Painted Animation Lane (動漫彩繪巷)
Painted Animation Lane (動漫彩繪巷)
Street art might be a common city sight no matter where you go, but instead of the usual graffiti, Taichung has a little alleyway known as Painted Anime Lane, dedicated to murals of cartoon favourites from our childhoods.
From Looney Tunes to Mr Bean and characters from the the anime Dragon ball and One Piece. all designs are painted with impeccable workmanship. One might even think they were done by the original artists themselves!
This street of Manga Graffiti is apparently painted by the son of the motorcycle shop owner. He used his dad's shop wall to paint all his favorite manga characters. It's a nice lane for the IG crazy. It is quite a distance from the city center though.

Experimental Cantonese Opera “Farewell My Concubine” (New Adaptation)

Mosaic / Mural Art at Terra Incognito In Oak Park Il.
As you are driving west from Austin along Chicago Ave. There's a small strip mall on the north side of the street that is worth stopping at. For along with the requisite 7/11 and fast food places there is also a mural on the side of one of the buildings. A mosaic mural with little bits of this and that. Letters that spell out words of wisdom mixed in with the flotsam and it all makes a whole that is greater than the sum of it's parts.
The mural is a work of Terra Incognito an art gallery on the other side of the wall. And they also have summer camps for kids which is where the mural came from.
Mixed in with the street sounds is the following piece from FreeSoundProject

Artist's Talk [台灣聲音藝術在香港巴塞爾2016-王福瑞] Sound of Taiwan at Art Basel HK 2016 - Wang Fujui

2016. 3.23 (Wed.)

ART BASEL HONG KONG 2015
Project Fulfill Art Space
CHEN Sung-Chih & WANG Fujui duo exhibition
Date:March 24 – 26, 2016
Venue:Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
Artists:CHEN Sung-Chih, WANG Fujui
Booth:Galleries 1C25
Serving the purpose of promoting Taiwan’s contemporary art, Project Fulfill Art Space has embodied the spirit of innovation and unremittingly organized a riotous profusion of fascinating exhibitions. At the exhibition sector “Insights” of Art Basel – Hong Kong in the past two years, we introduced several Taiwanese artists par excellence who are deemed iconic figures in the fields of new media art, sound art, and conceptual art. This year, Project Fulfill Art Space takes a step further to apply for participating in the exhibition sector “Galleries” of Art Basel – Hong Kong 2016. Turning the depth and breadth of our contracted artists’ creative contexts into the strategy for participation, we on the one hand keep promoting renowned Taiwanese sound artist WANG Fujui, and on the other hand extend our reach to different forms of creation by introducing CHEN Sung-Chih, a mixed-media installation artist who treats materials as the kernel of his creation.
The pioneer of Taiwan sound arts WANG Fujui will present one of the most important pieces Sound Dots in the booth. This sound installation delivers the message that addresses the relationship of contemporary life and computing machines. Through the tapping and hammering, our ancestors mimic the sound of the nature and using the rhythm as a way of communication. Now in the information technology era, we use 0 and 1 to deal with and to transmit all the data. Through switching light on and off, we sense the image and receive the message. Base on the size of the space, “Sound Dots” can be easily extended. In Seeing Sound, the artist tries to create various possibilities for images through frequency variation or mixing. Accordingly, it is a visual installation that produces images with inaudible sound.
Guanyinshan (觀音山) & Bali (八里), Wugu, Taiwan, 03/13/2011
Guanyinshan is on the west bank of the Danshui River, with the main mountain chain between Wugu and Bali Districts in New Taipei City. It is a young extinct cone-shaped volcano, part of the Datun mountain group. Its north slope is mainly lava while the south is mainly debris flow deposit. Viewed from Danshui and Guandu areas, the mountain looks like Guanyin Buddha lying on her back, hence the name.
Guanyinshan is the home of many species of raptor and is also visited by many migratory birds of prey.

