Arkle Memorial Statue Unveiling
We all remember Arkle, he caught the imagination of so many people during his racing career and 50 years on from his first Cheltenham Gold cup he is still capturing our hearts. We went to Ashbourne in Co. Meath for the unveiling of his memorial statue and spoke to some of the people who knew Arkle best and also the people who made Arkle's homecoming happen.

Arkle's Unveiling Ashbourne Co. Meath 19 / 4 / 2014
A statue of Arkle was unveiled by Tom Taaffe whose father Pat Taaffe was Arkle's jockey and also by Jim Dreaper whose father trained Arkle at Kilsallaghan, Co. Dublin. Ashbourne is on the Dublin/Meath border, Arkle is considered the greatest steeplechaser ever.

The legendary racehorse, Arkle was commemorated with a permanent monument in Ashbourne, Co Meath Ireland when a bronze sculpture by Emma McDermott of the champion steeplechaser and his regular jockey, Pat Taaffe was unveiled on Saturday.19/4/2014 to a huge crowd in Ashbourne.

A site survey. St. Oswald church is located in the village of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, England. Built around 1240 AD which replaced a previous Saxon church. Ashbourne church has some fine examples of Georgian and Victorian Gravestones.
