My definition of Communism is 'the system that kills humanity in man.' They succeeded in that in killing that feeling of caring for the other people. Family for Armenians came first. They would sacrifice everything for their family... in the past. Sister Arousiag (Director of the Our Lady of Armenia Centre).
Lying just south of the Caucasus Mountains, Armenia serves as a bridge to Asia, and according to legend, it where Noah's Ark came to rest on the peak of Mount Ararat. Armenia was also the first country to adopt Christianity as early as 301 AD. But it is also a country of great suffering; crushed and defeated over the centuries by powerful neighbours including Persia, The Roman and Ottoman Empires, and finally the Soviet regime. Today a clear majority of Armenian's live beyond Armenia's borders. For the 4% of Catholics remaining among the total population of 3.3 million, the situation is dire. Unemployment stands at nearly ninety percent and there are precious few signs of any improvement any time soon, whilst in the meantime empty factories decay and fall into ruin. The Church too was gutted, with many religious buildings destroyed or converted into warehouses. Into this apparent despair stepped Sr. Arousiag, bringing faith, hope and practical solutions to the daily challenges faced by those most marginalised -- the children.

A Burned Out Church In Tbilisi, Georgia
I don't know the name of this church or what happened as I just stumbled across it while exploring the back neighborhoods of Tbilisi. However, I was fascinated by the visual impact of the interior - the crypts exposed by fire, the mountains of burned bibles on the floor, etc.

STORYLINE:
Georgians in the capital Tbilisi went to church on Sunday as usual, attending Orthodox Christian services across the capital.
At the Holy Trinity cathedral, the Georgian Patriarch, Ilya II, conducted the service, during which he condemned the continuing Russian occupation of Georgia and said that he was praying that peace would come soon to his country.
Meanwhile hundreds of Georgian internally displaced people from Gori and Kaspi region have found the shelter in a refugee camp on the outskirts of Tbilisi.
People pray they will be able to return to their homes soon.
I hope with the help of the God we will return to our homes, said Manana, an internally displaced woman from the Kaspi region.
The Georgia-Russia war has left hundreds of people dead or missing, and the United Nations said the conflict has displaced about 100-thousand civilians in Georgia and South Ossetia.
Russian forces poured into South Ossetia from Russia last week to repel a Georgian offensive, leading to a war between Russia and Georgia.
The United States and France have charged that Russia is defying a cease-fire deal it signed with Georgia in the 11-day-old conflict, but Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Sunday that Russian troops will begin pulling back towards South Ossetia on Monday.
