Pertencia - Touring the UK March 2011
Foursight Theatre & Teatro do Montemuro present
Pertencia
The butcher baby's tale
A co-production with The Courtyard, Herefordshire's Centre For The arts
Pertencia is a wetnurse.
She works for The Butcher.
For his is no ordinary shop and he is no ordinary butcher.
Created by Foursight Theatre and Portugal's Teatro do Monetemuro, this brand new play tells the story of Pertencia. Abandoned outside The Butcher's shop as a young child, she now weaves stories to avoid confronting the harsh world in which she finds herself and the dark secrets of her past.
A cast of six actors from the two companies portray a host of vivid characters and mix a fusion of languages: Portuguese, English, live music, song and physical imagery. By turns lyrical and grotesque, poignant and funny, the production moves between the real and fantastical as Pertencia discovers the reality of The Butcher's business, the truth about herself and where she really belongs.
The production is supported by The Sir Barry Jackson Trust and Arts Council England.

So Many Reasons by Racheal Ofori
My Mum said to me
‘if you ever have children, don’t have girls.
They give you too much of a headache.’
So Many Reasons is a story about the unique influence our mothers have on how we understand the world, from the perspective of a first generation British Ghanaian woman. Exploring cultural and generational shifts, religion and sexuality, this bold new show asks what happens when we realise mums don’t always know best.
So Many Reasons is created by Racheal Ofori. Ofori’s previous show Portrait was a critical success, touring extensively, appearing at the Southbank Centre (Women of the World Festival, 2015) and broadcast on BBC.
Co-presented with Camden People’s Theatre and supported by Jerwood Charitable Foundation through the Home Run Commission. Funded by Arts Council England and the Leche Trust. Development supported by Ovalhouse.
