Bedford is the county town of Bedfordshire, England. Bedford was founded at a ford on the River Great Ouse, and is thought to have been the burial place of Offa of Mercia. Bedford Castle was built by Henry I, although it was destroyed in 1224.
Bedford was granted borough status in 1165 and has been represented in Parliament since 1265. It is well known for its large population of Italian descent. Bedford is on the Midland Main Line, with stopping services to London and Brighton operated by Thameslink, and express services to London and the East Midlands operated by East Midlands Trains.
The town of Kempston is adjacent to Bedford, as are the villages of Elstow, Renhold and Ravensden. Wixams is a new town which is being developed to the south of Bedford. Villages in the Borough of Bedford with populations of more than 2,000 as of 2005 were Biddenham, Bromham, Clapham, Elstow, Oakley, Sharnbrook, Shortstown, Wilstead, and Wootton. There are also many smaller villages in the borough. The villages in the borough are popular with commuters to Bedford, and also with people who commute to Milton Keynes, London and towns in Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire.
Transport in Bedford provides links between the town and other parts of England. Road access to the town is provided by the A6 road. Places to see in ( Launceston - UK )
Places to see in ( Launceston - UK )
Launceston west of the River Tamar, which constitutes almost the entire border between Cornwall and Devon, at its middle stage. Its gradients are generally steep particularly at a sharp south-western knoll topped by Launceston Castle.
Launceston town centre is bypassed and is no longer physically a main thoroughfare. However, the town remains figuratively the gateway to Cornwall, due to having one of the two dual carriageways into the county pass directly next to the town. The other dual carriageway and alternative main point of entry is at Saltash over the Tamar Bridge and was completed in 1962.
Launceston Steam Railway narrow-gauge heritage railway runs for aesthetic and industrial heritage purposes along a short rural route, it is popular with visitors during the summer months, but does not run for much of the year.
Launceston Castle was built by Robert, Count of Mortain (half-brother of William the Conqueror) c. 1070 to dominate the surrounding area. Launceston was the caput of the feudal barony of Launceston and of the Earldom of Cornwall until replaced by Lostwithiel in the 13th century. Launceston was later the county town of Cornwall until 1835 when Bodmin replaced it.
Launceston is a market town, castle, recreational and heritage railway visitor town and the main shopping centre for the adjoining rural areas of west Devon and east Cornwall. The town is mainly built on the south side of a large hill almost immune to flooding, unlike its northern neighbourhood, Newport in part on a slightly wider plain at the bottom of the hill, which is susceptible to flooding by the River Kensey. The suburb of Newport is recorded for the first time during the 13th century. The natural advantages of the Launceston district had been recognised by the Anglo-Saxon monks of St Stephen and by the Norman lord of Cornwall in the reign of King William I.
Part of the town wall is still in existence including the South Gate of two arches. The White Hart Hotel incorporates a Norman doorway possibly removed from the Castle. New Bridge (early 16th century) crosses the River Tamar: it is of granite. Two old bridges cross the River Kensey: one mediaeval and one built in 1580. The Baptist chapel is late 18th century and a number of Georgian houses may also be seen. Three nonconformist churches/chapels served the 19th century town: Wesleyan Methodist, Bible Christian, and Calvinist. North Cornwall and West Devon's Elim Pentecostal Church is in the town. A church built a Launceston site in 2010, Gateway 2 New Life at the Gateway Centre, having redeveloped a tax office. Lawrence House, a Grade II* listed building on Castle St, houses the town museum.

Paul de Longpre - Victorian Roses
PAUL DE LONGPRE (AMERICAN 1855 – 1911)
( aka P. de Longpre )
VICTORIAN ROSES, 1902
Watercolor, 15.75 x 12.75 inches / Signed and dated lower left
Paul De Longpre was born to an aristocratic family in Lyons, France, which was the center of the French textile design industry and home to many flower painters. He studied at Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he studied under Jean Leo Gerome and Leon Bonnat. Although he was a well-known artist in France, he immigrated to the United States in 1890 and settled in New York City. Success followed him and he continued his artistic career as a commercial illustrator, window decorator and painter. His floral subjects for which he is best known were well received at his first New York exhibition. His paintings have been exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, and he was invited to exhibit in Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, and Los Angeles. In 1899 he moved to Los Angeles California, where he earned the name, “Le Roi des Fleurs” (“The King of Flowers”). His lavish home became a tourist attraction and featured a garden of 4,000 rose bushes from which he took many of his subjects.

The KLF's mysterious return | #AdpRiotTour
The KLF return? - 27 years ago I regularly listened to a British stadium house band called The KLF (Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond). But within a couple of years of finding out about this group and enjoying their music they quit the music business and disappeared. But every few years I discover new KLF related projects, some hidden, some right in front of me. This week one arrived in my local town in a huge shipping container that I could not help but notice. Press PLAY to find out how I got on…

The paintings of the last decades focus mainly on biomorphic and geomorphic phenomena, evolutionary forces, and the propagational drives that form the basis of our existence.
Ultimately, my mind, my eyes, and my hands are merely instrumental in producing this work. In spite of knowing better, I do frequently experience the sensation that the work is not created by me, but through me. My art has a chance for limited survival, but I know my body does not.”
Duygu Kivanc is an artist who has shown her work at the United Nations, Soho, Chelsea in New York; Alexandria, McLean and Fairfax in VA, in Washington DC as well as internationally in various countries. She considers her participation in the Art Students' League {open studio programs} in New York has influenced her development style in art. Especially, Knox Martin's instructions on abstraction has very strong influence.
Victor M. Trejo
Thought I didn’t discover my pictorial vocation but until the late age of the 27 years, my aesthetic sensibility remained deeply marked at 18. A strong spiritual crisis combined with roused readings of Shakespeare, Goethe, Whitman and Victor Hugo, carried me to discover
through aesthetic experience, the existence of a new world of vast and transcendent significations.
