Murano Glass Chandelier Blowing In The Artisan Workshop in Venice, Italy
Making chandeliers is one of the oldest Murano Glass specialties, and one that propelled Murano Glass industry to worldwide fame in the 17th century. Having discovered a secret to making glass of exceptional translucency and clarity, and combining this knowledge with their skills honed by centuries of work in family workshops, Murano artisans started crafting chandeliers of incredible beauty and elegance. Venetian Chandeliers became the most coveted piece of interior design, sought after by the rich merchants, nobility, and royalty throughout Europe and beyond. Many wealthy Venetian residents took up the trend and started hanging these new chandeliers with multi-tier designs and lots of floral decorative elements in their grand ballrooms, palazzo entrances, and other imposing spaces. The Murano Glass masters were striving to outdo each other in elaborateness of designs and richness of decor, creating fertile ground for the evolution of craftsmanship and design of Murano chandeliers.
Even though times have changed and fashions evolved, Murano Glass chandeliers remains an indisputable statement of impeccable taste and still represents the very best in interior design and lighting. People continue to admire these functional works of art, and some of the most extraordinary and luxurious residences, hotels, and retail spaces in the world today boast fine handcrafted Murano Glass Chandeliers, Sconces, Floor Lamps, and other Venetian lighting pieces. This is not just a testament to the tradition that dates back over 300 years, but an evidence that Murano Glass artistic tradition is alive and well and knows no equals.
Murano Glass Beautiful Art, Venice, Italy
View World famous Murano glass artwork and how it is done here.
Murano is famous for its glass making. Murano glass is still associated with Venetian glass. The process of making Murano glass is rather complex. The glass is made from silica, which becomes liquid at high temperatures.
As the glass passes from a liquid to a solid state, there is an interval when the glass is soft before it hardens completely. This is when the glass-master can shape the material.

Murano Glass Millefiori Tumbler Making in Venice Italy
For over a thousand years the artisans in Venice have been at the forefront of learning about glass and improving their glass-making methods in order to craft glassware of superb style, quality, and color. Having made many advances in the glass-making craft, the Venetian glass artisans were moved by the government of Venice to Murano Island in 1291, where they lived in relative isolation from the rest of the world and were awarded status symbols and power concessions thanks to the prominent role of their craft in the economy of the Venetian Republic.
From inventing transparent glass used in window panes, to coming up with novel light and airy glass chandelier designs, to reviving multiple ancient glassmaking techniques such as Millefiori, and gold- and silver-leaf, Murano Glass masters made significant advances in interior design for centuries.
In keeping with this tradition of excellent glassware for the home, Murano Glass masters of today craft multiple tableware and serving pieces, including wine glasses, drinking glasses, tumblers, pitchers, plates and dishes, cups and saucers, cake servers, cake knives, and more.
This video shows the process of making a Murano Glass tumbler, which has not changed for centuries. It is filmed in a glass-blowing workshop on Murano island in Venice, Italy, owned by a prominent glass-making family. This family, where the master artisans have been making glassware for generations, is known for their mastery of Millefiori technique, and their excellence in fine craftsmanship. Their Murano Millefiori glassware created according to the traditional methods and techniques graces the homes of the rich and famous around the world and is displayed in many international art galleries and museums.
However, one does not have to be a modern-day prince or magnate to own a beautiful Millefiori glass piece crafted with passion and love by Murano maestros. You, too, can purchase this tumbler, or a set of them, or many other Murano Glass beauties at where we tirelessly work to bring you the work of the best and the most talented Murano Glass artists and artisans and curate our collection daily to help you own an authentic piece of Venetian history and artistic heritage.

Venetian Glass Factory Tour
Venetian glass has been made at the B.F. Signoretti glass factory in Murano, Italy since 1346. It is made from Silica Sand which is quartz that over time, through the work of water and wind, has been broken down into tiny granules.
It's an art & business with deep family and artisanal roots. Once the glass is expertly molded, if it cools down too quickly, it will break, so they have to use cooling ovens.
We weren't allowed to videotape inside the gallery, but we were able to capture how the glass is made in this video.

Venice Island of Murano and Glass Making Glass Blowing Demonstration
Please join me on this visit to the island of Murano, famous for glass making. Murano is a short hop from Venice, only about 15 minutes by boat. We booked a tour through Viator; the tour guide explained much of the history and the geography of both Venice and Murano on the way. Once we got to Murano we were treated to a glass making demonstration by a master glassmaker. After the demonstration we toured the gallery, then we were off to the island of Burano (my next video)! Thank you for watching!
Murano Glass Street Art | The Venice Glass Week 2019

Murano Italian art glass ( demo ).mp4
The history of Italian art glass dates back at least to the time of the Roman Empire. The Romans imported glass blowing techniques from Syria, and the art of manipulating glass quickly caught the fancies of the Roman aristocrats of the time. Upon the collapse of the Roman Empire, however, the art form was lost for centuries. In the ninth century, Italian artisans on the island of Torcello revived glass making. For hundreds of years, Venice, Italy was the center of glass production in the Western world. However, a powerful city ordinance was passed in 1292 relegating glassmakers to the tiny Venetian island of Murano. This small island, located in a forbidding lagoon, led to the near total isolation of Italian glassmakers. These tradesmen developed a cult of secrecy about their work.Artisans caught giving away trade secrets to outsiders were actually killed. Murano dominated the European glass tradition completely. At one time, almost all of Europe's mirrors were made in Murano. Pure glasses, such as cristallo and lattimo, captured the imagination of the continent and brought in lots of money for the fledgling Italian government.During the 18th century, however, Murano glass suddenly started falling out of favor with the aristocratic class. As English leaded glass became the rage, Italian art glass artisans struggled. In the 1800s, a man named Antonio Salviati helped save the Murano movement from obsolescence. Today, collectors and traders around the world praise Italian art glass for its clean lines, bright colors, and durability.

Scarpa created a unique and multifaceted body of work in architecture and design. In 1932, while in his mid-twenties, he was hired by Paolo Venini, founder of Venini Glassworks, to be an artistic consultant to the company. Until 1947, he worked closely with Venini master glass blowers and Mr. Venini himself to create more than two dozen styles, in the process pioneering techniques, silhouettes, and colors that thoroughly modernized the ancient tradition of glass blowing.
The exhibition presents the results of this unique collaboration, featuring nearly 300 carefully selected works that highlight Scarpa's significant contribution to the art of Venetian glass.
