MY DAY TRIP TO UJI
Check out my day trip to Uji, Japan! I explored a part of Japan's oldest history and got to try the most authentic matcha ice cream in the area!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HISTORY
Byodo-in Temple is a Buddhist temple that was originally built in 1052 (crazy, right?!). Since then, the temple and surrounding area/buildings have been renovated/preserved until today. (When I visited, Phoenix Hall was under renovation so I couldn't enter :/ But I will definitely come back when it's done :) )
More info:
Uji is most famously known as the home of matcha because of its popularity for fruitful matcha plantations in the early 13th century. Uji quickly became the best geographical area to harvest matcha in Japan and was therefore known as the best tea-growing region in Japan history. (Lucky for me, I'm only a ~20 min train ride away hehe ^___^ )

NOTE
I'm dumb and tried to upload a video with a copyrighted song over it... so it got re-edited with a random free YouTube song so I apologize for the poor sound quality omg. And I guess when they were re-editing, it messed up some of the camera work so there are random glitches (PLZ TRY TO IGNORE THEM) and some sound mismatch at the end...... T___T Anyway, I hope you still enjoy the video LOL

Why it's Called Karigane Green Tea
Try it for yourself here:
In this video, we share the legendary story of how the tea Karigane got its name. This is a very prized stem tea in Japan. Unlike most stem teas, the Kukicha is typically shaded prior to the harvest so it tastes like a mix of Gyokuro and Kukicha.
The story behind Matcha Yu Tea - blending a love of Japan and tea
Hello, I'm Erin and this is my story of how I fell in love with Japan (and Matcha).
Almost 10 years ago, I made a decision that would change my life forever.
I decided to pack my bags, hop on a plane and experience daily life in Kyoto, a magical ancient city of Japan.
Japan was a place I had been fascinated by ever since 13 year old me took my first Japanese class at high school. Since then I had travelled to Japan for holidays but something deep down was telling me to take a leap of faith and experience living there once and for all.
While living in Kyoto I spent my time soaking up as much of the beautiful culture as possible. My days were filled with visiting temples and gardens, trying delicious Japanese cuisine, relaxing in hot springs, speaking Japanese with the locals and of course experiencing Matcha Green Tea.
Matcha has been drunk in Japan for centuries and is widely enjoyed for its taste and health benefits. It also is the tea used in Tea Ceremony so it has special significance in Japanese culture.
The ritual of preparing and serving Japanese Green Tea to enjoy is a refreshing break from the fast past of everyday life.
Making time to slow down and drink tea is one of life’s simple pleasures.
Drinking my daily cup of Matcha instantly transports me to a time and place that will forever have a piece of my heart.
It is my absolute joy and privilege to offer this authentic taste of Japan to you.
