Repicco at Art Museum „Riga Bourse”
Venetian glass exhibition at Riga Bourse art museum
After several years of careful renovation and restoration work, the historical Riga Bourse art museum, originally built in the 19th century and constructed in the Venetian Palazzo style, opened its doors to the public for the first time this past August. The museum's collection includes pieces from the former Museum of Foreign Art, however, a large portion of the new museum's operation will be aimed at hosting various local and foreign art exhibitions.

Riga Castle Home of the Republic of Latvia President .wmv
May 12, 2010
Riga, Latvia
Come join TheCeļotājs journey through time, as we visit the Riga Castle and the home of the Latvia President and a walk around the outside of it. First we see the old stone wall that encloses part of the castle and its outer courtyard and outer garden and faces the Daugava River. Then the living quarters and work area of the president. Then moving to the right and the Daugava side of the castle, we can see in the background the castle steeple. We can also see the original round tower, which is the only part that survived when the Rigans pulled the castle down on 1484. Flying atop the tower is the Latvia and the President's flags. Still moving to the right, we can see more of the castle in its entirety. Walking down Daugavas gate and to the front of the castle we will see the south garden wall and south wall of the castle. Moving on to the front of the castle, we will see the front castle tower, which is not in use, with part of its plaster crumbing off revealing the stones that were used to build the tower. Moving on to the front of the castle we can see it in its entirety. Moving north and to the entrance to the inter courtyard, we can see its main gate and the honor guards on duty with supervisor of guards on duty. We can also see the second floor balcony where the presidents sometimes make speeches from. Moving on, and from Vanšu tilts walkway, we get a look into the castle outer courtyard and garden. Also we can get a better view of the front of the castle and the flags flying across the street from the castle.
History of Riga Castle:
The castle was built in 1330. In 1484 though, it was pulled down by the Rigans who had conquered it from the Livonian Order. In 1491, the Order came back and ordered it to be rebuilt. The construction was completed in 1515. When the order ceased to exist in 1562, the castle became part of the Riga defense system.

Museum of Foreign Art Riga Stock Exchange
The Riga Stock Exchange building was built in 1852 after a design by the notable Saint Petersburg architect and academic Harald Julius van Bosse. In its time, the building, decorated with allegorical sculptures, was Riga's most ornate. Now, after the RE&RE restorers have finished their work, it can be seen in all its original glory. Authors: Janis Senbergs and Kristaps Petersons (Oobelisk, 2011).

STORYLINE
The Staro Riga festival sees Riga's landmarks taking on a dazzling new look.
For five hours each night during the four-day event, the exteriors of buildings such as the Opera House and Art Museum Riga Bourse are illuminated with images - some set to music.
More than 80 buildings, squares, bridges and monuments are being transformed by night.
The festival also includes theatre performances.
We are very happy about how Riga looks... We had this light show before, but today it is so much better, says resident Erika Belousova.
It seems it's not just the residents of the capital that are impressed.
The festival is also drawing in tourists, keen to see Riga in a new light.
There are a lot of foreign visitors. Many of them say they have come for the festival, which is cool. We're giving people maps and also telling them about the nearest and most interesting exhibits. Everyone is happy, says Ieva Ozolniece, a volunteer tourist information adviser in the city.
