Hello Rawalpindi |Exploring Rawalpindi /Islamabad
Rawalpindi is the 4th largest city of Pakistan. It is in Punjab province and located in Pothohar region of Pakistan. Rawalpindi is in the northernmost part of the Punjab province, 275 km (171 mi) to the north-west of Lahore. Rawalpindi is also known as Pindi. Pindi is also known as twin cities along with capital Islamabad. In the 1950s, the city’s economy received a boost during the building of Islamabad (1959–1969) during which time Rawalpindi served as the national capital and its population increased from 180,000 at the time of independence. It is the administrative seat of the Rawalpindi district. The total area of the city is approximately 108.8 square kilometers (42.0 sq. mi). The City-District of Rawalpindi comprises seven autonomous tehsils. Rawalpindi is the military headquarters of the Pakistan Armed forces.
Inhabitants of Rawalpindi District speak a great variety of Punjabi includes Pothohari, Majhi, Pahari, shahpuri, Dhani and Kashmiri. Although Urdu is also the mother tongue of few people but Urdu being a national language is spoken and understood by sizeable population. English is also known and spoken by many people of Rawalpindi. Pashto is also spoken of migrants.
As far as the history of Rawalpindi is concern, Rawalpindi has been from thousands of years, it is believed that a distinct culture flourished on this plateau as far in c1000BC. The nearby town Taxila has Guinness Book of World Record for its world oldest civilization and university. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, the minority Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India while the Muslim refugees from India settled in the Rawalpindi. In the succeeding years, Rawalpindi saw an influx of Muhajir, Pashtun and Kashmiri settlers. In late 50’s the city became the interim capital of the country after creation of a new planned capital of Islamabad in the vicinity of Rawalpindi which results most major central government offices and institutions relocate to nearby territory, and its population increases due to migrants from different part of country.
Rawalpindi has a big history in terms of assassinations. At first in 1951, Rawalpindi saw the assassination of the first elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan in Company Bagh which later turns its name as Liaquat Bagh Park. Then in late 70’s Prime Minister Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged in Rawalpindi jail. In 2007, Liaquat Bagh Park’s gate in Rawalpindi was also the site of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
The city has two main roads: the Grand Trunk Road and is known as The Mall as it passes through the cantonment, Murree Road breaks north from The Mall, its way to Islamabad. Murree road which has been has been a hot spot for various political and social events. Others roads are Said Purr Road, Liaqat road, Kashmir road, Bank road, Civil Line road, Jamia Masjid road, Sarfraz Road, College Road, Rawal Road, Band khana road, Iqbal road, circular road, Haider road, 4-7th roads etc. Liaquat Memorial Hall was constructed in memorization of late Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan. It features a huge auditorium and library. Art shows, public shows and stage Dramas are performed right here frequently. Garden Rawalpindi well-laid garden with sports facilities and children’s park has been developed near the community hall in Rawalpindi. Rawalpindi has its significance in terms of its forces headquarters. It has headquarters of the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air force and also has an active airbase in chakala cantt of Rawalpindi.
Pakistan Improves Care for Wounded Troops
From VOA Learning English, this is Health. More than 5,000 members of the Pakistani security forces have been killed fighting terrorists and militants since 2001. Twice as many regular and paramilitary troops have been wounded. But the high number of deaths and injuries has resulted in improved care at the army's top rehabilitation center in Rawalpindi. Doctors at the rehabilitation center help injured troops regain physical and mental skills damaged in war. Aman Ullah lost both of his legs more than a year ago while serving in the Khyber tribal area on the border with Afghanistan. The 23-year-old is one of the thousands of Pakistani soldiers dealing with wounds from Pakistan's fight against militant groups. Most soldiers are wounded by improvised explosive devices, or IEDs. The soldiers are recovering from major medical operations at Rawalpindi's Armed Forces Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine, or AFIRM. Aman Ullah and several other soldiers are now hoping to compete in the next Paralympic Games. This international competition is for athletes with disabilities. The chief of the rehabilitation center says he is proud of the progress made in treating the patients. The experience of treating thousands of patients over the years has led to improved medical practices. These improvements include more useful artificial limbs to replace arms and legs lost to injuries. Medical workers have also developed other improved practices for helping wounded soldiers. There are plans to expand the Rawalpindi rehabilitation center. For VOA Learning English, I'm Carolyn Presutti. (Adapted from a radio program broadcast 17Apr2013)

