Deco Japan: Shaping Art and Culture, 1920-1945
Showcasing the spectacular craftsmanship and sophisticated design associated with both Japan and Art Deco style, this exhibition is the first in the U.S. to explore a little-known brand of pre-WWII modernism borne of competitive ingenuity and vivacious cosmopolitanism. Curated by Dr. Kendall Brown, Deco Japan: Shaping Art and Culture, 1920-1945 subtly conveys the complex social and cultural tensions in Japan during the Taisho and early Showa periods through dramatically designed examples of metalwork, ceramics, lacquer, glass, furniture, jewelry, sculpture and evocative ephemera such as sheet music, posters, postcards, prints and photography. The vitality of the era is further expressed through the theme of the moga (modern girl)--an emblem of contemporary urban chic that flowered briefly, along with the Art Deco style, in the 1920s and '30s.

Tokyo Museum | Japen Gallery 2017
The Tokyo National Museum (??????? Tokyo Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan?), or TNM, established in 1872, is the oldest Japanese national museum,[2] the largest art museum in Japan and one of the largest art museums in the world. The museum collects, houses, and preserves a comprehensive collection of art works and archaeological objects of Asia, focusing on Japan. The museum holds over 110,000 objects, which includes 87 Japanese National Treasure holdings and 610 Important Cultural Property holdings (as of July 2005). The museum also conducts research and organizes educational events related to its collection.
The museum is located inside Ueno Park in Taito, Tokyo. The facilities consist of the Honkan (???, Japanese Gallery), Toyokan (????, Asian Gallery), Hyokeikan (????), Heiseikan (????), Horyu-ji Homotsukan (???????, the Gallery of Horyu-ji Treasures), as well as Shiryokan (????, the Research and Information Center), and other facilities. There are restaurants and shops within the museum's premises, as well as outdoor exhibitions and a garden where visitors can enjoy seasonal views.
The museum's collections focus on ancient Japanese art and Asian art along the Silk Road. There is also a large collection of Greco-Buddhist art.

Traditional Japanese House -Former Takahashi Family Residence-[The main house1]
The Former Takahashi Family Residence is located 25 minutes away on foot from Asaka station in Asaka City,Saitama. This house was built in the first half of the 18th century in Edo period. Not only the main house, but also the surrounding properties, such as gardens and woods,are designated as important cultural properties. You can feel the traces of the long lasting Musashino culture.

葛西駅は東京都江戸川区にあり、東京メトロ東西線が乗り入れています。隣の駅は葛西駅と浦安駅です。駅前にある「地下鉄博物館」が人気です。
住宅地が広がる落ち着いた街です。

In January 2020, I walked around Kasai Station during the daytime on weekdays.
Kasai Station is located in Edogawa-ku, Tokyo, and is served by the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line. The next stations are Kasai Station and Urayasu Station. The Subway Museum in front of the station is popular.
It is a calm city with residential areas.

JAPAN: OSAKA things to do - Shopping in Shinsaibashi & Dotonbori | Vlog 1
Trip to Japan | Osaka (or 大阪市) is so full of things to do! We spend the day shopping in Osaka. Japanese also love it! In Minami, we start at Orange Street (Horie), then visit America Mura, Shinsaibashi-Suji, Dotonbori (where you see the famous Glico man), Ebisubashi-Suji and Namba Walk. We return to Dotonbori to enjoy Osaka at night and try delicious street food. My favorite? Takoyaki, by far! ????

OFIS city museum - Home And Design TV
The project involves the renovation and extending of the Auersperg Palace, which is located in the heart of the protected historical city centre. The palace and the plot have a very rich history dating from the prehistoric period to Roman and medieval times. Each era added something to the building.
During the course of history the purpose of the palace changed several times, such that the existing organization of the floor plan was not suitable for hosting a museum programme. The spaces were labyrinthine and disconnected.
The competition entry suggested a spiral itinerary for the visitor through the exhibition spaces and proposed an added element to connect the wings of the palace.
The first spiral. The walk starts underground at -3 m, where the ground level of Ljubljana was situated in prehistory. Since the city's ground level rose over the years the walkway ascends through the era of Rome, represented by an original Roman road, then medieval and baroque Ljubljana, where the museum bar is located, before returning to the ground-floor lobby. The archaeology is preserved in situ -- no stone has been relocated.
The courtyard floor bifurcates and rises parallel to this path and the location of the Roman road; it forms a roof above the stepped archaeology.
The second spiral functions as a roof over the archaeology from level -3 m to level zero, rising above the courtyard and becoming a level balcony, thus affording different views of the courtyard and the palace.
The third spiral continues inside the palace on level +4 m as a balcony overlooking the main hall. Ascending up the old staircase, the spiral becomes a suspended ceiling (at +7.5 m), containing the whole service infrastructure: climate control, diffuse lighting, the sound and fire protection system. The suspended spiral continues through the rooms, taking the visitor through the exhibition.
The same situation is repeated on the next floor (at +12.5 m).
The existing palace was renovated using necessary, minimal elements like frameless windows and doors and neutral materials. The exhibition spaces are preserved at their original size, as per the conservation programme. Furniture in the palace is integrated within the existing walls. The oak used is local oak, and the colours of the glazed surfaces arise from those used by archaeologists to define different historical eras.
At the time of the competition it was thought that there would more archaeological remains on the site but it was not known where these might be and what importance they would have. This part of the project had to be flexible and adaptable, therefore. The proposed solution was an open-plan basement with an adaptable structural system. The structural plans were drawn as a 3D-computer module that was adapted in relation to the suggestions of the archaeologists.

How to open up our solid towers? PoroCity at Mori Art Museum
The Why Factory exhibits 81 porous towers at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo. @moriartmuseum as part of the exhibition Future and the Arts: AI, Robotics, Cities, Life - How Humanity Will Live Tomorrow.
The towers were built during a five-day workshop organized in collaboration between The Why Factory, TUDelft and Chiba Institute of Technology @chibakoudai Students proposed a method to prove that urban porosity is socially, environmentally and economically valuable. By looking at how to measure urban porosity, this method aims to promote the capacity of the three-dimensional pixel (the so-called ‘voxel’) for both measuring and evaluating the relative porosity of any built form as well as for negotiating design.
Our current cities are comprised of enclosed, distant and introverted architecture equally isolated from urban life and ecological context.
How might we open these spaces? How might we introduce pockets of space capable of triggering social encounters, multiplying circulation and facilitating the introduction of flora and fauna?
This installation gathers the research conducted by The Why Factory on urban porosity. Using both analogue and digital approaches, researchers and students explored ways to open up our cities.
What can we image in order to to open towers or entire city blocks?: stepped floors? Public stairways? Grottos for residents to meet?...
Can we manipulate building envelopes in order to increase the façade area? Can we perforate built volumes and create pocket parks?
Each of our hypotheses led to a series of step-by-step interventions that materialized in the form of a vast collection of towers built by our students using LEGO blocks. When gathered together, the resulting “army” of LEGO towers shows how far we can—and cannot—go. How much can a tower bend before it collapses? At what point does a porous tower become financially impossible to build or maintain?
PoroCity shows the way to the construction of a more open city and society. Why wait to build it? Welcome to the open city! Welcome to PoroCity!
