Zanzibar Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Zanzibar in Tanzania.
Zanzibar is a paradise-like island just off the Tanzanian coast. An island of spice and exotic aromas, sultans' palaces, harems, shining white beaches and fiery red sunsets.
The ancient oriental city of Zanzibar derived its name from its many old stone buildings. Charming and mysterious, they have witnessed much of the island's dramatic past and the tangled architecture of coral stone and shell lime serves as a fascinating backdrop to this colorful city that is strongly influenced by an Arabian way of life.
In the north of the old town is one of the island's most beautiful buildings, the Ismali Dispensarium. It was built by a wealthy Indian businessman and was originally a hospital with an adjoining pharmacy. Today it contains a cultural centre.
The house of the infamous Tippu Tip, who was once Zanzibar's biggest slave trader, has not yet been restored. He was an extremely unpleasant man who sent his servants into the African bush to catch slaves who were later sold in Zanzibar. Livingstone House was built in 1861. The famous missionary and explorer once resided there prior to going on his final expedition. He was frequently the guest of Tippu Tip who offered Dr. Livingstone various maps that were based upon his slave routes.
A tropical paradise just off the African coast with the flair of the Orient, historic architecture and the colors of Africa. Zanzibar is most assuredly a legendary and fairy-tale island of global culture.

Zanzibar Mix and other Indian Tanzanian Street Food Snacks
One of the most popular Tanzanian street food snacks is the incredible creation known as Zanzibar Mix. Click here to see the full article -
There's a big influence in the food in Dar Es Salaam, and throughout Tanzania, from Indian food. During the day, lots of restaurants and street food stalls wait out the heat, but beginning about about 5 pm or so everyday, street food carts begin to emerge onto the streets to sell some of their delights. There's a big population of Indians for the Gujarat state, so the food often reflects this region of India. In the area of Upanga, there's a nice little stall that opens to sell a few Indian Tanzanian street food snacks, the most adored being a fresh bowl of Zanzibar Mix.
But I first got things started with a bowl of pani puri, one of the most beloved snacks in India. It begins with with little hollow chips known as puris. At first a hole is poked on the top, before ingredients like potatoes, spices, and other ingredients are piled in. The puri is then filled up with water that's spiced with coriander and mint and other herbs and sweetened with tamarind. So when you take a bite of pani puri, it explodes with a liquidy flavor that will have you licking your lips.
After the plate of pani puri, we moved onto another Indian street food favorite, bhel puri ( It was indeed another winner, using a delicious combination of crunchy fried ingredients with fresh ingredients like tomatoes, red onions, coriander, and chillies.
But the ultimate Dar Es Salaam street food snack is something known as Zanzibar Mix. This is something you'll only find in Tanzania, for the most part, it's a homegrown creation of a snack that has influence from Tanzania, India, and maybe even a little Middle Eastern flavors tossed in. It's a widely popular snack in Dar Es Salaam and on the island of Zanzibar. Zanzibar Mix is a soupy combination that included deep fried bhajias, and deep fried fritters topped with a mild curry that's made from thickened flour and seasoned with spices. It's then topped with crunchy potato and cassava chips and a scoop of both coconut chutney and red pili pili chili sauce. The result is nothing short of a Tanzanian junk food crowd pleaser! It's got all the aspects of a quality junk food: crunchy, salty, spicy, and deep fried. Her Zanzibar Mix was and excellent combination.
When you visit Dar Es Salaam, or go to the island of Zanzibar, be sure to have a bowl of Zanzibar Mix. Don't forget to read the full article here:

Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania in East Africa. It is composed of the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 kilometres (16–31 mi) off the coast of the mainland, and consists of many small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, referred to informally as Zanzibar) and Pemba. The capital is Zanzibar City, located on the island of Unguja. Its historic centre is Stone Town, which is a World Heritage Site.
The name Zanzibar is derived from the Persian zang-bâr signifying black coast.
Zanzibar's main industries are spices, raffia, and tourism. In particular, the islands produce cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper. For this reason, the islands, together with Tanzania's Mafia Island, are sometimes called the Spice Islands (a term also associated with the Maluku Islands in Indonesia). Zanzibar is the home of the endemic Zanzibar red colobus monkey, the Zanzibar servaline genet, and the (possibly extinct) Zanzibar leopard.
===============
The larger islands in the archipelago are highly fertile, with many agricultural resources. They're covered with small farms and everywhere the air is thick with the aroma spices – it's an exotic atmosphere. The beaches on these islands are often stunning: many are powdery white sand, shaded by palm trees. The sea is shallow and tropical, and the reefs are great for snorkelling and diving.
We've split Zanzibar up into the following areas – click on the headings:
Stone Town
The heart of Zanzibar Town, Stone Town, is a labyrinth of narrow alleys complete with palaces, mosques, and tiny shops. Come here for a night or two to stay in a small hotel or converted merchant's house – and soak up the atmosphere.
East Coast Zanzibar
The east coast of Zanzibar is lined with long, powder-white beaches; it's very sow and relaxed. We've included here the best small resorts; all quite different! Or travel offshore to the magical Mnemba Island - for the ultimate private island getaway!
Northern Zanzibar
Two or three hours' drive from Stone Town, Nungwi has long been a magnet for visitors seeking their slice of paradise. Come for good diving and beaches, and a lively village atmosphere; there's a lot going on here.
Michamvi Peninsula
Zanzibar's southeast, the Michamvi Peninsula is very similar to the East Coast – small lodges, and the odd larger hotel, on long, stunning, powder-white beaches and palm trees.
South-west Zanzibar
South of Stone Town, the Fumba Peninsula is one of the most relaxed and friendly corners of the island – and its very quiet, with few visitors. There are two beautiful lodges here – and offshore is an award-winning eco-resort on Chumbe Island
Zanzibar day-trips
See here for day-trips that are possible from virtually anywhere o the island. Talk to us to integrate one or more of these into your time on Zanzibar.
Pemba Island
Although part of the archipelago, Pemba is a half-hour flight north-east of Zanzibar. It's a less developed island with a more traditional people, and one smart lodge.
Mafia Island
Although not part of the Zanzibar Archipelago, the neighbouring Mafia Archipelago deserves to be better-known – even if we are often glad that it isn't. Come for a handful of great-value tiny beach lodges, and great snorkelling and diving. They're not glitzy or glamorous – but they are good.

ZANZIBAR ISLAND SPICE TOUR - HOW CHANEL NO 5 MADE IN AFRICA TANZANIA VLOG
Chanel no 5 : Traditionally, fragrance worn by women had adhered to two basic categories: respectable women favored the pure essence of a single garden flower, and sexually provocative perfumes heavy with animal musk or jasmine were associated with women of the demi-monde, prostitutes or courtesans.Chanel felt the time was right for the debut of a scent that would epitomize the flapper and would speak to the liberated spirit of the 1920s
Jasmine : Jasmine can be either deciduous (leaves falling in autumn) or evergreen (green all year round), and can be erect, spreading, or climbing shrubs and vines. Their leaves are born, opposite or alternate. They can be simple, trifoliate, or pinnate. The flowers are typically around 2.5 cm (0.98 in) in diameter. They are white or yellow in color, although in rare instances they can be slightly reddish. The flowers are borne in cymose clusters with a minimum of three flowers, though they can also be solitary on the ends of branchlets. Each flower has about four to nine petals, two locules, and one to four ovules. They have two stamens with very short filaments. The bracts are linear or ovate. The calyx is bell-shaped. They are usually very fragrant. The fruits of jasmines are berries that turn black when ripe.
Tanzania zanzibar spice garden tour : Breathe in Zanzibar’s scents and spices on a 4-hour food and culture tour with a Swahili lunch, and learn to prepare a traditional cassava leaf sauce. Visit a spice farm deep in Zanzibar’s countryside, and learn the island’s remarkable role in the historic spice trade. Taste fresh spices and seasonal fruits, see how cassavas are cultivated and processed, and join in a short cooking lesson in the farm’s outdoor kitchen. Enjoy a traditional meal of richly spiced rice with vegetables and fruit then return to Stone Town in an air-conditioned minivan.
