Oklahoma Bigfoot in Atoka County
Oklahoma Bigfoot in Atoka County // Welcome to Rothline on YouTube where we explore, investigate, and enjoy traveling, visiting sites, reliving stories, discovering history, and going on adventures.
On the 8th of February 2008 a Bigfoot sighting in Atoka County, Oklahoma was reported to the North American Wood Ape Conservancy. During the Spring of 2007 a family that had a farm in the town of Tushka in Atoka County dealt with heavy rains and an ape-like creature.
They first encountered the creature when they noticed their horses avoiding a grove of trees where the horses normally grazed. The mother decided to investigate and she saw an ape-like creature with white fur. The creature was about six feet tall and stood on two legs but ran off as the mother approached.
A couple of weeks later the two sons saw the white creature under a tree in the front yard. When they approached the creature growled and then ran. The creature ran on two legs across the pasture, and jumped a fence. Then the creature began running on all fours and headed into the woods.
The next day, the family went to investigate. The pasture had a trail of bent over grass and weeds that they followed to the Muddy Boggy River Bottom which is half a mile from their farm. They found prints in the mud near the river of hands, feet, and knuckles about the size of a large human or an ape.
The next few weeks passed without incident except for the rain, but a week later at night when the mother stepped into the front room of the house when she saw the creature through the front window. The mother was startled and apparently so was the creature because it ran off after being spotted.
After two months the rain subsided and the family never saw the creature again.
The family reported the sightings and Jerry Hestand a Bigfoot researcher investigated. Hestand believed the family to be honest and reliable, but was unable to retrieve any physical evidence of the creature’s presence in the area. He believed the creature might have been trapped in the area near the family’s farm due to the river flooding.

SUMMARY
=======
The Ohio River, which streams westward from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Cairo, Illinois, is the largest tributary, by volume, of the Mississippi River in the United States. At the confluence, the Ohio is considerably bigger than the Mississippi (Ohio at Cairo: 281,500 cu ft/s (7,960 m3/s); Mississippi at Thebes: 208,200 cu ft/s (5,897 m3/s)) and, thus, is hydrologically the main stream of the whole river system.
The 981-mile (1,579 km) river flows through or along the border of six states, and its drainage basin includes parts of 15 states. Through its largest tributary, the Tennessee River, the basin includes many of the states of the southeastern U.S. It is the source of drinking water for three million people. The name Ohio comes from the Seneca, Ohi:yo', lit. Good River. The river had great significance in the history of the Native Americans, as numerous civilizations formed along its valley. For thousands of years, Native Americans used the river as a major transportation and trading route. Its waters connected communities. In the five centuries before European conquest, the Mississippian culture built numerous regional chiefdoms and major earthwork mounds in the Ohio Valley, such as Angel Mounds near Evansville, Indiana, as well as in the Mississippi Valley and the Southeast. The Osage, Omaha, Ponca and Kaw lived in the Ohio Valley, but under pressure from the Iroquois to the northeast, migrated west of the Mississippi River to Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma in the 17th century.
In 1669, René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle led a French expedition to the Ohio River, becoming the first Europeans to see it. After European-American settlement, the river served as a border between present-day Kentucky and Indian Territories. It was a primary transportation route for pioneers during the westward expansion of the early U.S. In his Notes on the State of Virginia published in 1781–82, Thomas Jefferson stated: The Ohio is the most beautiful river on earth. Its current gentle, waters clear, and bosom smooth and unbroken by rocks and rapids, a single instance only excepted.During the 19th century, the river was the southern boundary of the Northwest Territory. It is sometimes considered as the western extension of the Mason–Dixon Line that divided Pennsylvania from Maryland, and thus part of the border between free and slave territory, and between the Northern and Southern United States or Upper South. Where the river was narrow, it was the way to freedom for thousands of slaves escaping to the North, many helped by free blacks and whites of the Underground Railroad resistance movement.
The Ohio River is a climatic transition area, as its water runs along the periphery of the humid subtropical and humid continental climate areas. It is inhabited by fauna and flora of both climates. In winter, it regularly freezes over at Pittsburgh but rarely farther south toward Cincinnati and Louisville. At Paducah, Kentucky, in the south, near the Ohio's confluence with the Mississippi, it is ice-free year-round.

10 Fascinating US State Name Origins
Here are the fascinating origins of 10 states’ names.
Not surprisingly, the process of naming a state can be an involved one. It can also yield a number of fascinating stories. Here are the origins of 10 US states names.
Number 10. Colorado. Taken by the unique and striking hue of the river flowing through the area, people began to refer to the waterway as the Colorado, a Spanish word for ‘colored red’. Congress liked it, so in 1861 they adopted as a reference for the entire territory.
Number 9. Idaho. In the mid 1800s lobbyist George M. Willing campaigned to have the territory that would later become Colorado carry the Idaho name. He said that it was a Native American word meaning ‘gem of the mountains’. It was later discovered that he’d made it up. The name however, stuck and moved further west.
Number 8. Rhode Island. In 1524 a European explorer decided that the landmass off the coast looked like the Mediterranean Island of Rhodes. That name made its way to England, and 1663 King Charles II made it official. When it came time make it a state, the name was carried forth.
Number 7. Florida. Having been discovered by the Spanish on March 20th of 1513, the land was named for the religious holiday falling on that date. It’s believed its earliest European name was Pascua florida, which roughly translates as Palm Sunday.
Number 6. Oklahoma. The name is derived from two Choctaw words: ‘okla’ and ‘humma’ which together mean red people. It’s been pointed out that if the Washington Redskins have to change their name, so too should the state of Oklahoma.
Number 5. California. It’s appropriate that a state where one of the primary industries is movie making and storytelling got its moniker from a novel. Inspiration came from the 16th century Spanish romance, Las Sergas de Esplandian, which references a fantasyland called ‘Baja California’.
Number 4. Pennsylvania. That’s what you get when you combine the Welsh surname Penn and the Latin word for woods. The William Penn who was the recipient of the land however, was not the individual being honored. It was named for his late father, as King Charles the second handed over the property to satisfy a debt owed to the elder.
Number 3. Virginia. As she never married, Elizabeth the first was often referred to as the ‘Virgin Queen’. In her honor, Virginia was the identifier given to all of North America that hadn’t been claimed by the Spanish or French. In 1788, it was officially bestowed upon the state.
Number 2. North Carolina. Taken from the Latin word for Charles, as in the early-17th century King of England, it once described the region that consisted of both present day North and South. They were later split apart and given their respective upper and lower designations.
Number 1. Massachusetts. The word is of Algonquian origins, but its exact meaning has gotten a bit clouded over time. Strong possibilities include great hills mouth, great mountain place, and Indian arrowhead.
What’s your favorite origin story?

Finding Good Crappie Fishing Spots
Jason made a point in the fall and winter to look for new crappie fishing spots with his electronics. He started in some productive arms of the lake and idled along break lines looking for brush piles with fish.
These creek channel edges are often where fishermen like to drop their brush piles. So Jason scanned with Lowrance HDS 3D Structure Scan for likely looking spots and brush piles until he found schools of crappie holding on them.
Once he saw a good school of fish on a brush pile, he stopped and fished it. He would cast a jig over the top, when they quit biting that, he would pitch to the piles from a closer distance, and finally he would get right on top of them and fish vertically on the pile.
He had one of the best fall/winter periods for crappie fishing in recent years by getting out and hunting for fish more with his electronics.
