ITALY: MILAN: GIORGIO ARMANI SHOWS 1997 SPRING/SUMMER COLLECTION
Italian/Nat
One of Italy's most famous designers joined forces with one of the world's greatest guitarists to bring Milan fashion week to a close.
Giorgio Armani showed off his Spring/Summer 1997 collection to music written especially by Eric Clapton.
And Alberta Ferretti attempted to buck the Milan fashion trend by showing that seduction doesn't have to mean that women bare all.
With a company worth $300 million dollars a year, 62-year-old Giorgio Armani is a cut above the crowd.
His clothes express the quintessence of traditional Italian fashion: beautiful quality, high- price tags and conservative styling. He insists that his clothes are for sophisticated people with more on their mind than appearance.
The music for the fashion show has been specially composed by Eric Clapton for Giorgio Armani. But, on this occasion, the rock star gave up centre stage to the clothes and instead took a seat in the front row.
The designer's collections for Spring/Summer 1997 address the sophisticated woman's urge to escape conventions, to interpret her expressive potential, to wear something that seems to be specifically designed for her alone.
The silhouettes enfold the body without excessive constriction; a love of Oriental refinement; exactingly researched, precious fabrics; details to be enjoyed and worn in a particularly personal way.
Fabrics are the principal players of the collection: sophisticated and light, sometimes translucent, with textured surface effects or glossy with a shimmering iridescence and shot with gold thread.
The material embraces lightweight linen and silk knits, feather-light shiny shantung, satin, double organza, silk and linen candy.
The jackets clothe the body without constricting it; buttonless jackets worn over the skin; fluid little kimono-cut jackets; duster-length shirt-jackets. Dresses cut close to the body, but not too tight, often finished with subtle knitted details.
Lots of transparencies in line with the trend of this season, and also spaghetti-strap shoulders.
Grey tones, for which Giorgio Armani owes his inspiration to the works of Anish Kapoor, the Indian sculptor. But also strong, incisive, vital colours.
For the evening, delicate and sophisticated embroidery accentuates the tones of a printed fabric; tattoo-effect embroidery highlights translucency.
Alberta Ferretti has been defined one of the most solvent female fashion designers.
She held her first fashion show in Milan in 1981, and nowadays she is known all over the world.
Different lengths of material descend gradually towards the ankle, sliding effortlessly over covered legs.
And again in line with all the other shows, lots of transparencies but with an effort to stay away from the trendy nude look of this season.
SOUNDBITE: (Italian)
It is true that this season we've talked about transparencies, petticoats, I have tried to go against the trend but at the same time, keeping in mind the needs of women and so offering layers of transparencies.
SUPER CAPTION: Alberta Ferretti, Designer
Light featherweight suede for square cut jackets or the little coatdress made in heavy silk. Like a fan of colour tones bleached by the sun: from white to ecru to water-colours splashed with black or paired with solid black.

Milan City. Welcome to the World of Luxury Shopping!
Milan is definitely a shoppers paradise, especially if you are into high-end Italian brands like Gucci, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Etro, Fendi, etc. Just across the Giorgio Armani Hotel in downtown Milan, you will find Via Montenapoleone. Via Montenapoleone is the most exclusive shopping street in Milan. Make sure to visit, if you have plenty of cash to spend Lol Anyway, it is an interesting place to visit even if you are not planning to buy anything. From Montenapoleone Street, I walked to the Ferrari store which is located in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. So you can also enjoy some amazing buildings along the way!

Milan Italy - Timelapse & Hyperlapse EA7 Emporio Armani Milano Marathon 4K

ITALY: GIORGIO ARMANI COLLECTION CLOSES MILAN FASHION SHOW
Natural Sound
Italian designer Giorgio Armani closed the Milan Fashion Show Sunday with a collection firmly stamped in his own unique style.
Bearing little resemblance to most looks seen this past week, Armani departed from his traditional accent on daytime, devoting most of his display to evening wear instead with the emphasis on black.
Giorgio Armani doesn't follow trends, he sets them.
It was no surprise therefore that his collection, which closed the autumn-winter 1997- 1998 preview showings, differed from the other fashion parties which preceded him.
Armani has his own agenda and his latest collection is a class act.
Ultra-precious fabrics, minute detailing and couture cutting combine to give his outfits a rich but never glitzy look.
This brazen glamour is a novelty for Armani, whose classic tailoring put the moda Milanese on the fashion map several decades ago.
In fact, departing from his traditional accent on daytime, three-quarters of Sunday's show in the new ground floor theatre of his downtown Milan palazzo was devoted to evening wear - a further sign that Armani was thinking luxury.
Black is the mainstay for this sophisticated look, both in the long-lined daytime suits with close-fitting jacket and straight down trouser as well as the intricately beaded evening wear.
Earlier Sunday Alberta Ferretti presented her winter collection, by far the most feminine of the minimalist lobby.
While it was pared-down in shape, and quiet in colour, the look was of a childlike innocence reminiscent of the drawings in a old-fashioned children's book.
Little white slip dresses were worn on their own or over silk pants and delicately embroidered top.
A velvet jacket was stitched in the same smocking one can find on a little girl's party dress.
Delicate chiffon aprons covered a velvet dress or became a demure top to be paired with a silk pant suit.
Lace abounded and tiny pearl beading created a fairytale effect.
Flat velvet mules were pointed and embroidered like those of a princess.
Also Sunday, Antonio Fusco showed a collection which is sure to satisfy those who still look to Milan for tailored clothing, and are having a hard time finding it these days.

ARMANI STAYS WITH THE TRIED AND TRUE
Milan, Italy Engcomm/Natsot Duration: 1.24
Giorgio Armani, the most commercial of Milan's top fashion designers, has staged the final showing of his Spring-Summer '96 collection. Price tags vary from 20 US dollars for a t-shirt to 20,000 for an Armani evening gown but somehow, the familiar soft, taylored style seems to transcend financial figures. Quite stubbornly, Armani refuses to follow changing fashion trends yet, each collection subtly does something a bit new, and always different from what everyone else is showing. This season, the 1960's era with its dropped, hip-hugger waistlines is all the rage in his Emporio collection.
SHOWS:
(MILAN, ITALY) Catwalk with first model in trouser suit. Pin-stripe grey trousers, white jersey long-sleeve top. Bra under see-through top. Teamed with soft trousers. Simple, below-knee summer dresses. Floral print. Black and White one-piece swim suits. Full-skirted black embroidered evening dress. Slim-line evening dress with black skirt and white bodice. Evening outfit with back shoe-string straps and full skirt. Slimline floral evening dress with back straps. Two floral dresses with full. Floaty skirts. Armani takes a bow.
