Luxor Museum of ancient Egyptian art.
Luxor Museum
Luxor Museum of Ancient Egyptian art.
Luxor Museum opened in 1975 on the Nile Corniche.
This quality museum of ancient Egyptian arts displays countless interesting items relating to the history of ancient Thebes.
The works on display are all of great importance, mostly dating back to the 18th dynasty. (1550-1292 bc)
The statues found in 1989 in the Temple of Luxor are exhibited in the “cachette” room, these statues are in a perfect condition.
Some of the most interesting pieces are the “wall of the talatat”, from a Temple build by Akhenaton and pieces of Amarna Style art.

The Unique Temple of Karnak Part I Luxor, Egypt
The Ultimate Egyptian Temple has to be Karnak, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the East Bank of Luxor. Once is never enough to stand in the immense and well preserved hypostyle hall with its 134 columns. A person could stand forever, craning necks up to marvel at the exquisite colors still remaining.
Built under the dyanasties of Seti I and Ramses II, 1306-1186 B.C., at least 80,000 people were employed to build and decorate the temple. Another fact is that Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris could FIT into the hypostyle hall!
What a place...
LUXOR TEMPLE & VALLEY OF THE KINGS | Egypt Travel Vlog
We only had one day to explore Luxor, Egypt, so even though we barely slept on the overnight train from Cairo, we went out at 7:00 A.M. to be the first and only tourists at the incredible Luxor Temple! It was totally worth it because it wasn't too hot yet and we took all the videos and photos we wanted with NO other people! Once the first tour bus arrived, we headed back to our hotel and had breakfast (AND COFFEE), but then decided to nap for few hours to wait out the mid day heat before heading to the Valley of the Kings via a $0.10 ferry and $7 taxi. Once again, we felt like there should have been way more tourists than there was, but we weren't complaining!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
Luxor Museum
Luxor Museum is located in the Egyptian city of Luxor (ancient Thebes). It stands on the corniche, overlooking the west bank of the River Nile, in the central part of the city.
Inaugurated in 1975, the museum is housed in a small, purpose-built building. The range of artifacts on display is far more restricted than the country's main collections in the Museum of Antiquities in Cairo; this was, however, deliberate, since the museum prides itself on the quality of the pieces it has, the uncluttered way in which they are displayed, and the clear multilingual labeling used.
Among the most striking items on show are grave goods from the tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62) and a collection of 26 exceptionally well preserved New Kingdom statues that were found buried in a cache in nearby Luxor Temple in 1989. The royal mummies of two pharaohs - Ahmose I and Ramesses I - were also put on display in the Luxor Museum in March 2004, as part of the new extension to the museum, which includes a small visitor centre. A major exhibit is a reconstruction of one of the walls of Akhenaten's temple at Karnak. One of the featured items in the collection is a calcite double statue of the crocodile god Sobek and the 18th Dynasty pharaoh Amenhotep III.

Sekhmet represented the might of the sun at midday, as well as the power of smiting through plague and disease. The statues, all made of Aswan granite, formed part of an avenue of 730 Sekhmets commissioned by king Amenhotep III, ca. 1386-1349 BC. They lined a processional route to a temple arguably to avert a plague striking Egypt.

One of Egypt's best museums, Luxor Museum holds a beautifully exhibited collection from the local area that tells the story of ancient Thebes from the Old Kingdom right up to the Islamic Period. The museum's prize possessions are the two Royal Mummiesof Ahmose I and what is believed to be Ramses I in two rooms on the ground floor, which are worth a visit here alone.
The upper floor has a dazzling display of amulets, silver bowls, grave and tomb furnishings, and votive tablets running across the middle of the floor space. While here, check out the reliefs on the re-erected Wall of Akhenaten. The 283 sandstone blocks are covered with painted reliefs and originally belonged to Akhenaten's Temple of the Sun at Karnak.
