History of Amber - Rasa Puronaitė, Amber Gallery-Museum, Nida, Lithuania - Unravel Travel TV
Rasa Puronaitė from the Amber Gallery-Museum in Nida, Neringa, Lithuania explains the history of Amber.
Amber Gallery-Museum in Nida is located in an old fisherman's house. The museum tells the story of the history of the Baltic Amber: formation, morphology, colours, and inclusions. Amber of different sizes and shapes. The biggest amber piece weighs 3,820 kilograms. Visitors may touch it and be filled with 50 million years amber energy and feel its warmth. There is also one amber nugget with a particularly strong energy. It is of an ox heart shape and diffuses exclusively intense energy from the sharp edge. The nugget was even used to heal the gallery owner. The museum shows an impressive collection of inclusions. Here you can find various insects and plants in amber. We also have an amber piece with a bird feather and a spider Sosybius Mizgirisi. The latter piece of amber received this name when the researcher J. Wunderlich, who works at the Hamburg University of Geology-Paleontology Museum. Visitors can taste a special drink – Amber Drink and learn how to make the drink at home themselves.
In addition to the antique amber, prominent-Lithuanian artists works are displayed. You can buy jewelry and art works of amber. All items have certificates, guaranteeing that the product is made of natural Baltic amber.
Museum visitors can also visit exposition in the garden and walk along the irst part of the Amber Road which extends from the Baltic Sea to the Etruscan lands in Italy.
At the Amber Gallery-Museum you can learn to work with amber (who wants can try to become an amber master and make themselves a fortune amulet). Visitors can see a collection of inclusions, amulets from Juodkrantė Treasure, and then open a 50 million year-old pine bole to understand how amber was formed inside. They can see how resin was piling up in the tree; dripping from damaged spots or dribbling down the tree bark. A boat previously used to fish amber and some ancient tools are part of the exhibition. The beginning of the Amber Road is marked with an obelisk placed in Curonian Lagoon.
In summer time artists come to the Artists‘ House, which is located near the Amber Gallery-Museum. These is a chance to observe the creative processes and visit the exhibitions.

Russia hopes European sanctions will be lifted

Moscow - 23 December 2015
1. Aleksey Pushkov (right), head of foreign affairs committee in the Russian lower house of lawmakers (State Duma), entering room and sitting down
2. Journalists
3. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Aleksey Pushkov, head of Foreign Affairs Committee in the State Duma:
The US could have refrained from sanctions now, couldn't they? There seems to be cooperation on Syria. Russia seems to be important - Kerry (US Secretary of State, John Kerry) doesn't deny it (saying that) we can't solve this issue without Russia. They could have stayed at the same positions without sending a positive signal in the form of relaxation of sanctions - the sanctions are in effect and they prolonged them. But now they expand them. It means strengthening an aggressive anti-Russian initiative in the American policy. You shouldn't have any illusions about that.
4. Journalists
5. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Aleksey Pushkov, head of Foreign Affairs Committee in the State Duma:
I believe that there are reasons to hope that 2016 will be the last year of the EU (European Union) sanctions against Russia. But I don't want to assert it 100% because despite the fact that rational factors speak in favour of this forecast, there are other factors like the influence of the United States as well as emotional and physiological factors meaning that some of the leading EU countries want to dictate to Russia their point of view on the Ukrainian crisis.
6. Journalists
7. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Aleksey Pushkov, head of Foreign Affairs Committee in the State Duma:
We will return to PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) when there are serious perspectives of our full-scale and equal participation in the work of this organisation. If we come to the conclusion that there are no such perspectives by the beginning of the next year, then the Russian delegation won't take part in the January session.
8. News conference
9. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Aleksey Pushkov, head of Foreign Affairs Committee in the State Duma:
The thing is that the Ukrainian crisis is a regional or even a sub-regional crisis. In reality it doesn't affect the European security interests and the fact that the leaders of the Baltic countries are consistently throwing a fit simply means that they want to take advantage of the Ukrainian crisis - to make themselves important inside NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) and the EU, to show that they are on the forefront of the fight against Russia.
10. Journalists
STORYLINE:
The head of the foreign affairs committee in Russia's lower house of lawmakers (State Duma) said on Wednesday that he hoped 2016 would be the last year Russia was subjected to European Union economic sanctions.
Aleksey Pushkov was speaking to journalists in Moscow at an annual end-of-year briefing.
Russia has been subject to both EU and US financial sanctions put in place over its annexation of Crimea.
In the same news conference, Pushkov accused the US of strengthening an aggressive anti-Russian initiative with its decision to expand its sanctions.

