ardent hot? springs resort in camiguin
ardent hot springs....it wasn't hot, it wasn't even luke warm...just slightly warm....and the water level was anemic, most of it was just knee deep! folks blamed el nino for that..... but after a series of cold falls and springs, it was a welcome relief to soothe aching muscles after a day long scooter ride...and if your staying in mambajao, its 1 of the nearest places you could visit.

WE FOUND A SECRET HOT SPRING ON CAMIGUIN ISLAND IN THE PHILIPPINES
I have been to Camiguin Island a few times, and it is always beautiful! This was the first time I was with a big group of Foreign and Filipino friends, all with motorbikes/scooters.
We went on a mission up towards the peaks of the volcanoes, found some amazing views, a tropical jungle, Tuasan Falls, and then a really unique hot spring right on the edge of the ocean...
This was our motorbike adventure on Camiguin one day that turned into finding a secret hot spring!
Power On!

Constant fear is probably what one who resides near an active volcano has to live with every day. That’s especially true when one is in the company of seven volcanoes. Perhaps for the people of Camiguin, though, it has become part of their everyday lives. After all, danger is everywhere no matter where we are and the best way to deal with it is looking on the bright side. Yes, volcanoes, no matter how dangerous they are, have perks, too. Some of these perks come from deep underground — springs!
The island-province of Camiguin is blessed with so many springs — hot and cold. Powered by volcanic activities underneath, these tourist havens are perfect for those who have been longing for some, ironically, peace of mind as the water is sure to relax the body and rejuvenate energy.
Here are some of the spring destinations in this marvelous land of varying temperatures.

Esperanza Tagdo, Mambajao, Camiguin. Arguably the most popular spring places in the whole of Camiguin, Ardent Hibok-Hibok Spring Resort is located in Esperanza Tagdo, Mambajao, Camiguin. More commonly referred to as Ardent Hot Springs, it has several pools that visitors may choose from although the favorite is clearly the warmest, with water about 40 degrees Celsius.

The water in the pool is crystal clear. 40 degrees Celsius, beybeh!

There were too many tourists sharing the pool when we arrived but we still decided to soak in the crystal clear, blue water regardless. As in all the other hot springs we had tried before, the Poor Traveler just soaked and stayed at one comfortable spot. The ideal duration of stay in a hot spring is somewhere between 15-20 minutes. (I think we kind of broke that and stayed longer because we were really enjoying but please don’t do it.) Also, please don’t rub your skin as you might damage it when soaking.
By the way, if 40 degrees is too hot for your body to handle, there are other pools nearby that are less warm. You might want to consider choosing one of them. We also noticed that there were fewer people in “colder” pools.
