The theme for the 2018 Korea-Ukraine contemporary art exhibition (KUCA2018) is Exposure.
The exhibition will take place at the AkT Gallery in Kiev, Ukraine from June 14 to July 22, 2018.
KUCA 2018 is centered around the KUCA Organizing Committee with the aim of expanding and exchanging cultural arts horizons of contemporary artists active in Korea and Ukraine and discovering new artists. KUCA 2018 Exposure aims to establish a foundation for the exchange of visual arts in both countries by exhibiting works such as photography, installation, sculpture, painting and video art by the participation of young artists and medium standing from both countries.

Sculptor, painter and creator of artistic installations and happenings, Edward Krasiński was one of the most significant Eastern European artists of the 20th century.
Born in Lutsk, now part of Ukraine, Krasiński had an experimental approach to art and exhibition making. Using everyday objects in unconventional ways, Krasiński’s work challenged traditional art forms and blurred the distinction between art and everyday life.
Highlights include Krasiński’s suspended sculptures that often appear gravity defying in their combination of invisible wires, visual puns and trickery, an exploration of the artist’s preoccupation with blue adhesive tape together with re-stagings of his major Interventions.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
“When people meet face to face, something always happens. Obstacles that you thought were insurmountable before no longer seem so bad… I wonder what will happen when the paintings of two artists meet?!” – enquires artist Anton Tarasyuk, whose heartfelt and ironic works often feature birds. From Hitchcockian ravens to the legendary Phoenix bird, from gentle love doves to yellow rubber duckies, the young artist calls upon this winged ‘totem’ to convey his own feelings.
“People’s actions define the meaning of a particular colour, its symbolism, not the other way round,” – asserts Ksenia Datsiuk, the artist behind the colourful, lyrical canvases that exude a confident academic training despite their seemingly nonchalant style. The title of the exhibition also refers to the dialogues between the two of us, two personalities who have decided to share a life and a workshop.”
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Ksenia Datsiuk was born in Lviv in 1994 into a family of artists and sculptors. She graduated from the Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University in Lutsk and the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv (NAOMA). Her works are part of private collections in Ukraine, Belarus, the USA, Canada, China, Italy, France and the collection of the A. Belyi Fine Arts Museum.
Anton Tarasyuk was born in Alchevsk, Luhansk region, in 1986. From an early age he painted under the tutelage of the best local artists. He graduated from the art school of his native city, but wouldn’t enter the academy for another 15 years, having devoted many years to spiritual ministry and to recovering from a debilitating illness. Wheelchair-bound when he entered the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, Anton studied painting there for two years, choosing a new path in both his creative and personal life.

Boris Ignatovich, born in Lutsk, Ukraine in 1899, was a Soviet photographer and a member of the Russian avant-garde movement. Ignatovich began his career in 1918, first working as a journalist and a newspaper editor before taking up photography in 1923. In the early 1920s he worked for a number of publications, most notably, Bednota (Poverty), Krasnaya Niva (Red Field) and Ogonyok.

Vinnytsia (Ukrainian: Ві́нниця, pronounced [ˈvʲinːɪt͡sʲɐ]; also known as Vinnytsya, Vinnitsa (Russian: Ви́нница), Vinnica (Polish: Winnica), German: Winniza, and Romanian: Vinnița) is a city in west-central Ukraine, located on the banks of the Southern Bug. It is the administrative center of Vinnytsia Oblast and the largest city in the historic region of Podolia. Administratively, it is incorporated as a town of oblast significance. It also serves as an administrative center of Vinnytsia Raion, one of the 27 districts of Vinnytsia Oblast, though it is not a part of the district. Population: 371,698 (2013 population estimate).
A historic town known since Middle Ages and a former Soviet Cold War-airbase, Vinnytsia is now an industrial center (particularly, dominated by the Roshen corporation), a growing international IT-outsource center and the main base of the Ukrainian Air Force. The city is also home to the RPC Fort, the largest Ukrainian firearms manufacturer.

This project will provide training in the disciplines of project design and management to a cross-section of the Lutsk community, focusing on community members with an interest in the tourism industry. Recruitment for the seminars will occur through direct contact with tourist organizations by the partner NGO and the City Council's Tourism Sector. That group includes representatives of NGO's, students and instructors from the Lesya Ukrainka National University's Tourism faculty, youth groups and employees of tourism facilities including both service providers and tourist destination sites such as museums, the Lyubart Castle, etc. The primary goal of the project is to upgrade the capabilities and professionalism of various stakeholders in the tourism arena, and to begin to create a unified tourist image and philosophy for Lutsk. The project management capability, in concert with training in general tourism concepts and practices (a separate program not included in this grant) will be key in driving the implementation of the Lutsk strategic plan for tourism development.

Monument to the 90s. commemorates a certain time in the 90s where despite itapos;s small size the small Fiat car was often used by merchants for trading stuff mostly in post soviet countries. Ukrainian artist Volodymyr Kuznetsov presents his latest installation in the context of The Journey To The East exhibition presented at Arsenal Gallery in Bialystok / Poland.
This installation titled Small Fiat 126p is a kind of monument, it commemorates a certain time the 90s, and portrays a specific situation, witnessed by Volodymyr Kuznetsov. The small Fiat type 126p was a very popular car in Poland in 80s and 90s. Despite it's small size it was often used by merchants trading stuff mostly in post soviet countries. For his installation, Volodymyr Kuznetsov collected also some goods from that time. There is a collection of clothes, toys, electronic equipment, kitchen utensils, and all kinds of other things one could find on a flee market about two decades ago.
The artist prepared also a video for the song by Belorussian rock musician Wiktor Tsoi. This song, titled (We want/demand) Changes! is an anthem of Belorussian opposition. It is officially forbidden to be played on the radio. Volodymyr Kuznetsov illustrates this song with archival footages presenting actual changes taking place: The Berlin wall falling down, the Solidarność movement in Poland etc. He combines it with current Belorussian anti-government movement activities.
Volodymyr Kuznetsov is a Ukrainian artist. He is co-founder of the Artistic Council self-educational community, based on interdisciplinary co-operation, CCCK -- Center for Communication and Context, and also co-founder of the artist group R.E.P. (Revolutsijnyj Experymentalnyj Prostir / Revolutionary Experimental Space). Volodymyr Kuznetsov was born in 1976 in Lutsk (Ukraine). He lives and works in Kiev. In 2009 he was shortlisted for the PinchukArtCentre Prize.