'I design my tattoos because it's my body. I have a specific vision for myself and I do it step by step. Life is so short that I stopped wondering what will happen tomorrow.
'Life is here in now.'
But Mr. Curlykale's quest for complete coverage has not been a cheap one and he has racked up the equivalent of 'a nice flat'.
'Currently I make my own tattoos so I don't have to pay someone else.'
'Places where I cannot reach myself, my best friend helps me out '
'I think I'll manage to cover 99 per cent of my body because I don't want to tattoo every part, but which parts I'll keep as my sweet secret'
Born in Kaliningrad, Russia and raised in Poznan in Poland, Mr Curlykale now lives London. The ink enthusiast has battled major health issues that may have contributed to his live in the moment attitude.
He was just 22 when he was diagnosed with cancer of the large intestine.
After months of radiotherapy, chemotherapy, molecular therapy and stem cell therapy he was left with a very weak immune system.
Although he recovered, his weakened body left him with several skin conditions and partial albinism.
He fell into a deep depression, suffered from eating disorders and even attempted suicide.
'I did not accept myself and others did not accept me.'
'Tattoos allowed me to discover myself again. I became beautiful to myself.'
In September last year he decided to have his eyeballs tattooed and his face completely covered.
He added: 'I'm not neutral for people. You either love me or hate me, admire me or feel like vomiting.
'Now I have stopped noticing people's reactions and reacting to them myself.'
Mr. Curlykale claimed he suffered verbal and physical abuse due to his appearance when he lived in Poland.
People even threw stones and glass bottles thrown at him, he claimed.
'People assumed I was mentally unstable,' added Mr. Curlykale.
'Since I tattooed my face about a year ago, the situation has drastically changed because people started to be afraid of me. '
He said people in Berlin, Stockholm and London have been much more accepting of his appearance.
'The world isn't ready for people like me but I'm coming out to people to show them that we can live differently, we can live better.'
As well as working as tattooist he is also practicing as a psychologist, cosmetologist, artist, barber and singer.
Due to his striking look, Mr. Curlykale also has found success as an alternative model.
'People like me are not represented well in mass media. People are afraid to risk and promote body modifications'
'I am not treated seriously because how can you take seriously a person who looks like this?'
'Sometimes I think my look is my enemy.'
'That's why I invest in myself, in developing my skills as a psychologist, cosmetology, tattoo artist, barber, singer.'
'I don't want to work for anyone. I don't want to have anyone above me, or below me.
'I want to be self sufficient. I value independence and creativity of being yourself.'
'I'll die fulfilled, as a someone who wasn't afraid to take chances, someone who lived regardless of other's opinion but in harmony with himself''

Fictional Little Green Men Seize Lithuanian Town (Excerpt from 'The Russians Are Coming: Lithuania)
Since Russia’s seizure of the Crimean peninsula and the start of conflict in eastern Ukraine in spring 2014, the small Baltic state of Lithuania has been anxiously eyeing Moscow. Some in the capital of Vilnius believe that the country might fall prey to a Ukraine-style military incursion, orchestrated by Russia.
Lithuania, a former Soviet satellite, shares a border with the heavily militarized Russian exclave of Kaliningrad — which houses Russia’s Baltic fleet and has been flooded with arms and personnel in the last year. From Kaliningrad, Russia has staged military drills that reportedly involve thousands of soldiers, hundreds of military vehicles, and dozens of warships. In response, Lithuanian forces are also mobilizing.
In May, VICE News followed the Lithuanian army during Operation Lightning Strike — a four-day wargames exercise. The drill marked the first nation-wide test of Lithuania’s new 2,500-strong “Rapid Reaction Force,” set up in the wake of the Ukraine crisis to deal with hybrid warfare threats, such as armed protests, airfield and weapons stockpile seizures, and the sudden appearance of “little green men” who seem to take orders from far away.
In this excerpt, VICE News travels to Kaisiadorys, Lithuania, where separatist insurgents backed by the fictional country of Udija have seized a government building — all as part of a country-wide military exercise.
