Spallumcheen 120 KICK OFF memories (5:31)
Memories of Spallumcheen's 120 years KICK OFF celebration on July 16th, 2012
The Township of Spallumcheen, incorporated in 1892, is one of the largest Municipalities in South East British Columbia, and one of the most scenic Municipality in BC. The first Reeve (Mayor) was Donald Graham.
In 1866 A.L. Fortune was the first settler in Spallumcheen, and in 1867 Thomas Greenhow, Cornelius O'Keefe & Thomas Woods started L&A Ranch. They came from Oregon with herds of cattle destined for the Cariboo Gold Fields and settled here.
In 1878 Donald Matheson arrived in Hullcar. He was a member of the first Municipal Council, Sept. 1892. Elected Reeve in 1913, also first President of A&S Agricultural Society (known today as the I.P.E. Interior Provincial Exhibition, and is still the largest agriculture fair in British Columbia, held each year at the fairgrounds in the City of Armstrong).
The Township of Spallumcheen is a diversified community representing a combination of farming, industrial and residential ventures.
In 1992, the Township of Spallumcheen celebrated its Centennial, during which time Guenter A. Rieger was mayor and served the community as such from 1989 to 1996.
The City of Armstrong, located in the center of Spallumcheen was incorporated in 1913, and providing a business center for both communities. Both communities sharing many joined functions like Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of commerce, Armstrong-Spallumcheen Fire Department, Armstrong Park & Recreation and many more.
On July 16th, 2012 the Township of Spallumcheen celebrated 120 years anniversary of incorporation. Council members and many residents dressed up in 1892 costumes to participated in the KICK OFF celebration, organized by Coun. Rachael Ganson.
During the council meeting on July 16th, 2012, Centennial Mayor Guenter A. Rieger thanked Mayor Janice Brown and council for being invited to 120 years kick off celebration. He presented Mayor Janice Brown and members of Council with a certificate of thanks and encouraged Council keeping Spallumcheen as the most scenic Municipality in British Columbia.
He said, He said, Madam Mayor! You will go into the history books of Spallumcheen, since you're our first women mayor in Spallumcheen, Congratulations. During my terms as Mayor of Spallumcheen I was proud to say, its an honor to be the Mayor of the most scenic Municipality in British Columbia. I'm confident that you, after you completed your terms on Council will be able to say the same, and I would like to thank you for that. We inherited the land to give it back to our children as we have received it. Thanks again and congratulations on this special day for Spallumcheen.
There will be more celebrations during the year to celebrate Spallumcheen's 120th Birthday.
The next event will take place on Sunday, August 12th, 2012 at Historic O'Keefe Ranch from noon to 4:00PM.
Mayor Janice Brown, organizer Coun. Rachael Ganson and the entire Council looking forward to meet again many residents and visitors at the event at Historic O'Keefe Ranch. Council encouraging residents to dress up in 1892 costumes as well.

Vancouver Lookout Tower - Where's Neil Armstrong's.....
Neek sez: Neil Armstrong opened the Vancouver Lookout Tower in August 13, 1977 and left his footprint there in cement. Check it out:
Unfortunately, it didn’t stay there because it was lost or stolen during its renovation. It’s a mystery….
The Vancouver Lookout tower might look familiar from numerous appearances in recent television shows such as Arrow and DC Legends of Tomorrow. We like visiting towers because it gives such a great view of the city and we can see where we want to go visit next. The panoramic scenes of Stanley Park, the Pacific Ocean, the Olympic and North Shore Mountains are unsurpassed.
This tower also has a revolving restaurant and it’s just steps away from Waterfront Station, a major transit hub where you can catch public transportation to your next destination.
The daily admission ticket is good for all day. So you can see the sites during the day and see the city light up at night. Enjoy.
Lex sez:
We were a bit concerned driving into Canada the night before visiting the Vancouver Lookout Tower. After crossing the border (where the humorless border guard looked more like a Navy SEAL than a Canadian Border Guard!) we encountered pretty steady rain on the road to our motel. We were looking forward to another beautiful 360º aerial view after our wonderful experience in Seattle and so far it did not seem promising in Vancouver.
But when we woke up the next morning, Neek and I were very pleased to see that most of the clouds were gone. We drove to the Vancouver Lookout Tower and got our tickets for the observation deck. The 40 second glass elevator ride was fun and gave us a great look of the surrounding buildings. The observation deck was a really spectacular view; they did a great job optimizing glass use without using too many connecting bars to mar the panoramic experience. We got a fantastic view of Stanley Park through one of the many telescopes they have perched there. The Lookout is very near the BC Place Stadium, home of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
But the highlight for me was getting to see Mount Baker! There was a guide giving a tour at the moment I noticed and asked her which mountain it was. She told me that it was a very rare sighting on the observation deck; often it's just too cloudy to see it. I left feeling very fortunate to have had such a unique experience!

The US-Canada Border Splits This Road Down The Middle
Rue Canusa (or Canusa Avenue) is a street that's split in two by a border: the northern part is in Stanstead, Canada, and the southern part is in Derby Line, USA — and border crossings here aren't as easy as they used to be.

Mar 31, 2017 Armstrong RCMP Ricapa doing a retaliation inspection
The North Okanagan BC RCMP are retaliating for some reason after someone complaining about barking and the way the RCMP were handling it and the person took back all the complaints they made about the RCMP yet are still being retaliated against, so the RCMP Constable Ricapa handed out three tickets Mar 31, 2017. 2 tickets were for use of electronic device while driving, only the person wasn't driving, they were parked, and the other ticket was $81 for a crack in the windshield obscuring vision and they were given a notice to have the windshield repaired and inspected within 20 days, only thing was that the persons vision is not obscured where the crack was. The crack was up much higher than the persons eye level. Didn't know that the RCMP were mechanics enough to look under someones hood, did you? Good thing we had new tires at the beginning of winter and that the headlights worked and the signals worked or we would have received more tickets. Those North Okanagan RCMP would do anything in their power to get this person in retaliation for complaints made against the RCMP, only don't know why the RCMP persist when the person took every complaint back?
For more information about the dog complaints this person made to the RCMP and the complaints the neighbors made about this person because their Regional District was doing nothing about bylaw complaints is here at this link.

Tickets Available Now!
July 13-14 - Armstrong, BC @ Hassen Arena
ARMSTRONG METALFEST is proud to announce its 2018 line up featuring headliners KATAKLYSM, SARAH LONGFIELD, ARCHSPIRE, THE KENNEDY VEIL and more (full line-up listed below).
What first began as a backyard show has now grown into one of Western Canada's best mountain moshpits in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley. Reaching its 10 year milestone, Armstrong MetalFest is now anchored as one of the largest gatherings of metalheads from across Western Canada and beyond. The 2018 line-up will feature over 30 bands performing on July 13th and 14th at the Hassen Arena in Armstrong, BC.
Festival co-founder Jesse Valstar comments:
“Everyone in West Metal Entertainment Society has put in the extra effort in making this year the best year we have ever had. Celebrating 10 years of this festival is a big deal! There were people who were quite skeptical about the event when it first originated, some even went as far as to say it would never work and that it won't last. Now ten years later, the tone overall is very welcoming and has been for many years!
This year's line up brings together a good mix of bands that have never played and fan favorites. Kataklysm has been a band we have sought after over the years and have finally booked! It’s great timing also with them releasing a new album in June!
This year's Armstrong Metalfest is a milestone for us. We have successfully made it to a decade of metal in the Okanagan!”
