The whole is an 11-minute loop and for YouTube is condensed into two parts.
The Mackay Creative Connections Project
In partnership with Rio Tinto Hail Creek, The Song Room worked with Mackay Central State School, Fitzgerald State School and Victoria Park State Schools to deliver The Mackay Creative Connections Project in semester 1, 2013. Through the use of creative arts activities, this project aimed to provide parents and the local community with multiple opportunities to connect back to the schools and to further enhance and support school engagement.
As a result of this project, students, teachers and parents from these schools and the Mackay Special School along with members of a diverse range of local community groups were invited to participate in the 'My Story' postcard project.
All postcards have been included in a postcard exhibition that will be launched at Mackays Artspace Gallery on Sunday the 11th of August. The exhibition collectively tells the beautiful story of the Mackay communities' diverse and multicultural background.
This short film follows the process behind making the postcards that are displayed in the 'My Story' Exhibition. Mackay based production company, CrossRoad Arts, spent time filming students, teachers and parents at Fitzgerald, Mackay Central and Victoria Park State Schools to further illustrate the objectives behind the project.
