2012 Ceramic Art of Andrea Chutick.wmv
Andrea Chutick, Artist, 1948-2012
Andrea used to say that the best neighborhoods for New Yorkers are Park Slope, Brooklyn and Milford, Connecticut, where she lived.
In a typical fashion, she was vocal and unequivocal.
And so is her art.
Andrea combines raw natural surface earth tones alongside color-rich shiny glazed surfaces. These surfaces are often lightened by her pattern designs which reveal the whimsical aspects of various popular ceremonial vases and animals.
Eye-catching is the realization that many works take on anthropomorphic forms with Egyptian and Native American influence.
Andrea studied with Therese Bimka, Ceramic Artist who was teaching at a studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn in the 1990's. She recalls Andrea's distinctive use of the patterned glazed areas in sky blue, greens and Indian yellow to be in relief form, enhancing the structural impact.

the great ceramics artist Ionica Les
A suggestive film about the work of Ionica Les, a country side boy who went to the city and trained as a potter with a wellknown hungarian potter in those days named Bagosi. Later on he studied fine arts painting with some of the grate masters of the international known BAIA MARE SCHOOL OF PAINTING, similar to barbizon.
His artistic spirit lead him to combine pottery with art. (all of the statuettes are empty on the inside all beeing first made on the potters wheel)
In the year 2000, exactly when he got to the age of 50 he won the 1st prize and the big prize at the Klagenfurt international ceramics fair. Happy enough and very modest, he won't go in the next years having the international confirmation of his talent.
Many have tried to copy him but none of them created something of their own or worthy of appreciation, ending up falling in KITSCH.
He doesn't like to make a big fuss out of it and he doesn't even know about this video, you wont get to see him among fussy people.