Boichuk, Mykhailo [Bojčuk, Myxajlo], b 30 October 1882 in Romanivka, Ternopil county, d 13 July 1937 in Kyiv. Influential Ukrainian modernist painter, graphic artist, and teacher. Boichuk studied at Yuliian Pankevych's art studio in Lviv (1898), a private art school in Vienna (1899), and the Cracow Academy of Arts (1899--1905). He continued his studies at the Munich and Vienna academies of art and exhibited his works at the Latour Gallery in Lviv in 1905 and in Munich in 1907. While living in Paris (1907--10), Boichuk visited the Académie Ranson and P. Sérusier's studio, and, in 1909, he founded his own studio-school, at which his future wife Sofiia Nalepinska, Mykola Kasperovych, S. Baudouin de Courtenay, S. Segno, J. Lewakowska, O. Shaginian, and H. Szramm studied. That year Boichuk participated in exhibitions of the Salon d'Automne, and in 1910 he and his students held an exhibition at the Salon des Indépendants on the theme of the revival of Byzantine art. In 1910 he also traveled to Italy with Nalepinska and Kasperovych.
After that Boichuk worked as a monumentalist and restorer for the National Museum in Lviv, where he was able to save numerous 15th- and 16th-century icons. In 1911 he visited Kyiv, Saint Petersburg, Novgorod the Great, and Moscow. He painted the murals in the Church of the Holy Trinity in the village of Lemeshi near Chernihiv and directed the restoration of an iconostasis in Kozelets (1912--14). In 1914 he was interned by the tsarist authorities because he was an Austro-Hungarian subject.
After the Revolution of 1917 Boichuk lived in Kyiv. There he became a founding professor of the Ukrainian State Academy of Arts (later the Kyiv Art Institute), taught monumental art at the academy, and was briefly its rector. In 1925 he was one of the founders of the Association of Revolutionary Art of Ukraine (ARMU). He visited Germany and France (1926--27). Boichuk formed a school of monumental painting, which continued to develop in Ukraine into the 1930s. He directed a group of artists who contributed monumental paintings and designs to revolutionary celebrations, agit-trains and agit-ships, and the interiors of the Kyiv Theater of Opera and Ballet during the First Congress of Regional Executive Committees (1919), the Kharkiv Opera Theater for the Fifth All-Ukrainian Congress of Soviets (1921), the Ukrainian SSR's pavillion at the First All-Russian Cottage Industry and Agriculture Exhibition in Moscow, and the Kyiv Co-operative Institute (1923).
In collaboration with his students, Boichuk created ensembles featuring monumental paintings on contemporary subjects at the Lutsk Army Barracks in Kyiv (1919), the Peasant Sanatorium in Odesa (1927-- 8), and the Kharkiv Chervonozavodskyi Ukrainian Drama Theater (frescoes, 1933--5), working at the latter in the then compulsory style of socialist realism. He was arrested by the NKVD in November 1936 on the charge of being an 'agent of the Vatican,' interrogated and tortured, and shot on the same day as his two leading students, Ivan Padalka and Vasyl Sedliar. Four months later his wife was also shot.
The works of Boichuk and his school—which included his brother Tymofii Boichuk, Padalka, Sedliar, Nalepinska, Kasperovych, Oksana Pavlenko, Antonina Ivanova, Mykola Rokytsky, Kateryna Borodina, Oleksandr Myzin, Kyrylo Hvozdyk, Pavlo Ivanchenko, Serhii Kolos, Okhrym Kravchenko, Hryhorii Dovzhenko, Onufrii Biziukov, Mariia Kotliarevska, Ivan Lypkivsky, Vira Bura-Matsapura, Yaroslava Muzyka, Oleksandr Ruban, Olena Sakhnovska, Manuil Shekhtman, Mariia Trubetska, Kostiantyn Yeleva, and Mariia Yunak—are an important contribution to Ukrainian and world art.
While in Paris at the end of the 1910s, Boichuk witnessed the birth of modern art and attempted to blend it with aspects of the Ukrainian tradition, developing a style of simplified monumental forms. In his compositions, surfaces are rhythmically integrated with lines. This style became known as Boichukism. Its followers made up a dominant part of the membership of ARMU, which was often attacked by official critics for 'formalism,' 'bourgeois nationalism,' and focusing on the countryside. After ARMU was disbanded and Boichuk was executed, most of his frescoes and paintings were destroyed.

History of every city is inseparably connected with various activities of its inhabitants. Everybody has made his own contribution of labor, sincere affection, ability and talent in those things which we, modern generation, now call historical and cultural property of our city. We are proud of the medieval castle, ancient temples and buildings, admire the ancient and modern architecture; take a great interest in historical canvases exhibited in the art gallery.
It is always pleasant to share our impressions and to show our progress to our friends and guests. Today's exhibition, as a result of the II art plenum dedicated to the Day of the City, gives an opportunity to look at our marvelous places and buildings of our ancient and at the same time young city on the part of our guests.