EP7 Seeing Taiwan: Shangri La Tainan, Anping Tree House/Old St, Fish Noodles, Hop on hop off bus
These are a few of the things we did in Tainan. I'm so gutted because at the end of our stay in Tainan I think I managed to wipe/format my SD card so I lost 2 days worth of clips :(
Of all the towns and cities we visited in Taiwan, Tainan was my favorite. The food, the people, the culture and the hotel were all amazing!
The highlight of our trip was definitely the meal we had at 度小月 Du Hsiao Yueh Restaurant (no.2 below) and the charcoal grilled peanut brittle wrap with coriander (no.7 below).
So whilst they are not all captured on the videos, here is a list of all the places we visited in Tainan:
Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan
701, Taiwan, Tainan City, East District,
(a beautiful 5* hotel I booked for Chris's birthday)
Du Hsiao Yueh Restaurant
No. 101號, Zhongzheng Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(check out the eating Taiwan video)
Garden Night Market
No. 533號, Section 3, Hai'an Road, North District, Tainan City, Taiwan 704
(check out the eating Taiwan video)
Anping Tree House
708, Taiwan, Tainan City, Anping District
(a warehouse which has been reclaimed by nature)
Anping Old Street
Yanping Street, Anping District, Tainan City, Taiwan 708
(an old shopping street selling traditional foods and bits)
Chihkan Tower
No. 212, Section 2, Minzu Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(an old tower build by the Japanese)
Charcoal Grilled Peanut Brittle Roll
No. 200號, Section 2, Yongfu Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(delicious old school Taiwanese snack where the peanut brittle is heated on a charcoal fire then passed through rollers to be flattened then wrapped around fresh coriander; so good eaten warm)
A Jiang Stir-Fried Eel Yi Noodles
No. 89, Section 3, Minzu Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(only 2 things on the menu, wet or dry stir fried smoked eel noodles)
Shennong Street
Shennong Street, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(really pretty old street with a Japanese vibe; aka Osaka of Taiwan)
Fruit Ice Shop
No. 80號, Zhengxing Street, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(frozen fruit smoothie ice blocks served on half a honeydew/cantaloupe melon... bit over hyped)
Soft serve ice cream
No. 92號, Zhengxing Street, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(famous ice cream chain, popular flavours sell out early. I tried the Taiwanese tea soft serve and it had really good flavour)
Tainan Sightseeing Bus
701, Taiwan, Tainan City, East District
(Tickets can be bought from the first stop outside Tainan main train station. We got promo tickets for TW$300 = £7.50 for the full day which are usually TW$500 = £12.50. They offer 3 routes which go to the main tourist spots but live commentary is only in Chinese and the English is using the pre-recorded audio headphones)
Ta-Tung/Dadong Night Market
No. 276號, Section 1, Linsen Road, East District, Tainan City, Taiwan 701
(pretty much the same vendors as the Garden Night Market because they operate on alternate days though still worth it to get your night market food fix)
Fish Noodles
No. 353號, Section 1, Fuqian Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(run by two ladies rushed off their feet; with queues out front. Super cheat eats, really good food. Noodles have a unique chew to them because of the fish meat)
(days 08/11 - 10/11/2018)

National Taiwan Museum Tour (Taipei, Taiwan)
The National Taiwan Museum / 國立台灣博物館, established in 1908, is the oldest museum in Taiwan. It was founded by the colonial government during Taiwan's period of Japanese rule. The museum is located in Zhongzheng District, Taipei.
Established in 1908, the museum is the oldest in Taiwan. The colonial government of Japan set up the Taiwan Governor Museum (臺灣總督府民政部殖產局附屬博物館), which officially opened on October 24, 1908, to commemorate the inauguration of the North-South Railway. The museum had a collection of over 10,000 items in its initial stages. In 1915, the new building of the museum in Taihoku New Park was inaugurated and became one of the major public buildings during Japanese rule.
Under the Nationalist-rule, the Department of Education of the Taiwan Provincial Government took over the administration of the museum in 1949 and renamed it Taiwan Provincial Museum until 1999. The museum underwent two major renovations in 1961 and 1994 respectively. Since 1999, the museum has been administered by the Central Government and renamed National Taiwan Museum. Throughout the years of war and political transition and after twice being renamed, it stands as the only museum established during the colonial years, which is still in operation on its original site.
For more than a century, the museum has been standing in front of the Taipei Main Station, on the north-south and east-west pivotal crossroads of old Taipei. Its elegant architecture, abundant collections and unique geographical position have made the museum an important landmark. In 1998, the Ministry of the Interior declared the museum a National Heritage. The museum has witnessed Taiwan's history and recorded its natural and humanitarian developments. Through this window, one may catch a glimpse of Taiwan's evolution with regard to the fields of earth sciences, humanitarian developments, zoology, and botany.
The museum maintains its original scale, with five departments — anthropology, earth sciences, zoology, botany and education. The collection features specimens of Taiwan's indigenous animals and plants as well as cultural artifacts. Through its regular exhibitions and special exhibitions, publications and various educational programs, the museum is serving the public as an educational establishment.
Open Ending (Xiqu Center)
Xiqu or Not Xiqu?
Xiqu Centre (戲曲中心), the East Gate of West Kowloon Cultural District, is a proposed performance venue, located at the junction of Canton Road and Austin Road West.
However, what is Xiqu?
Actually, Xiqu is the pronunciations of Traditional Chinese Theatre Arts in Putonghua. The implication of using the strange pronouncation Xiqu instead of the translation Chinese Opera is an obvious trends of Mainlandlization of HKSAR Government.