STORYLINE:
On January 20th a Taliban suicide bomber blew himself near Pakistan's main military headquarters in Rawalpindi, killing 13 people just a day after the militants struck inside an army compound in the northwest of the country killing 20 troops, officials and militants said.
The two-day barrage is among the most intense onslaughts recently against the Pakistani army as it struggles to battle insurgents in the country's volatile frontier regions.
January 20th's attack took place early in the morning in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, next to the capital Islamabad.
Police said a suicide bomber struck just outside the main military headquarters.
A retired officer and five soldiers were among those killed, according to another police officer who said the bombing also wounded 18 people.
The suicide bomber was riding a bicycle and detonated his explosives when he got close to a military checkpoint, police said.
January 19th's bombing in the northwest targeted a vehicle in a convoy that was about to leave a military base in the town of Bannu and drive west to the North Waziristan tribal area, police said.
Pakistan's military said that attack also wounded 30 troops.
The Taliban had also claimed responsibility for January 19th's attack and called it a suicide bombing.
A spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban, Shahidullah Shahid, told The Associated Press by telephone that the attack had been carried out to avenge the death of Waliur Rehman, the group's former second in command. He was killed last year in a US drone strike.
Shahid also claimed responsibility for the Rawalpindi blast, saying in another telephone call on January 20th that the army was the target.
North Waziristan is considered a safe haven for al-Qaida-linked militants and Pakistani troop convoys in the region are often hit by roadside bombs, though attacks inside military compounds are rare.
The Pakistani military has been fighting for years in the tribal areas against militants who want to overthrow the government and establish a hard-line Islamic state.
The tribal region is also a refuge for insurgents fighting NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) and US forces in neighbouring Afghanistan.
***
On February 11th police said assailants threw three grenades inside a cinema in Peshawar, northwest Pakistan, killing at least 10 people.
Officials said initial reports said one grenade struck the main door, then the attackers threw two more inside the theatre.

army public school interview questions

Teaching interview preparation tips
Re-read all aspects of your application (particularly your supporting or personal statement and research).
Make sure you have specific examples from your school experience to demonstrate how you meet the selection criteria. Consider taking a portfolio of evidence.
Read the educational press so you can discuss current trends and educational issues.
Prepare a rough outline of your answers to sample questions.
Think about questions to ask the panel; write a list and take it with you.
Ensure you can demonstrate your commitment to the particular school as well as to the teaching profession generally.
Plan your journey and allow plenty of time to get there.
Dress smartly; consider this in relation to teaching a sample lesson.
INTERVIEW TIPS -
Interview Preparation Step #1:
Predict what the questions will be and prepare your answers
The Internet is filled with sample teacher interview questions. It’s pretty much guaranteed that they’ll ask you about your classroom discipline plan, your ability to work with special education students, your favorite lessons, your strengths, and your weaknesses
Interview Preparation Step #2:
Make a list of popular education buzzwords and acronyms
What terminology might be used during the interview? If a principal asks you how you use differentiation, will you be able to tell him/her? Or will you be the candidate that asks, “What do you mean?”
Interview Preparation Step #3:
Assemble a Teaching Portfolio
Your teaching portfolio is your professional brag book. Find lots of evidence of your teaching (or student teaching) experiences, and assemble it all in one big, fat binder. It should be chock-full of student work samples, lesson plans, parent newsletters, and philosophy statements. Be sure you have a type-written table-of-contents and dividing tabs so you can easily find information at an interview.
Conclusion
When you’re at an interview table, don’t wait for an interviewer to ask to see your portfolio. Instead, be ready to pull out examples of your work whenever something in your portfolio relates to something being asked. Interviewers will be impressed by your organization and preparation. Even more importantly, you’ll be PROVING that you’re an effective teacher, rather than just TELLING them.
