In this video, I captured shots from the retail village known as Carcross Commons. A perfect example of an artistic wood-work, this area features beautiful totem poles, a carving shed, the Carcross Visitor Information Centre, bakery/coffee shop, wooden benches, a restaurant and art gallery. When you are here, you just don't want to leave.

Kate Carmack: Canadian Mining Hall of Fame Inductee 2019
On January 10th, 2019, Kate Carmack has taken her place with the Klondike Discoverers: Skookum Jim Mason, Dawson Charlie, George Carmack and Robert Henderson - in the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.
The Klondike Discoverers, excluding Kate Carmack, were inducted into the hall of fame in 1999 for the gold discovery that led to the Klondike Gold Rush. Yukon First Nations have believed, for generations, that Kate Carmack was the one who found that first nugget in 1896. As a result, an article written by Eileen Vance-Duchesne in the summer of 1999 highlighted the oversight of the induction.
Twenty years later, Kate Carmack has finally been acknowledged for her contribution to the famous discovery. She is the first Indigenous woman, and third woman to be inducted into the national hall of fame.
“For a lot of us it feels like a past wrong being righted,” said Mike Burke, President of Yukon Chamber of Mines. “It’s probably the most meaningful and significant piece of reconciliation the Yukon Chamber of Mines has been associated with.”
Kate Carmack's nomination was a collaborative effort between Yukon Chamber of Mines, Kwanlin Dün First Nation, and Youth Of Today Society - Celebrating Media Arts Program. The Nomination was supported by Government of Yukon, Larry Bagnell, Council of Yukon First Nations, Carcross/Tagish First Nation, Yukon Women in Mining, Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), and Yukon Prospectors Association.

Edmonton's Indigenous Art Park
The Indigenous Art Park features six artworks by Canadian Indigenous artists. The artists have created artworks that tell the story of this place. They are: iskotew - Amy Malbeuf (Rich Lake, Alberta), pehonan - Tiffany Shaw-Collinge (Edmonton, Alberta), mikikwan - Duane Linklater (Moose Cree First Nation, Ontario), mamohkamatowin (Helping Each Other) - Jerry Whitehead (James Smith First Nation, Saskatchewan), Reign - Mary Anne Barkhouse (Nimpkish Band, Kwakiutl First Nation), and Preparing to Cross the Sacred River - Marianne Nicolson (Dzawada'enuxw Nation).
ᐄᓃᐤ (ÎNÎW) pronounced (EE-NU) is a Cree word meaning I am of the Earth. The art park is situated on ancestral lands of the Indigenous peoples whose descendants entered into Treaty with the British Crown resulting in the territory opening for settlement. River Lot 11 acknowledges the historic river lot originally home to Métis landowner Joseph McDonald. The park is located within Queen Elizabeth Park in Edmonton's North Saskatchewan River Valley.
The Indigenous Art Park is curated by Candice Hopkins (Carcross Tagish First Nation, Gaanax.âdi clan) - noted scholar and artist who has held curatorial positions at IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA), National Gallery of Canada, Walter Philips Gallery, and the Western Front.
