FAREWELL OCÉADE :( Waterpark in Brussels Closed Forever
R.I.P. Océade 1988 - 2018
Océade Brussels was closed for good on 30 September 2018. The waterpark in the city center of Belgium's capital was opened in 1988. It was the third Océade location, with two other parks in Strasbourg and Rouen (France) having opened earlier. In 1992, Océade Brussels was purchased by Walibi group before it was sold to American company Premier Parks. In 1998, the son of Walibi's founder re-purchased the park.
The park featured some cool slides, including Belgium's fastest slide and the two Cannon Balls in the outdoor area. Despite the closing being inevitable, Océade had invested in two new slides not too long ago: Cameleon and Barracuda.
The City of Brussels ruled that Océade and Bruparck will be demolished to make space for a shopping center and residential area. The closure of Océade was initially scheduled for 2017 but could be postponed to late 2018. This decision was final and now all locations of Océade are permanently closed.
It's such a shame that the waterpark is gone - in our opinion, it had the best slides in whole Belgium and the Caribbean theme was a true classic. But there's hope: The slides as well as a lot of the interior of the waterpark were obtained by a Romanian entrepreneur who wants to re-build the slides in a waterpark near Bucharest.
Thanks for 30 years of water fun!

An Aerial View of The Cloth Hall, Ypres, Belgium
The Cloth Hall a medieval commercial building, in Ypres, Belgium. It was one of the largest commercial buildings of the Middle Ages, when it served as the main market and warehouse for the Flemish city's prosperous cloth industry. The original structure, erected mainly in the 13th century and completed 1304, lay in ruins after artillery fire devastated Ypres in World War I. Between 1933 and 1967, the hall was meticulously reconstructed to its prewar condition. The building now houses the In Flanders Fields Museum.
