Columbus Neighborhoods: Downtown
On this episode of Columbus Neighborhoods, we take a look at the past and present development of downtown Columbus. We sat down with Amy Taylor of Columbus Downtown Development Corporation to discuss recent changes and what's next for the neighborhood. Then we visit the LeVeque Tower to learn about the renovation of Columbus' first skyscraper. Architectural historians Jeff Darbee and his wife Nancie Recchie walk us through the historic renovation of their Town Street home. Plus, a visit to the Ohio History Connection provides a glimpse at Lazarus memorabilia.
Columbus, Ohio
Recorded September 5, 2016
On Labor Day I set out on a 39 day trip to the Eastern U.S. and Canada. Monday was mainly a driving day, but I did make a short stop in downtown Columbus, Ohio where I took a short walk around the Statehouse.
This is the first of many videos to come from my Northeast road trip. Check back for the latest videos.

Downtown Columbus Riverfront
The winner of the 2016 National Planning Excellence Award for Implementation is the Downtown Columbus Riverfront plan by the City of Columbus and Columbus Downtown Development Corporation.
Restoring the Scioto River provided more than just improving public access to the riverfront. It spurred community reinvestment and created five new downtown parks, removed two low-head dams, restored the riverfront ecosystem and revitalized adjacent neighborhoods. These investments have helped to grow downtown's residential population 108 percent since 2002.

Places to see in ( Columbus - USA )
Places to see in ( Columbus - USA )
Columbus is Ohio’s state capital. The city’s Scioto Mile is a string of parks on both sides of the Scioto River, with a huge interactive fountain and trails. On the west bank, the COSI science center offers hands-on exhibits and a planetarium. Downtown, the Columbus Museum of Art includes American and European paintings and a sculpture garden. The German Village area has restored brick houses built by 1800s settlers.
Columbus is the capital of the American state of Ohio and is located centrally within the state in the Mid-Ohio region. Sited in an area where the Rust Belt, Bible Belt, Appalachia, and the Plains meet, Columbus is a fusion of many different parts of America. It is the home of Ohio State University. The combination of Ohio Government and Ohio State University has fueled amazing growth both financially and physically in Columbus. It has created a business and research enviroment that has provided substantial employment opportunities to the diverse ethnic and local graduates of Ohio State University, and other academic institutions in Columbus. The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC), is projected to be one of the top 50 supercomputers in the world and among the top 10 supercomputing academic centers.

What Ohio's capital city (and largest city) lacks in mega sights and wild quirks it makes up for with unexpected food and arts scenes. Better yet, Columbus is easy on the wallet, an influence from Ohio State University's 59,000-plus students (the campus is the nation's second largest). A substantial gay population also has taken up residence in Columbus in recent years.
Named after the Italian explorer who sailed under the Spanish flag (In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue), this city is the largest in Ohio in terms of population with 787,033, and the 15th largest city in the United States—though with only 1.7 million people, the metropolitan statistical area is relatively small (the 31st largest in the nation and the 3rd of 4th largest in Ohio). Major area employers are state government (as the state capital), Ohio State University (the largest student population in the nation) and numerous Fortune 500 companies headquartered here (Cardinal Health, Nationwide Insurance, Limited Brands, etc.). It is a day's drive from one half of the U.S. population and is located at the intersection of I-70 and I-71.
