Arts on Main, Johannesburg✔
Everything you want to know about South Africa you will find in this channel!
Market On Main is a weekly up-market market that trades in regional foods and local design.
Market on Main takes place every Sunday at Arts on Main in Maboneng, downtown Johannesburg from 10am - 3pm.
Launched in January 2011, Market on Main has established itself as Johannesburg’s leading urban food and design market.
Market on Main was started by design entrepreneurs Jacques van der Watt of fashion label Black Coffee and Bradley Kirshenbaum of Love Jozi - with the vision to give top food and design entrepreneurs a beautiful space to trade weekly. Our goal is to encourage inner city lifestyle, and provide a relaxed and creative space for makers to trade, and for locals and visitors to spend their weekend leisure time.

Circa Gallery Visit, Johannesburg✔
Everything you want to know about South Africa you will find in this channel!
The Circa Gallery was built in Rosebank in 2009 alongside the Everard Read gallery, Johannesburg’s oldest private art gallery. An architectural landmark, the building has received awards for its striking design and its green credentials, with solar panels and rainwater tanks making it one of the most self-sufficient buildings in the area.
It was designed by architect Pierre Swanepoel of studioMAS, who was tasked with creating a space for the gallery that would attract the attention of passers-by and encourage more public engagement with the arts.
The elliptical structure makes the most of the relatively narrow plot of land that it occupies and an impressive façade of 400 10m-tall aluminium fins is its most distinctive feature. Swanepoel's fins were inspired by the natural world – some liken them to the reeds used for fences in traditional Zulu kraals while others compare them to the bark of a tree.
During the day this extraordinary façade casts shadows across the ramp that spirals around the building leading visitors up to the top of the gallery and at night it is lit with a dazzling display of colours.
The gallery describes itself as relatively small in size [and] lofty and ambitious in its intentions and regularly stages contemporary art and sculpture exhibitions by leading South African artists such as Deborah Bell, Wayne Barker and Nelson Makamo.
Mykki Blanco Celebrates Johannesburg's Born-Free Queer Artists and Activists - Full Film
I was in Africa for the first time, says Mykki Blanco. I am 31 years old, African American, and there I was... on the continent in which civilisation as we know it was born, the land which birthed my race, for the very first time.
Out Of This World, a new i-D documentary series, journeys with American rapper and activist Mykki Blanco as he explores queer culture in Johannesburg. Captured intimately in an experimental hybrid-documentary by director Matt Lambert, Mykki meets boundary pushing artists Umilio and FAKA, designer Rich Mnisi and Bradley and Nkulsey, a model and dancer of the 'Born Free' generation - all using their platforms to give a voice to issues surrounding the politics of their sexuality, gender, identity and humanity. As we make our way through the creative epicentre that is South Africa's biggest city, join us in celebrating the thriving alternative queer scene.
