Plato's Cave: a 'guided tour and commentary' of some of the paintings, drawings and prints by Cheshire-based artist, Nicholas Ferenczy shown in an exhibition at the Millennium Gallery in Nantwich 2012. 'Plato's Cave' is the title of this little film, rather than of the exhibition ('Thin Skins: Soul-searching in the 21st Century') but the film explains the relevance of the title.
Statement: 'What I'm trying to do with the life drawings is to express both an inner world of thoughts and feelings and an outer one -- the one against which we're all living. Drawing in real time from a living person is crucial. I try to use line expressively -- often as fluidly as I can -- to coax out a sense of movement and passage of time -- like a trace. But I want to take the figure 'out of the studio' -- make it 'relevant' -- and to re present it, such that it does not appear 'naked'. These are not nudes in the tradition of nude art. The figures are stand-ins for all and any of us, regardless of gender.
Sometimes I'll give an image a 'twist' with a bit of text or put the figure in an incongruous 'setting'. Having spent many hours looking round the Victoria & Albert museum, in south Ken., I'm very drawn to decorative art such as the beautiful Islamic designs, and sometimes I'll use a bit of that. But I find it hard to ignore the influence of movies, TV, comics, pop art, and so forth. It's really 'cultural plunder' but very deliberately so, and the images are one-offs, painstakingly made.'

Julie is now based at Higherford Mill, which is under restoration to create more studios for the creative industries.
Julie produces work for exhibition and sale in galleries across the country. 2014 finds her launching a touring show 'King of the Cats - Exploring Lancashire Tales' a major new adventure for Arteach who have been awarded a grant from Arts Council England towards the devlopment of the exhibtiion and an full educational programme. She also exhibits her porcelain work at ceramic shows such as Potfest in the Park, the Contemporary Craft festival in Devon and new for this year RHS Tatton in Cheshire.
As well as making her own artwork Julie works with schools and community groups as an artist helping them realise a project be it a clay mural, mosaic, sculpture, seating, or way markers or alternatively just an experience working with different materials. Please see the Schools and Community projects pages for further information and also details on how to invite Julie to work with your group or school.
Cornelia Parker
Cornelia Parker
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cornelia Parker (born 1956) is an English sculptor and installation artist.
She was born in Cheshire; she studied at Gloucestershire College of Art and Design (1974-75) and Wolverhampton Polytechnic (1975-78). She received her MFA from Reading University in 1982, an honorary doctorate from the University of Wolverhampton in 2000 and the University of Birmingham (2005)..
In 1997, she was shortlisted for the Turner Prize.
She engages in intervention with site-specific work, and is best known for large-scale installations such as Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View (1991), where she had a garden shed blown up by the British Army and suspended the fragments as if suspending the explosion process in time. In the centre was a light which cast the shadows of the wood dramatically on the walls of the room.[1]
The Maybe (1995) at the Serpentine Gallery was a collaboration with actress Tilda Swinton, who lay, apparently asleep, inside a vitrine, while members of the public looked at her.
Another example being the wrapping of Rodin's The Kiss sculpture in Tate Britain with a mile of string (2003). The Stuckist artist, Piers Butler, cut the string, while pre-arranged couples kissed in the vicinity.[2]
She has also been criticised (as has the Tate Gallery) for her use of pieces of J.M.W. Turner's lining canvas for her work.
Avoided Object is the title of a series of smaller works, which have been developed in liaison with various institutions, including The Royal Amouries and Madame Tussauds. An example of this work is Pornographic Drawings (1997), which consists of drawings made from ink which has been manufactured by using solvent to dissolve (pornographic) video tape confiscated by H.M. Customs and Excise.[3]
I resurrect things that have been killed off... My work is all about the potential of materials - even when it looks like they've lost all possibilities.[3]
On 13 February 2008 a new exhibition by Parker opened at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, England, organised in partnership with Friends of the Earth. Parkers latest work is a 40 minute film - Chomskian Abstract, 2007 - presenting her interview with the world-renowned writer and theorist Noam Chomsky. Alongside Chomskian Abstract, 2007, Parkers Poison and Antidote Drawings, 2004 featured black ink containing snake venom and white ink containing anti venom. The format of the drawings reflects the question and answer format of the interview with Chomsky.
Parker lives and works in London. She has had major solo shows at the Serpentine Gallery, London (1998), and Deitch Projects, New York (1998), ICA Boston (2000), the Galeria Civica de Arte Moderne in Turin (2001), the Kunsteverein in Stuttgart (2004) and the Modern Museum at Fort Worth, Texas (2006). She is represented by Frith Street Gallery (London), DAmelio Terras (New York), Guy Bartschi (Geneva), and Galeria Carles Tache (Barcelona). Her work is in private collections worldwide, besides many public collections, including MOMA (New York), the Tate Gallery, the British Council, Henry Moore Foundation, De Young Museum (San Francisco) and the Yale Center for British Art.

