Meet Allen Armstrong: A Soybean Farmer from South Charleston, Ohio
In this video, Allen Armstrong describes the best thing about being a farmer. According to Allen, the best thing about being a farmer is that we care for the environment and our fields just as much as someone would care for their garden. As a farmer, I am very concerned about the environment and work hard at being the best steward of the land as possible while at the same time helping to provide the U.S. and the world with a safe and abundant food supply.

Onion Growing Season ancestral wild vegetable
cebolla Onion
The onion (Allium cepa) (Latin 'cepa' = onion), also known as the bulb onion or common onion, is used as a vegetable and is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Allium. This genus also contains several other species variously referred to as onions and cultivated for food, such as the Japanese bunching onion (A. fistulosum), the Egyptian onion (A. ×proliferum), and the Canada onion (A. canadense). The name wild onion is applied to a number of Allium species but A. cepa is exclusively known from cultivation and its ancestral wild original form is not known, although escapes from cultivation have become established in some regions.
The onion is most frequently a biennial or a perennial plant, but is usually treated as an annual and harvested in its first growing season.
The onion plant has a fan of hollow, bluish-green leaves and the The crop is prone to attack by a number of pests and diseases, particularly the onion fly, the onion eelworm and various fungi that cause rotting.

TRANSCRIPT:
LANCE ARMSTRONG: When and if you are elected president and you elect your cabinet, I think it's important, I understand that this is our family, the United States of America is our family. This is how much we make, this is how much we get to spend, we can spend it on wars overseas, we can spend it on diseases, we can spend it on highways. However, and I understand we have to work within the parameters of that budget, however, to me it's easy to understand the significance of this disease when you just look at the toll it takes on American lives. You can look at the emotional and the human toll, 560,000 Americans die every year, and this just keeps clicking and clicking and clicking, it costs our economy 213 billion dollars, and we're spending 5. This makes no economic sense. Meanwhile, 560,000 Americans will not go home next year. That makes no sense morally. [...] You can look at how we allocate money per death, in the United States of America and cancer is underfunded. And then you can look under the umbrella of cancer and say where are we spending our money with regards to the fight against cancer? And you realize that lung cancer is underfunded. And it's underfunded because it's an orphan disease, people say you smoked, it was your choice. But I think we must look at the entire problem, allocate where it effects us the most. [...] I think we have to prioritize what this disease and what certain sets of diseases, how they impact our society.
MCCAIN: I think I'm in total agreement with you. And one of my opening comments, when I talked about I would support increases, we have to make the right kind of decisions and prioritizing. But I'd also like to point out to you that what we also need to do is scrutinize every agency of government and those that are not doing the things they were supposed to do, we should abolish those. One of the things about beurocracies is that once they're established they seem to go on and on. And I can identify so much, do you know in the farm bill my friends we gave 93 million dollars in tax breaks to thorough bred race horse owners. [...] And 15 million dollars for asparagus growers. And the list goes on and on. We need to scrutinize these agencies of government and rather just promise increased spending we should take those funds and then we can put them to the causes that are so vital. In every statistic that you mentioned, Lance, is absolutely true. And frankly, as a person who had one of the toughest fights of quitting smoking, I don't think we should penalize people with lung cancer because they smoked. Especially when the government of the United States encouraged it at one point in time in our history.

