Moorea, French Polynesia - Aremiti Ferry 2 Departure HD (2017)
Mo'orea is a high island in French Polynesia, one of the Windward Islands, part of the Society Islands, 17 kilometres (11 mi) northwest of Tahiti. The true spelling of Mo'orea is Mo'ore'a, which means yellow lizard in Tahitian: Mo'o = lizard ; Re'a = Yellow. An older name for the island is 'Aimeho, sometimes spelled 'Aimeo or 'Eimeo (among other spellings given by early visitors before Tahitian spelling was standardized). Early Western colonists and voyagers also referred to Mo'orea as York Island.
Aremiti Ferry to Moorea from Tahiti
There are two ferries/catamaran that goes to Moorea from Tahiti. We were on was the fast one that only takes 30min. The other that you can see on the video is much bigger and takes about an hour with limited daily excursions, you can see us gaining rapidly on the other one. It gets very choppy and windy, and the ferry back to Tahiti, we experienced some very nice swells! It was a nice ride despite the wind, and made me ponder about how people did this a century ago on huge ships, and the Tahitians with their tiny canoes....amazing ocean....amazing culture! Thanks for viewing. 5/23/2012

TAHITI ????️| DRIVING TOUR to MUSIC | TEAHUPOO beach | AREMITI CAR FERRY back to MOOREA
This video begins with us disembarking off the Aremiti car ferry from MOOREA then showing parts of our coastal loop drive around the entire island of Tahiti, including walking stops for photos (approx 5.5-hours). The island of Tahiti has two parts: the larger, northwestern part of the island is called Tahiti Nui, and the smaller, southeastern part is called Tahiti Iti. We rented a car at AVIS across from the ferry dock on Mo'orea (pronounced mo-oh-RAY-ah), and we boarded the ferry in Mo'orea with our rental car at 6:00am (:30-minute ferry ride arriving approx. 6:30am). Our drive included stops for photos in a few spots, including the beach at Teahupo'o village which has a distant view of the iconic surf wave by the same name. Big wave surfers from across the globe surf at Teahupo'o, located on the Tahiti Iti section of the island. According to an article on surfertoday.com ( Teahupoo is one of the heaviest and most powerful waves in the world
Many in North America pronounce it CHOpoo or CHOPES, but there is not a ch sound in Polynesian. The article designates three components to the name:
te (Tahitian/Polynesian) = the (English)
ahu (Tahitian/Polynesian) = pile, central stone, raised platform, mound, altar, heap (English)
po'o (Tahitian/Polynesian) = head, front end, director, father (English)
Loosely translated as the pile of heads, the heap of heads, or the hot head.
Teahupo'o is on Transworld Surf's list of the 'Top 10 Deadliest Waves'. Check out videos of the wave on YouTube, it's an iconic, legendary wave for the best surfers in the world and the brave at heart ????♂️

Lounge | French Polynesia Vlog #6
Come along with us as we ride 11 miles northwest from Papeete to the island of Moorea on the Terevau Ferry. We go for a day trip and cruise around the entire island in a electric car from Avis (E-Moke). We do some sightseeing and eat an epic lunch including COCONUT CRAB!! Then we ride the Aremiti Ferry 2 back to Papeete and head up the mountain to Pamatai Hills. Maya is sick on the final day of this French Polynesia trip, so we stay close to home and relax by the pool. Once at the airport, we stop by the Air Tahiti Nui Lounge before our overnight flight back to Hawaii on Hawaiian Airlines. Thank you so much for watching!
Happy New Year 2020!
