'150' trailer
'150' celebrates the craftsmanship involved in restoring Great Britain's oldest working water-balanced cliff lift in readiness for Saltburn's 150th anniversary as a Victorian seaside town in 2011. The 8 mins 30 seconds observational documentary captures the behind the scenes work of Stanegate Restorations at Haltwhistle in Northumberland which are intercut with snowy beach scenes of Saltburn during the long winter of 2010.
Built in 1884 the cliff lifts carry over 120,000 passengers a year to the last remaining pleasure pier in the North-East of England.
Find out more about the making of the film and it's companion piece '55 Seconds', which captures a day in the life of the lift from the passengers point of view, by visiting our blog and photo gallery at and
A DVD of the films is also available at ArtsBank Gallery, Saltburn

BOOLESH1T
BOOLESH1T is the first solo exhibition of Atlanta-based artist and photographer Nikita Gale.
The show is an exploration of the evolution of the relationship between humanity and technology. The work presented in this exhibition seeks to explore the inherently fleeting nature of being human and how human beings cope both physically and psychologically with the rapidly expanding influence and permanence of digital technology within modern human civilization. It's an exploration of how the human mind negotiates the massive proliferation of information in a visually-driven, post-literate age.
The name for the show BOOLESH1T was inspired by George Boole, creator of Boolean arithmetic. Boolean arithmetic is a mathematical system which precipitated the development of Boolean logic, a system used in electronics that spawned the creation of virtually every digital device and website on the Internet. The Internet has gone from being a source of information and social interaction to becoming a source of, well, a lot of superfluous... SH1T.
BOOLESH1T is ultimately a visual investigation that seeks to answer questions like How can we as human beings continue to lead meaningful, fulfilling existences in a world that is inevitably hurtling toward complete digital automation?
How has this overflow of information provided by the Internet affected the ways that we think and interact with others?
Are we becoming less compassionate?
Are we growing less aware of our physical selves and our surroundings?
The gallery space will be transformed into an interactive physical and visual manifestation of the artist's interpretation of the Internet. The show will feature traditional photographic prints as well as photo-based installations and mixed media works.

META 2014: Connor Crawford
Connor Crawford's project entitled Importing Auras will be showcased at META 2014. It is a video installation and documentation of his actual project that will be at META 2014.
META 2014 is an annual student-run New Media exhibition featuring artworks created by Ryerson University's New Media program graduates. It will include over a dozen art projects including: video installations, interactive sound installations, immersive environments and robotic structures. The emerging artists behind these projects seek to redefine and innovate art through their use of technology. This year, META 2014 will take place on the 6th floor of The Burroughes Building, located in the heart of Toronto's Art and Design District from March 20th-22nd.

MARC JANCOU - Marnie Weber
Marc Jancou Contemporary is pleased to present The Night of Forevermore,
an exhibition of new work by Marnie Weber. The artist's second solo show
with the gallery, the exhibition opens on September 13th and will be on view
through November 3rd.
The Night of Forevermore takes its title from Weber's new film of the same
name, which will be shown for the first time during this exhibition. In a
fantastical world that exists somewhere between a Hieronymus Bosch
painting and a contemporary Halloween horror movie, the film's
protagonist, a young white witch, embarks on a journey to escape the forces
of darkness and regain her own powers of good. The film explores the
relationship between this young witch—played by the artist's daughter,
Colette Rose Shaw—and an old witch who has sold her soul to the devil—
played by the artist herself— as they traverse through haunting tableaux
vivants representative of heaven, purgatory, and hell. Weber's medieval
costumery and cast of period characters underline her interest in the history
of witches and witch hunts, speaking to her overarching interest in the social
and political forces that have traditionally shaped representations of good
and evil.
Accompanying the film is a new series of collaged paintings that incorporate
figures and visual motifs from the film. As in much of Weber's work, their
imagery hybridizes human figures with the flora and fauna of the natural
world: the suspended body of a young girl dons the face of an owl, while
another blooms forth from a bouquet of blood red roses. Although the artist
typically works in photo-based collage, this new series pairs photographic
elements with painted imagery whose rich palette and dripping surfaces add
a new, romantic lushness to the works. As in the film, the paintings convey
an unsettling tension between the exquisite appeal of their young female
subjects and the menacing darkness that appears about to overtake them, as
embodied in leering monsters' faces, crumbling tombstones and stormy
landscapes.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1959, Marnie Weber lives and works in Los
Angeles. Recent solo exhibitions include Marnie Weber, Forever Free, the
Cinema show, a retrospective at Le Magasin Centre National d'Art
Contemporain, Grenoble (2010) and The Autumn Bear at the Palais de
Tokyo, Paris (2011). Her installation The Whispering Cave will be on view this
fall at Lille3000 as part of its Fantastic 2012 festival in Lille, France. Weber's
work is represented in the permanent collections of the Museum of
Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The Color of Blind 2013
The innovative The Color of Blind exhibit, which aims to help the visually-impaired experience art in a show catered to them, will be moving this year to the Mercury Project (538 Roosevelt Ave SA, TX 78210) and is expected to make an even larger impact on the San Antonio community to celebrate Contemporary Art Month. The show will be two days this year March 29th from 6-10pm and March 30th from 11-7, with a third day added for private showings to the special needs education community. The show, which debuted last year, is believed to have never before been attempted in Texas as a way to help the special needs community better connect with art they may not be able to otherwise. Last year, the Color of Blind held its inaugural show and had over 400 visitors.
The Color of Blind is an art show conceived by Trina Bacon, a local art teacher, ceramist, tactile and 3-D artist. It is the hope for Bacon to share her vision of art and education with the blind and sight-seeing communities.
People who are blind or have low--vision can use other senses to feel art and even feel, touch and smell color, this will give them a direction to color. Everyone deserves to experience art, Bacon said. It can change your life.
Artists participating were challenged to think outside what the eye can see by taking into consideration what can also be seen without sight. Whether blind or not, the art works to be shown will entice other senses such as smell, touch, and taste for a perception unlike any other show. The show will again feature cutting edge software developed by Baoxin Li Associate Professor from Arizona State University. The software is used to render a basic facial photograph into a tactile photo the blind can feel to see. This technology is years away from being commercially available, and this upcoming show would be only the third time it has been made for the public to experience anywhere throughout the country.