SUMMARY
=======
Robert Alphonso Taft Sr. (September 8, 1889 – July 31, 1953) was an American conservative politician, lawyer, and scion of the Republican Party's Taft family. Taft represented Ohio in the United States Senate, briefly served as Senate Majority Leader, and was a leader of the conservative coalition of Republicans and conservative Democrats who prevented expansion of the New Deal. Often referred to as Mr. Republican, he cosponsored the Taft–Hartley Act of 1947, which banned closed shops and other labor practices.
The elder son of William Howard Taft, the 27th President of the United States, Robert Taft was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He pursued a legal career in Cincinnati after graduating from Harvard Law School in 1913. Along with his brother, Charles Phelps Taft II, he co-founded the law partnership of Taft Stettinius & Hollister. Taft served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1921 to 1931 and in the Ohio Senate from 1931 to 1933. Though he lost re-election in 1932, he remained a powerful force in state and local politics.
After winning election to the Senate in 1938 over incumbent Democrat Robert J. Bulkley, Taft repeatedly sought the Republican presidential nomination, often battling for control of the party with the moderate faction of Republicans led by Thomas E. Dewey. He also emerged as a prominent non-interventionist and opposed U.S. involvement into World War II prior to the 1941 Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor. Taft's non-interventionist stances damaged his 1940 candidacy, and the 1940 Republican National Convention nominated Wendell Willkie. Taft sought the presidency again in 1948, but he lost to Dewey at the 1948 Republican National Convention. He opposed the creation of NATO and criticized President Harry Truman's handling of the Korean War.
Taft again sought the presidential nomination a third time in 1952, and was widely viewed as the front-runner. However, Dewey and other moderates convinced General Dwight D. Eisenhower to enter the race, and Eisenhower narrowly prevailed at the 1952 Republican National Convention and went on to win the 1952 presidential election. Taft was elected Senate Majority Leader in 1953 but died of pancreatic cancer later that year. A 1957 Senate committee named Taft as one of America's five greatest senators, along with Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, John C. Calhoun, and Robert M. La Follette, Sr.

SUMMARY
=======
Michigan ( (listen)) is a state in the Great Lakes and Midwestern regions of the United States.
The state's name, Michigan, originates from the Ojibwe word mishigamaa, meaning large water or large lake. Michigan is the tenth most populous of the 50 United States, with the 11th most extensive total area, and is the largest state by total area east of the Mississippi River. Michigan has a population of about 10 million. Its capital is Lansing and its largest city is Detroit. Metro Detroit is among the nation's most populous and largest metropolitan economies.
Michigan is the only state to consist of two peninsulas. The Lower Peninsula, to which the name Michigan was originally applied, is often noted as shaped like a mitten. The Upper Peninsula (often called the U.P.) is separated from the Lower Peninsula by the Straits of Mackinac, a five-mile (8 km) channel that joins Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. The Mackinac Bridge connects the peninsulas. The state has the longest freshwater coastline of any political subdivision in the world, being bounded by four of the five Great Lakes, plus Lake Saint Clair. As a result, it is one of the leading U.S. states for recreational boating. Michigan also has 64,980 inland lakes and ponds. A person in the state is never more than six miles (9.7 km) from a natural water source or more than 85 miles (137 km) from a Great Lakes shoreline.The area was first settled by Native American tribes, whose successive cultures occupied the territory for thousands of years. Colonized by French explorers in the 17th century, it was claimed as part of New France. After France's defeat in the French and Indian War in 1762, the region came under British rule. Britain ceded this territory to the newly independent United States after Britain's defeat in the American Revolutionary War. The area was part of the larger Northwest Territory until 1800, when western Michigan became part of the Indiana Territory. Michigan Territory was formed in 1805, but some of the northern border with Canada was not agreed upon until after the War of 1812. Michigan was admitted into the Union in 1837 as the 26th state, a free one. It soon became an important center of industry and trade in the Great Lakes region and a popular immigrant destination in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Although Michigan developed a diverse economy, it is widely known as the center of the U.S. automotive industry, which developed as a major economic force in the early 20th century. It is home to the country's three major automobile companies (whose headquarters are all within the Detroit metropolitan area). While sparsely populated, the Upper Peninsula is important for tourism thanks to its abundance of natural resources, while the Lower Peninsula is a center of manufacturing, forestry, agriculture, services, and high-tech industry.

While sparsely populated, the Upper Peninsula is important for tourism thanks to its abundance of natural resources, while the Lower Peninsula is a center of manufa ...
