Crossing Arklow Town.
Arklow is a town in County Wicklow on the east coast of Ireland, overlooked by Arklow Hill. Founded by the Vikings in the ninth century, Arklow was the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the 1798 rebellion.
Arklow's proximity to Dublin led to it becoming a thriving commuter town with a population of 14,080 at the 2011 census, making it the third largest town in the county.
Arklow is at the mouth of the River Avoca (formerly Avonmore), the longest river wholly within County Wicklow. The town is divided by the river, which is crossed by the Nineteen Arches Bridge, a stone arch bridge linking the southern or main part of the town with the northern part, called Ferrybank. The Nineteen Arches Bridge is the longest handmade stone bridge in Ireland and is considered a famous landmark. The plaque on the south end of the bridge is testimony to this.

There is a beautiful graveyard on the outskirts of Arklow Town. I was quite taken by one of the sites there. A massive masonic pyramid out in the fields.

Arklow Municipal District – Making a Difference
Arklow is the principal town in the Municipal District which also includes Rathdrum, Aughrim, Redcross and Avoca.
Accessibility to the district is excellent and the recently upgraded M11 means that we have either dual carriageway or motorway for the length of the county, making Arklow easy to get to, just over an hour from Dublin airport.
Bus Éireann and Wexford Bus provide regular services that link Arklow with Wexford, Dublin City and Dublin Airport.
Also, Arklow is well-served by daily rail freight and intercity passenger train services between Dublin and Rosslare Europort.
A range of Enterprise and Business parks is available throughout the Arklow Municipal District and there is a thriving business community served by an active Chamber of Commerce.
Arklow is currently host to a variety of manufacturing and service industries typified by multi-nationals such as Servier Pharmaceuticals, Gaines Europe, Elavon Financial Services, Glenhaven Foods, Woodfab Timber, Arklow Shipping and Arklow Marine among others.
Within this district, there is a significant land-bank available for economic development and our Economic Development unit can support any business, large or small, wishing to become established in the area.
We have recently invested in, and upgraded our water facilities and will have our new wastewater treatment plant in place in a couple of year’s time.
The Arklow Bank Wind Park was Ireland’s first off-shore ‘green energy’ wind project in 2004 and this delivers wind-generated electricity to 18,000 households per year. Future Phase 2 proposals seek to increase significantly the extent and energy generating potential of this project.
Arklow has the latest telecommunications technology with 4G coverage and fibre broadband; a prerequisite for modern business.
For any company choosing to relocate their business to Arklow, they can expect:
• State-of-the-art facilities
• Excellent road and rail infrastructure
• Good public transport services
• A very affordable place to live for employers and employees alike
• Welcome and support from Arklow Municipal District
