365 Things To Do In Orangeville Trailer
365 Things To Do In Orangeville Trailer.
I have been in Dufferin County for 8 years now, and I absolutely love it. I find that it is so unique and offers something for everyone.
As we looked toward the future, a goal of mine was to get out, try new things and see what Dufferin County has to offer that I hadn't yet discovered. I also had some clients ask me for ideas of things to do in the area. So here goes the adventure.
I find myself always going back to my local favorites, and while they are excellent, there is no harm in trying something new.
I'm a realtor here in Orangeville, and clients are always asking for suggestions on what to do around town. So, I thought I would blog about my experiences, recommendations and what you have to do before you can call yourself a true local.
These are all my opinions, and I'm by no means an expert on most things discussed here (well, maybe when it comes to Pizza and Smoothies -- I know a thing or two). I hope you enjoy the journey as I blog for 365 days and discover something about the Dufferin County that is new to you. I'm always open to suggestions as a year's worth of activities is a big list to compile.
Well it's complete now and I have to say one thing. WOW!!!! it's been so much fun, and I've learned so much. As always, it's a great day to be alive in Orangeville, & Dufferin county Ontario

Cheltenham Badlands (Caledon, Ontario)
Badlands is a geologic term for an area of soft rock devoid of vegetation and soil cover that has become molded into a rolling landscape of rounded hills and gullies. Such areas are rare in Ontario and this is one of the best examples. They exhibit the reddish hue of the Queenston Shale that forms them; the iron oxide in the shale produces this colour. The narrow greenish bands that can be seen throughout the shale are due to the change of red iron oxide to green iron oxide brought on by the circulating groundwater. The relatively soft shale is essentially clay and is easily eroded by water.
History
The formation was exposed by poor farming practices in the 1930s that led to soil erosion and exposed the underlying shale.

The Cheltenham Badlands, Caledon, Ontario
A video blog (vlog) about the amazing geological badlands. Gain historical and geographical knowledge about the Cheltenham Badlands.
Quote summary: The land was cleared for farming in the early 1900s. Removal of the natural vegetation along with livestock (animals) overgrazing the land, exposed the shale to the elements. Use of the land for grazing stopped in the early 1930s, but the shale has continued to erode, causing the badlands to increase in size each year. What are the greenish-grey stripes? There are differing opinions about the stripes, but generally, it is said to be a result of chemical alteration.
