The Unspoiled Beauty of Lake Arenal Costa Rica
InternationalLiving.com In Costa Rica's northern highlands, Lake Arenal is a tranquil and unspoiled region known for its rural lifestyle and small town feel. Expats from around the world come to enjoy a slower pace of life... and amazing lake views.
Rainbow Bay Estates - Lake Arenal Costa Rica
Welcome to our community video. For those who know the wonderful Lake Arenal region, most agree that Rainbow Bay Estates has the finest living spot on the entire lake. We have the best weather, security, large bird and monkey populations, and the largest colony of Oropendola hanging bird nests we've heard of. This website shares our story and attributes, and we thank you for checking us out.
We're a 13 year-old residential community on 33 acres overlooking the heart of Rainbow Bay. With many new owners, there's lots of vitality and investment underway. We have 9 condos and a small guest house on the lakeshore, a 14 -boat modular dock, a member's area, and 19 single-family 'lake-view' lots on the hills above.
Lake Arenal is one of the world's most stunning fresh water lakes. It abounds in tropical delights, with ideal year-round air and water temperatures. Living anywhere around Lake Arenal is magical, but the Rainbow Bay area is one of the finest locations of all. While the lake's eastern half gets the most rain (cloud forest effect) and its western end the strongest winds, its northwest shore by Rainbow Bay gets the best weather of all. This weather explains why and how.
We're surrounded by dense jungle with rich flora and fauna on all sides. We have a low-density design with thousands of mature ornamental plants and fruit trees for a 'garden of eden' feel. After thirteen years of care, our flowers and fruit trees attract many birds, including the largest hanging bird nest colony of Oropendola birds in Costa Rica. Each year, over one hundred 4'-long hanging bird nests adorn a large tree by our condos. We enjoy frequent howler and white-face monkeys too.
Our buildings are built with quality materials and workmanship. You won't find cheap metal studs, drywall or masonite here. Everything is built to stand the test of time, and it shows.
Our member's area has stunning plants and flowers, and always bird and monkey sounds. By the pool are 2 tennis courts, a party-room, and covered barbecue area. One tennis court is covered so tennis can be played all year. Our high-tech composite dock can handle 14 boats.
We are very private and secure. Our electronic is locked each day at 3pm. Our half-mile entrance drive winds down steep hills and ravines to dead-end at the lake. It's lined with exotic plants and flowers, and when you descend, the sounds of man fade away. Yet with steep hills, thick jungle and amazing nature all around, the quaint town of Nuevo Arenal is just 5 minutes away.
Many new members have joined us recently. Since 2012, four condos, three houses and three lots have sold. With these recent sales, four new homes are starting in 2014. At this rate, Rainbow Bay Estates will be sold out in a couple of years. Two lots, two condos and a spec house are currently for sale.
No place on Lake Arenal has the consistent weather, abundant nature and easy lake access that we have - why best. So if you like to boat, fish, swim, kayak, bike, play tennis, hike or enjoy monkeys and birds, please contact us. And if you want to change your lifestyle to live longer, you should definitely contact us.

Lake Arenal 3.wmv
Lale Arenal Costa Rica is a unique 50 square mile pristine fresh water Lake situated in the mountains of north central Costa Rica at an elevation of approximately 1500 feet. It is without question one of the most beautiful, yet undiscovered areas in all of Central America. One of the most unique features of the Lake is the 5000 foot active volcano on the eastern shore of the Lake which has small eruptions day and night and provides a spectacular fireworks show every day.
Unlike the dry, flat, very hot coastal areas of Costa Rica, Lake Arenal is lush, cool and almost insect free, with a mean average temperature of 75 degrees, yet Lake Arenal is conveniently located only 2 hours from the beaches and the Liberia International Airport, and 3 hours from the capital, San Jose.
Lake Arenal is only now being discovered and the real estate prices and values present excellent opportunities, especially compared to the Central Valley, San Jose area and the coastal areas, which are many times more expensive, and in many cases crowded, badly planned, traffic congested and overdeveloped.
Costa Rica, which is only hours away via direct flights to many cities in the United States and Europe, already has the highest per capita of American citizens living in any foreign country in the world. It is also the most stable and prosperous of all Central and South American countries, and has many of the conveniences that Americans are used to such as modern shopping malls and good, reliable utilities.
Tours running continuously, chill week ends, discounts at our Boutique Hotel and fine Restaurant Gingerbread

Nuevo Arenal in Costa Rica - Adventure Guru
Lake Arenal is enormous and stunning. This video captures the views from the quaint little town Nuevo Arenal (45 min drive from La Fortuna and the hot springs). There are views of the volcano from other areas of the lake closer to La Fortuna (weather permitting). About 20 minutes west of La Fortuna you'll see kayaks available for rent alongside the lake.
ADA: The lake access pictured here is through an unnamed park that has hard pack ground that is a bit lumpy but otherwise can be wheeled through. There are grades 5-10% by best guess and they get much steeper if you want to make your way down to the water.
