Day trips from Dublin - Ardgillan Castle
Ardgillan Castle in Ireland is one of the best day trips from Dubin. The gorgeous home is set amongst spectacular parklands overlooking the Irish Sea. The ‘castle’ is a large eighteenth-century country-style house with magnificent views of Mourne Mountains to the north and Lambay to the south-east.
Ardgillan is a sanctuary for many species of animals, mammals and birds. The park consists of 194 acres of rolling open grassland, mixed woodland and gardens.
Built by Robert Taylor in 1783, ‘Prospect House’ its original name also houses a permanent exhibition of 17th century ‘Down Survey’ maps of Ireland.
This sprawling estate features a walled and a rose garden dating back to the 1800s. The Walled Garden was originally a Victorian-styled kitchen garden and was a source for fruit, vegetables and flowers for the house.
Today, Ardgillan Castle is a popular visitor attraction with a range of facilities including castle tours, garden tours, afternoon tea, children’s parties, theatre events and more. You can also host special events like weddings here.

Source Wikipedia:
The castle consists of two storeys over a basement, which extends under the south lawns. When occupied, the ground and first floors were the living accommodation while the west and east wings were servants quarters and estate offices. The basement was the service floor, the kitchen and stores. The castle has now been restored and is open to visitors.
Ardgillan Demesne is also open to visitors, with a mix of woodlands and large grass open spaces. The park contains a walled herb garden, rose garden, Victorian conservatory or glasshouse, tea rooms and an ice house. A children's playground was added in 2006.
