Samayapuram Mariamman Temple * Tiruchirappalli Chennai NH 45.
Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is situated on Tiruchirappalli Chennai NH 45, just 20 kms north of Tiruchirappalli town. The Maariamman Temple here, is one of the well visited shrines in Tamilnadu, dedicated to Maariamman, a manifestation of the primeval energy Shakti as the mother Goddess all sundays, tuesdays and fridays hundreds of devotees throng the temple and perform Poojas. The offerings are in various forms. The most common offering is the Mavilakku Mavu made of jagery, riceflour, dhal and ghee. Mariamman is a form of Shakti worshipped in Tamilnadu, and is associated with prosperity and health. Local beliefs associate this deity with cures for diseases such as small pox and chicken pox.
Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is a Hindu temple in Samayapuram near Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. The main deity, Samayapurathal or Mariamman is made of sand and clay like many of the traditional Mariamman deities, and hence unlike many other Hindu deities there are no abhishekams (sacred washing) conducted to the main deity, but instead the abishekam is done to the small stone statue in front of it.
Mother of all Mothers --- The Goddess Shiva Sakti ---Samayapurathal is so Powerful to fulfill the Prarthanas of Devotees. In very few temples, you can see the presiding deity from the entrance of the temple. Yes, Samayapurathu Mariyamman is visible from the Main Entrance of the Temple and it will look like that the mother is waiting for your arrival.
Legend has it that Shiva created Kali, out of the poison that he had swallowed, and decreed that he kill Daarukaasuran. Having originated from the Kaalakoota poison, she assumed the name Kaali. Mariamman is believed to be a form of Kaali, and is also known as Mahamaayi or Seethala Gowri.Dasaratha, father of Rama is said to have worshipped here. It is believed that the processional image of Mariamman was in the possession of the Vijayanagar monarchs and that as their empire neared destruction, this image was brought down to Tamilnadu in an ivory palanquin. It is believed that the palanquin bearers placed image on the ground and paused for rest, and then found themselves to be unable to lift it off the ground. A temple was then established in the vicinity of Tiruchirappalli, which was later expanded by Vijayaranga Chokkanatha Nayak of Madurai of the 18th century. Samayapuram was the local capital of Vijayanagar rulers and was known as Vikramapuram.
This temple has separate shrines for the processional image of Mariamman and the moolavar in the sanctum. There is also a shrine to Karuppannasaami a local deity.
Annual festivals are celebrated during Thai Poosam, and in the tamil months of Pankuni and Chittirai. The last Sunday of Pankuni marks the commencement of the festival, while the chariot festival is celebrated on the first Tuesday in the month of Chittirai, and the float festival is celebrated a week later.

Thiru Anbil ~ Near Lalgudi /Trichy *
Thiru Anbil.
This is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu, which is situated near Lalgudi at Trichy district of Tamil Nadu.On those days, these regions were under the reigns of Chola kingdom. The puranic history of this isthala, has been described in one of the 18 Puranas, called as Skantha purana. Once, the creator god,Lord Brahmah had been decapitated by Lord Bairavar, who has been one of the 64 manifestations of lord Shiva.By having done this, lord Shiva had been caught by 'Brahmah ghathi thosam' which had occured due to the killing or the harassment given to a Brahmin.
In order to redeem from the Brahmah ghathi thosam, Lord Shiva had been advised to come into the isthalas of Karambanur, Anbil and atlast been advised to reach Kandiyur, to worship lord vishnu.Again, as lord Brahmah had worshiped here, this isthala had been called as Brahmah puri. One more feature about this isthala had been that a sage called as 'Manduga maharishi' had got his curse retrival, which had been occured to him by the sag Durvasar, and hence, this had been called as 'Manduga puri'. This same legend also reflects in the legend of Alagar koil, where the sage Manduga Maharishi had been curse redeemed by lord Sundaraja Perumal of both Anbil and Alagar koil, as He has been the processional deity, in both of the temple.
This temple has been done mangala sasanam by one of the 12 Aalwars, namely asThiru Mazhisai Alwar. He has mentioned this place 'Anbil', in the 36th pasuram in the book work of 'Naan mugan Thiruvanthathi'.He had mentioned that lord Vishnu has been in the, posture of Sayanam, that is, in Tamil 'Kidantha kolam'.Lord Vishnu has been in the posture of sayanam, that is, half sleep, in the following places of Kudanthai,Thiru vekah, Evvul, Sri Rangam and Anbil, and he also praised Him, as in the name of Athi Nedumal.
The presiding deity has been called as Lord Vadivazhagiya Nambi, who has seen in the posture of sayanam, that is in half sleep. He faces east in direction. The processional deity has been in the name of lord Sundaraja perumal. Goddess has been in the name of Sri Azhagiya valli. The vimana, the temple tower is Tharagha vimanam.Theerthas have been in the name of Manduga theertham, which is situated inside the temple premises and the another one has been the river Cauvery at kollidam.
