Exploring Arima Onsen & Kobe Chinatown|Day 66 - Hyogo
Nankinmachi is a compact chinatown in central Kobe and a center of the Chinese community in the Kansai Region. The area was developed by Chinese merchants who settled near Kobe Port after the port was opened to foreign trade in 1868. As the chinatown developed, it became known as Nankinmachi after Nanjing, the former Chinese capital. Nankinmachi is a popular tourist attraction and shopping and dining district.
Arima Onsen (有馬温泉) is a famous hot spring town within the city limits of Kobe, but on the opposite side of Mount Rokko from the city center. The town lies in a natural mountain setting, yet is close enough for Kobe and Osaka residents as an easy and popular day trip or weekend getaway.

ARIMA ONSEN & CHINA TOWN: Kobe, Japan (Day 2 and 3!)
We went to our first Japanese Onsen (hot spring) Town! It's one of the oldest in Japan at over one thousand years old! We were lucky enough to find a tattoo-friendly onsen. Onsen here have two types of water: Gold and Silver. We bathed in the iron-rich Gold Water.
It was such a beautiful town to explore! We also enjoyed a traditional Japnese meal of Okonomiyaki, and headed back to Kobe's city center to explore their China Town (Nankinmachi)! Kobe has a large population of Chinese immigrants which lead to an amazing China Town! It's the 2nd largest one in Japan! We got to eat some local, handmade soup dumplings (in an incredibly embarrassing manner)!
For our last day in Kobe, we explored the Harbour area and tried Kobe Beef for the first time (but you'll have to wait for that video to see it). (^_^)

Kobe - SHOPPING STREETS
Shopping in Kobe is ubiquitous but luckily it’s all within walking distance. When you first arrive at Sannomiya Station, you’ll be greeted by department stores like SOGO and OIOI where you can get many luxury fashion items. But if you’re into more the local shopping scene then it’s a must to venture into the shopping streets, also known as shotengai.
Kobe KYUKYORYUCHI
When Kobe it’s international port in 1868, this foreign settlement was constructed. Designed by British Civil engineers the 126 blocks were auctioned to western foreigners. 70% of the buildings were destroyed after the World War II air raids in 1945. Kobe city decided preserved the remaining buildings as cultural properties.

Japanese Hot SpringsArima part.1【有馬温泉】
Arima Onsen (Hot Springs) is right on the back side of Rokko Mountain where I live. I often visit there with my family and when ever someone comes for a visit, we are certain to take them to Arima at least once! Arima Onsen is one of the oldest hot springs in Japan and often appears in written histories about Japan. The many natural minerals and ingredients found in the waters there are rare worldwide and are really wonderful for ones body. From the many temples and shrines to the beautiful, narrow, old town streets, the entire area is really a wonderful place to walk around and visit.

I have been in Japan now for a bit over 20 years. My interest in Japan started with Origami when I was 5 years old and after coming here in High School, I just could not stop coming back. I have enjoyed traveling all over Japan and studying many of the traditional arts such as Kimono, Tea Ceremony, Kendo and Kyudo. The more I see and learn the more I come to understand how much more there is to find out about. Japan really is a wonderful place to visit or live. I hope these videos give a taste of what one can do here, encourage those that have yet to visit, and give new ideas for people looking to try something new and interesting here. Yokoso!

Exploring Japan - Kobe
First video blog in Japan. I explored the town of KOBE
Where I went::
- Meriken Park
- Sannomiya shrine
- Ikuta shrine
- Mount Rokko
Top tips:
- To visit Mount Rokko, take the 'Hanshin line' from Sannomiya station to 'Mikage station' then take the no.16 bus to 'Rokko cable shita'. From there you can pay to take a return cable car up (which I did) or then grab another bus to go even higher.
- Get an 'Icoca' card from Sannomiya station for any underground or buses. Much easier than using cash.

City in Japan
Kobe is a city on Osaka Bay in central Japan. It is known for it's signature marbled beef and scenic setting of mountains framing the harbor.
The Ikuta Shrine, dating to the 3rd century, is among Japan's oldest Shinto shrines. Antique cable cars connect Kobe to Mt. Rokko, which offers panoramic views over the port. Beyond the Mount Rokko hills are the outdoor hot springs of Arima Onsen.

The best hidden spots in Kobe, Japan!
There are so many interesting spots in Kobe Japan, but this is such an amazing spot!
This is a video of our visit to Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens and Ropeway.
It was shot on November 2017. They had a Christmas theme going on that time. The weather wasn't that good when we were there, and yet we enjoyed it a lot. Imagine what you would get on a good day!
They change their themes from time to time, so you better check on their website about the event that is going at the time of your visit.
Kobe Nunobiki link :
The place is beautiful, relaxed, and most importantly not packed with people like many other tourist spots in Japan. In saying that, I have never been here on a cherry blossom season, so I can't say about the traffic for that time. If you enjoy walking and you love to be in the nature, you would want to check this place out!
Thank you for watching and visiting this channel. Please subscribe if you haven't done so. See you on the next video.

「Mt.Rokko and Kobe Harborland」 しゅま旅 in Kobe ①
【Shuma Tabi I Travel Japan with Shuma】
In this episode of Shuma Tabi, we visited Kobe.
The good thing about Kobe is that it has both mountain and sea.
Its culture is very unique because of the Kobe Port.
It opened in January 1 1868, and became an entrance to the world again. Kobe became full of international atmosphere and enterprising spirits, and Kobe had its own unique culture and grew up.
