Ukraine: its Donbass conflict | VPRO Documentary
In Ukraine, in the region of Donbass there is an ongoing conflict. How did this conflict start and how are people in the Donbass area dealing with this conflict that tears apart families and entire villages? Is Ukraine a divided country where war will destroy regions like the Donbass? A documentary about Ukraine, the conflict in the Donbass region and the people that have to live with it.
For over a year, a dirty battle has been going on in 'the Donbass', an area rich with coal and industry in East Ukraine. More than six thousand people have been killed so far. Jelle talks to the Russian rebels at the front. What kind of people are they? He also visits the Donetsk opera, which has a show every day - war or no war.
In this eight-part travel series the Dutch journalist and author Jelle Brandt Corstius travels through Russia and visits the neighbor countries Latvia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan. What image do the Russians have of their neighbors and vice versa? What are the relations between the powerful Russia and the other former Soviet republics? And how do the countries around Russia treat their Russian inhabitants? A series about propaganda and identity.
On the Maidan, Kiev´s central square, in spring of 2014 the war started. Thousands of people demanded closer relations with Europe. After weeks of protests, the police intervened. One hundred people died. In Ukraine they are known as the Heavenly Hundred. President Yanukovych fled to Russia and the revolution started. And with the revolution came the war that would split the country in two. Dutch Journalist Corstius talks to people on the street and investigates the status quo and the way the population deals with the changes the country has gone through.
He visits the place in Odessa where on May 2 2014 46 pro-Russian activists died from suffocation in a former trade union building. They were under attack from pro-Ukrainian activists and a fire broke out. Until today it is not clear what caused it. This fire made many Russians leave for Ukraine to join the fight so that the war spread from Crimea to the entire eastern region of Ukraine.

Ukraine: Donbass bodybuilders flex muscles at first official tournament
Donbass' Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness held its first official bodybuilding tournament in Donetsk on Saturday.
A total of 37 athletes from the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) competed in different disciplines of bodybuilding and body fitness.
SOT, Aleksei Demchyuk, President of the DPR Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (Russian): This is the first official tournament under the aegis of the federation [of Bodybuilding and Fitness of DPR] and I think not the last one, I'm sure not the last one. As I've said the sportsmen showed quite a high class despite the fact that hostilities do not stop here and the situation is unstable. But we don't lose heart, we will keep on doing our work, will promote sports and develop bodybuilding, and defend the honour of Donbass at international competitions.

A Soviet Ukrainian Horska | For East and West
Alla Horska was an artist, member of the Sixtiers Movement, a dissident, and a friend of poet Vasyl Stus who publicly spoke out against political repressions. She is the author of Soviet-time murals with one of her most famous one being The Victory Flag in Luhansk region's Krasnodon city (currently occupied by Russia-led separatists). In fact, many of Horska's works ended up in occupied Donbas. The artist died in 1970. Horska’s friends and colleagues suspect that the KGB had something to do with her death.
A Soviet Ukrainian Horska is the latest in Hromadske's English-language series part of the joint hromadske and LSE research project For East and West sets out to explore Ukrainians' attitudes to history: in this case, whether the uprising is still commemorated in the region.

Geological Trauma And War: Paul Chaney On Ukraine’s Donbas
British geophilosopher and artist Paul Chaney has spent recent years researching the history and culture of Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region. According to the artist, coal is the key to all the problems of the region. To support this idea, Chaney has created a project called “Donetsk Syndrome Diagrammatic,” which presents in condensed form the concrete relationship between “geological trauma” and the contemporary stalemated war in east Ukraine. Before the war, Chaney was planning to present his work in the Donetsk art centre Izolyatsiya. But once the separatists seized power, they turned it into a labor camp and prison. Chaney, who had lived in Donetsk for several years, was forced to flee.
Paul Chaney spoke with Hromadske about how the history of this eastern region is connected to today's Russian-Ukrainian war and how to bring the Donbas up to its full cultural potential.

VladimirKiri: EASTERN UKRAINE DONBAS TODAY: Luhansk & Donetsk Regions // Sunflowers, Grain Fields.
Hello, my beloved friends!
Selamat!
A lot of my friends from over the world asked me about Ukraine! Finally, I have a chance to introduce you traditional Ukraine, that is, the countryside houses, Ukrainian fields, and 'specific' roads around some parts of EASTERN Ukraine (Luhansk and Donetsk Regions).
Ukraine is an agricultural country, therefore, we have a lot of sunflowers and grain fields. Those fields create a scenery of our national flag - blue and yellow. Blue means the sky and yellow has an image of grain fields.
This video shows not only the tradition of agriculture but also a problem as an underdeveloped road people suffer from nowadays.
If you are interested in knowing about Ukraine more, please, like and comment. I am happy to tell you more about Ukrainian traditions!
As the background, I chose Ukrainian traditional songs!
Have a great day everyone!
