Four Lands of Mississauga
From February 22 – April 15, the AGM welcomed Four Lands to the gallery–here is a beautiful video synopsis for your viewing pleasure.
Thanks to all who participated, visited, and shared their Four Lands with us!
Four Lands is a Jumblies travelling arts project, presented and organized at the AGM in partnership with Jumblies Theatre. It explores and expresses people's differing and converging relationships to a shared place. Through drawings, words, miniature models, music, stories, photographs and gentle performance, we create and animate four imaginary landscapes: Goodland (what we like), Badland (what we wish to change), Lostland (what we hold in mind from other times and places), and Dreamland (what we imagine, dream of and wish for).
Four Lands of Mississauga is supported by the Hazel McCallion Fund at the Community Foundation of Mississauga, the Ontario Arts Council, the Government of Ontario, and the Canada Council for the Arts.
ABOUT JUMBLIES
Jumblies Theatre makes art in everyday and unexpected places, with, for and about the people and stories found there. Jumblies undertakes neighborhood residencies, creates and presents new interdisciplinary art works, provides mentorship for artists, projects and organizations, collaborates with partners all around Toronto, Ontario and Canada, sparks lasting community-based offshoots, and strives to integrate community-engaged arts into our cultural mainstream. Major projects and productions to date include Once A Shoreline in Davenport West (2004); Bridge of One Hair in Central Etobicoke (2007); Oy Di Velt Vet Vern Yinger at Camp Naivelt, Brampton and the Mayworks Festival in 2009, a Scarborough telling of Shakespeare’s The Winter’sTale, Like An Old Tale (2011); the cross-country Train of Thought tour (2015); the Touching Ground Festival (2016); and Talking Treaties, led by Jumblies’ Associate Artistic Director, Ange Loft. Since 2014, Jumblies has been operating from The Ground Floor, in the midst of Toronto’s newly developing CityPlace.

GENIUS LOCI | Art Gallery of Mississauga Sept 13 - Nov 4
Genius Loci -- a spirit of place that informs and identifies the history or destiny of a region.
How do contemporary art practices begin to translate the iconic Canadian sense of place?
The Group of Seven, lauded as the centre point of the canon of Canadian art, has largely leaned upon the notion of landscape and seeing the terrain of the north anew. To be Canadian implies a particular relationship to the land and this too has been characterized by otherness with the use of classical stereotypes which cause for a type of estrangement.
Exhibition Curator Stuart Keeler worked with emerging and established artists to explore works from noted collections of Canadian Art -- The McMichael Canadian Art Collection, The Tom Thomson Gallery and The Art Gallery of Mississauga Permanent Collection. The contemporary artist's vision opens conversation and creates questioning and thinking alongside notions of landscape. Natural and urban contexts are explored and presented within a Canadian and international perspective.
Genius Loci is on view at the Art Gallery of Mississauga from Sept 13 - Nov 4, 2012.

McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg Ontario Canada
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is an art gallery in Kleinburg, Ontario, Canada, northwest of Toronto. It houses an extensive collection of paintings by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven and their contemporaries, and First Nations and Inuit artists.
The core of this art collection and the very gallery itself are the result of the dreams and vision of two people. Signe and Robert McMichael were, on first sight, completely captivated by the paintings of the Group of Seven which seemed to embody the same love and respect they had for the Canadian landscape.