Mr Turner and his Queen Anne Street Gallery
The team behind the critically acclaimed Mr Turner film went through extraordinary lengths to ensure the film was as accurate as possible. They consulted Royal Museums Greenwich numerous times on subjects ranging from Maritime history to approaches to science in the early 19th Century.
This video shows the lengths they went through to recreate Turner's Queen's Anne Street Gallery. The film goes on general release on 31 October.
Ian Davenport 伊恩·達文波特 (1966) Contemporary Color Field Painting Minimalism British
tonykwk39@gmail.com
Ian Davenport (born 8 July 1966) is an English abstract painter, and former Turner Prize nominee.
Ian Davenport was born in Sidcup, and studied art at the Northwich College of Art and Design in Cheshire before going to Goldsmiths College from where he graduated in 1988. Some of his classmates included Damien Hirst, Michael Landy, Gary Hume and Sarah Lucas.[4] In the same year, he exhibited in the Damien Hirst-curated Freeze exhibition which first brought together many of the later-to-be Young British Artists. Davenport's first solo show was in 1990 and in the same year he was included in the British Art Show. In 1991, he was nominated for the annual Turner Prize.[5][6]
Many of Davenport's works are made by pouring paint onto a tilted surface and letting gravity spread the paint over the surface. He has usually worked on medium density fibreboard rather than canvas, and most often employs household gloss paint, meaning the viewer can see their own reflection in the work. He has made a number of diptychs and triptychs as well as single works.
For the Days Like These exhibition at Tate Britain in 2003, Davenport made a thirteen-metre high mural by dripping lines of differently coloured paint down the wall from a syringe. In September 2006 he unveiled his largest public commission to date on Southwark Bridge entitled Poured Lines: Southwark.[citation needed] He painted the West End Wall of the University of Oxford Department of Biochemistry.
Stylistic comparisons have been made between Davenport's work and those of Bridget Riley, Helen Frankenthaler and Callum Innes.
The first monograph dedicated to Ian Davenport was published in 2014, launched with a show 'Colourfall' at Waddington Custot Galleries.
Davenport's works have been exhibited globally, first in London in the Swansea Arts Workshop and currently on exhibit at the Art Plural Gallery in Singapore. Davenport lives and works in London.

Creating Carnival Illuminated 2017
Documentary following the journey of 7 artists that created this years Illuminated Carnival events produced by Global Grooves in partnership with Bangdrum CIC.
Creating Carnival Illuminated 2017 was an incredible artists development programme that engaged communities in exciting arts engagement projects, and developed a new movement of participatory arts leadership in Tameside and Oldham.
Thanks to all of the artists, performers, producers, partners, funders and members of our local communities for supporting this very special project.
Sadly in March 2018 our shared studio space was burnt to a crisp in a fire that destroyed all the hard work and incredible puppets that are showcased in this short film. We are currently reaching out to our friends and supporters to help us rebuild this stock so we can continue to deliver exciting and sustainable wintertime events in our local communities.
If you would like to contribute or read more about our story please visit globalgrooves.org/phoenix

Our philosophy is that interior design should be not only function in a utilitarian sense, but should uplift and inspire, nourishing our spirit on a daily basis. By using authentic, traditional techniques combined with distinctive contemporary patterns, we invite you to transform your kitchen or bath into an art installation. Our glazes are formulated using raw materials derived straight from the earth, which result in colors that are as complex and rich as life itself.

ERASED - INTERACTIVE LIVE MUSIC & DANCE PERFORMANCE
Imagine you can visualise live music and manipulate it with your hands. This is what CITYSHAKE has achieved. The project ERASED is an experimental live performance where visuals interact in real-time and simultaneously with music and movement. Digital artists PIERRE BLAISE DIONET and ILMARI HEIKKINEN from CITYSHAKE push here the boundaries of artistic expression by creating a new format that unifies music, dance and visuals on one single canvas. The result is an immersive and interactive installation that places the human at the very center of digital art creation. Bringing together the electro pop music band ULTRAVIOLET and the dancer & choreographer ISABELLE FRANQUES, the semi-improvised choreography results in a totalising force of sound and visuals allowing each artistic expression to concur in an arresting experience.
