ル・コルビジェやミース・ファン・デル・ローエオなど、巨匠たちのオフィスでデザインを学び、フィンランドを代表するデザイナーの一人でもある、Ilmari Tapiovaara（イルマリ・タピオヴァーラ）によるデザインのDOMUS CHAIR（ドムスチェア）は、1946年にヘルシンキ大学の学生会館、ドムス・アカデミカの為につくられました。

木の素材感を感じる柔かなフォルムが特徴で、座りやすい様に成形加工された座面や邪魔にならないサイズの肘置きなど、細部まで心地良さを追求して誕生しました。また、4脚までのスタッキングにも対応しており機能性も考慮されています。後に製品化されましたが、国内外でも多くのファンを持つ温かさを感じさせてくれる椅子です。ラテン語で「家」を表すドムスチェアは、ダイニングチェアとしてはもちろん、フィンランドでは非常に定番的なチェアとして、レストランやカフェなど商業施設の多くでも実際に使用されています。

Beauty is the harmony of purpose and form Alvar Aalto 1928
From September 14, Jacksons is pleased to exhibit a unique selection of furniture, lamps, and glassworks from the Finnish Architect and Designer Alvar Aalto.
Aalto was a prominent figure in the revival of Organic Architecture, although his work began in the early 1930's with his more natural approach to functionalism, exemplified by his use of laminate bentwood and fluid lines. Known as Human Modernism, Alvar Aalto's dialogue with nature, architecture, design, and the human being has become a living legacy.
The exhibition features many rare and important pieces, such as chairs from the Rautatalo Café in Helsinki produced in the 1950´s, and an early example of the Paimio Chair - which shares the same name of the Sanatorium that was completed in 1932.
Also featured in the exhibition are several original Savoy Vases, which were named after the Savoy Restaurant in Helsinki, for which Aalto and his wife Aino Aalto designed the entire furnishings and light fixtures. The Savoy Vase design won the 1936 competition organized by Finland's glass manufactures - Karhula and Iittala - and was also featured at the Paris World's Fair a year later in 1937. The unique undulating form of the Savoy Vase has acquired a cult status.
In addition, there are two rare Aalto sculptural works, which were produced in the 50's and 70's as gifts for Artek retailers abroad.

Finland Day 1 - Helsinki || 芬兰之旅, 赫尔辛基
Our Finland trip in 2016. Lots of wonderful memories. Hope to be back!
Upon arraival in Finland, we finally met up with our tour guide for the trip. We had a local city guide for a sightseeing tour around the alluring city. Drive past the bustling Market Square and absorb its scents, sounds and atmosphere, then drop by the Senate Square for a unique and cohesive spread of neoclassical architecture, where you can take in the sights of the Helsinki Cathedral, the Government Palace, the National Library of Finland and the main building of the University of Helsinki all in one place. Continue on to the Sibelius Monument, a structure resembling organ pipes that is dedicated to world famous composer Jean Sibelius. We didn't get to see Temppeliaukio Church (Rock Church) as it was closed.
After the city tour we were given free time to roam around the city on our own. We walked to the Christmas Market, walked along Park Esplanadi, had dinner on our own at Brasserie Kamp and finally window shopping along Aleksanterinkatu as well as Stockmann Department Store. This night we stayed at Original Sokos Hotel Helsinki.
